Anyone here flown the Parkzone Typhoon and can compare this to the typhoon's performance?
I'm thinking of running this plane with a 1320mah lipo/4200kv Inrunner brushless
What do you think?
I'm running a park 400 outrunner in mine right now. I briefly had the the park 400 4200KV inrunner with the 6.6:1 gearbox in the plane. Was able to swing an 12x6 slow fly prop and the performance was stunning. Very nice hover with the big prop. I only took the 4200KV motor out and put the outrunner back in as I originally built the plane with the outrunner and the stick mount was cut shorter than the inrunner gearbox mount needed. I had to space the prop out on the end of the propshaft to clear the cowl opening and with the prop out on the end of the shaft it was very susceptible to bending with the mass of the prop hanging on the end.

While I have not flown a Typhoon, I do know someone that has one. I don't think there would be much of a performance comparison. 225 watt motor on a 17 ounce plane

Ditch the inrunner and go with an outrunner. Outrunners sound better and have a lot less problems than gearboxes.

Go with the 400 outrunner brushless and 1320 mah lipo. You won't have to worry about stripped gears. That's what I use.

I also fly the Parkzone Typhoon. The two planes fly totally different. The Ultimate is much easier to hover, harrier, etc. The Typhoon great for aerobatics and not so sensitive to control inputs.

My third plane is an E-flite Mini Ultra Stick. That's another great plane and flies different than the other two. More for sports/pattern flying.

If anything would happen to any of these three planes, I would purchase another one right away.

Thanks Jmir... the typhoon is a little cheaper but then again with a couple of replaced servoes and a li-poly setup it would be over $300 too, so I'm thinking of just going with the Ultimate... one thing that bothers me is that the Typhoon has a nice airfoiled wing and the Ultimate i think has flat sheet foam wings? The foam wings must be weaker structurally, aren't they? How fragile do you think these are?
Also, I would like to go with an outrunner to save the hassle of gearboxes, but in the case of a nose-in or noseover what are the chances that the outrunner shaft is going to bend? With a gearbox design it would be just replacing the shaft, I don't want to have to replace the entire outrunner. So how strong are these outrunner shafts?
Also, which plane flies better in 5 to 15 mph wind?

My probable setup is this:
20a BL ESC, Eflite 1320mah lipo, celectra 1-3c charger, Eflite Park 370 4100kv BL inrunner, and a JR Sport 4ch with 3 sub-micro SM15 servoes. Should i go with 2 servoes for ailerons, making 4 servoes total? and should I be using sub-micro servoes or regular micros?

Thanks for the help in advance!

The shafts are very strong on the outrunners and can be replaced if need be, I personally would never have anything to do with a gearbox but thats just me. I have done a full throttle nose in on mine and it didn't hurt it at all. Also, the flat wings are lighter and are actually better for high alpha flight. Finally, I would stick with one servo for the ailerons to keep the weight down. I don't see any reason to use more that necessary. I don't know if it will handle wind better that the typhoon but I didn't have any problem in high winds with my bipe. I have actually landed with the wings level and the airplane getting blown backwards it was so windy. I had to keep the throttle up so I could go pick it up without it blowing away.

Your set-up will work fine. I would prefer the E-flite 400 outrunner (I think 940K). I tried the 370 inrunner for a while and got tired of replacing gears. Have never had any problems with the outrunner, even after some minor crashes.

Yes, the wings are flat and fragile, especially on the ends (beyond the area supported by the wire braces). You can use a couple of strips of clear plastic packing tape on the underside. This will strengthen them considerably and will not ad appreciable weight to it.

I had to ad some weight to the tail on mine so it would hover easier. Making it a little tail heavy aids on the 3D maneuvers.

The sub-micro servos should be fine.

Gentlemen,

This is Shotgun, I am just on my son's account. I have had the UFX problem fixed for quite some time, now. My son and I fly it, and we both LOVE it! My setup is listed below for those of you who are curious of how to set up your own. I appreciate all of the help and suggestions from you guys.

E-flite 450 Outrunner
Phoenix 25 ESC
E-flite Micro Servos all around.
Futaba Micro reciever
Thunder Power 3-cell 2100 mAH LiPo.

Thanks again!

Sorry, not the 2100. I "zoned" out for a minute. It is a 3-cell LiPo. It is the same that I fly in my Tribute.

I'm thinking of using a JR S400 4channel radio, but I don't know if it has dual rates or expo. Anyone have this radio and can say whether it has these?

Hi

How are you guys doing. Does anyone know if a Hacker A20-22L brushless motor and 20 A ESC fly this plane. I had it on my Yak 54 but i want a plane that is actually built up not just straight foam. I will use TP 1320 3 C Lipos. I have always wanted a biplane and i figured this would be a good one to start with.

Thanks Scott

Just flew my Ultimate FX today for the first time...had about 5 flights.....running an E-flite 450, s75 servos, hs56 hitec for ailerons....12 x 3.8 prop....This plane flies slow!!!!....very fun slow flying it....roll and pitch coupling was real strong.....tried to mix it out, but I think I made it worse....gotta go back and start from the beginning again....tough little plane too, crashed it when battery came loose under cowl and shifted back, throwing off the COG......ooops.....made a couple of small repairs at the field and she was back up in no time....over all, excellent slow flying characteristics....wasnt crazy about knife edge, but Ill try to mix that out...!!!!

See ya,

Jim
