I'm just learning 3d. I have a ucando 46 I fly at the field and want something I can fly at local parks. Are there major performance differenced between each model and is direct drive or geared better? They give you the option on ordering.

they are both geared.....one is brushless and one is brushed....
the brushed will fly...but the brushless will be fun...
I use that brushless motor and it works great.........

Would you recommend the Edge 540 or the Extra 300L I hate buying something I will grow out of quickly.
Ah, the SU-29 is the one that offers two motor options...

Fancy Foam is recommending a NON gear drive motor now. Go with the OUTRUNNER brushless motor they recommend. As far as the planes, you never outgrow a foamy. You just smash them up and move on to the next one.

I've been flying the Extra. It flies great. Based on the videos that are posted on the sight, it looks like they all fly great. I put in a geared brushless motor that I took off of my E-flite Ultimate. If I had to do it over again, I'd go with the non-geared outrunner brushless that they are now recommending. Brushless offers virtually unlimited power, the'll last much longer than the brushed motors, and in the long run, they'll save you money, and the fun factor is off the charts.

If you need EVERYthing than the packages make sense....
I couldn't afford it all at once.... so I bought pieces... but ended up with pretty much the same as the brushless package that they list

I agree, If you can afford it all at once Fancy Foam's package is nice. Good equipment and a good price. You mite be able to shop all over and find stuff a tad bit cheaper but by the time you pay all the shipping charges you would have been better off buying it all at once from them. And I know he ships fast.

I'm really confused. I am building a fancy foam edge 540 from the performance kit ff sells.
I am new to foamys and just got done ordering a new $70 speed controller from burning up the last one with a polarity mistake -- oops. Now, i have everything hooked back up and can't seem to get the elevator to work. The elevator servo operates when plugged into the aileron channel -- so i feel confident its not a bad servo. I have the elevator plugged into channel 3 and the battery in channel 1 (throttle). The electron 6 doesn't care what channel its power comes in on. I am running a JR 9303 Tx and Hitec Electron 6 receiver with a phoenix 25 esc. Could it be a bad receiver or more likely something my ignorance and newbyness is overlooking....
Anyway -- does anyone have any ideas as to what i'm doing wrong? I'm starting to get really frustrated. Please god... someone help. [&:][&:][&:]

Really hard to tell without being there, but here are a few suggestions. Did you buy a receiver that was the proper !QUOT!shift!QUOT! for a JR transmitter???? When you hooked whatever up back wards to fry the speed control was it also hooked up to the receiver, maybe causing damage???? I do not have an electron so this next question is just my experience with receivers in general, I though ailerons where always channel 1 and throttle was always 3???????? Your right about your servo, if it works on another channel it is not that. If you have a computer radio try resetting the memory on that model to get rid of any unwanted mixes you may not know are set up. At this point I would start from scratch and unhook everything and completely hook everything back up one at a time to make positive something isn't wrong with that. If that doesn't work you may have narrowed it down to a bad receiver. remember this from my experience is unlikely. Maybe after this you gave give us a little better clue to whats going on and I may have some more suggestions.

Now that I think about it a little more, I think you're right - it is a fried receiver. That little mishap hooking up the battery backwards will end up costing me about 130 before this is all said and done. Last night, when i finally said "to heck with it" every servo on the plane was wigging out bad and jittering and jerking all over the place. I assumed it was a dead battery, but i'm not totally convinced. Thinking that I have a bad receiver better aligns with everything that's going on. For instance, if i turn the plane on with out the Tx on, all servos jump about 1/8 forward.... I've never seen this before. If the Tx is then turned on, everything (except the elevator of course) zeros back to center. By rule, i always try to have the tx on first, but i did notice that once during all of my trial and error processes. If turned on and off several times, the servos would eventually end up torquing all the way against a flight surface and bind against. This doesn't seem right to me. I'll try it again tonight on a fresh mind and battery and see what happens. I'll advise.

Did you try changing the channel??
as Edge mentioned... I've always know channel 1 to be aileron and channel 3 to be throttle
and Chanel #5 to smell nice (sorry, feeble attempt at humor)
Oh, and it is pretty normal for the servos to go crazy if you turn the power to the RX on before the TX....
that is why it is normally safe and recommended to always turn your TX on first and turn it off last

OK. On a freshly charged battery with the esc in channel 1 (throttle on JR) and the aileron on channel 2 and 6, with the elevator in 3 and the rudder in 4, everything seems to be working correctly. THis foamy has been quite the experience for me. Thanks everyone for the help.
Exeter / Edge - Are you two flying futaba? I am wondering after looking at more JR docs and such if they are channeled a little different. My Funtana's receiver has channel 1 as the throttle and such as I listed above. I referenced the labels on that JR receiver (assuming that my JR transmitter's channels were 1 through 9 in relation to how the receiver that came with the remote is laid out. -- I assumed the first slot on the bottom of the receiver is channel 1) (ASS U ME) and cross referenced the channels over to the hitec electron 6. Everything's working now it seems. If i can get this Oklahoma wind to stop blowing or find a nice teacher friend with a gymnasium (hint hint) i'll take it for a spin. Thanks again.
