Default EU-1A

My neighbor bought this old kit from an estate sale. Fiberglass fuselage and foam wings. Built up rudder and elevator. The manual does not have the dimensions for the horizontal stab and elevator. Does anyone have these numbers. Or maybe can help us figure out the dimensions by the info provided (wing area, wingspan, etc.) Thanks for any help you can provide. Below is the manual cover. The company on the cover did not have any info since the plane is no longer in production.

Perfect.......thanks so much. Maureen at Precision Aero Composites also was able to get back to me with some dimensions. My nieghbor mistakenly called this plane the Patriot, which led them to beleive that they never produced this plane.

Default For Sale!!!!

Gentlemen-
My neighbor (Bill Gurrola) has decided to sell the EU-1A kit that he bought at an estate sale. Fiberglass fuse, foam core wings. All in great shape. This also includes the balsa to finish the kit, which includes 5 sheets of 3/16 12"x48 balsa wing skins. He is selling the whole setup for $200 plus shipping. His email is [email protected] if anyone is interested. If you need pictures of the kit, just email Bill and He'll send you some, he has a digital camera. I am posting this for him because he is a little new at this and asked me to do it for him.

I know I'm coming in late here but...... I have TWO of them. I actually had THREE of them for a time, 2 kits and one built and crashed. I chucked the crashed unit when I moved. I fell in love with the lines of the plane at the 1984 NATS in Mass. It was just an awesome looking plane. I still intend to build them tho.

Default I've got one - kinda

I too fell in love with the looks of these planes long ago. I've had 2...the first one went down because of radio interference...I'd had it 14 years, but it sat for about 9 of those years (just couldn't let it go...). Had about 300 flights on it, even wore out a set of Rome-Air retracts flying the beast. Best rolling plane I've ever flown, just had that nasty habit of falling on it's back in vertical stuff. I've still got one....slightly modified from the original. Fus is the same as original, but the wing cores were cut slightly thicker at the root, so I could try it with a 4 stroke. It sat for 10 years after it was built...but I finally got it in the air. Motor is a YS 91 AC, which does a fair job...a 1.2 would fly it better. Landing gear is kinda high, because of the need for a big prop on a 4 stroke motor. Still love the way they look in the air...

Here's a pic of the one I have now...I'll try to find one of the first one I had...

Found a picture of my original EU1A - I miss that plane...

Rear exhaust OS 61, MAC pipe, Rom Air retracts, Old Futaba 6 channel...over 9.5 pounds dry...needed quite a bit of runway to get it off the ground, but was clocked at 91 mph by a hand held radar gun in level flight. Was quite load with a 11x7 prop...

I loved all the stories, I have fond memories of this plane. I have refinished the one my dad flew when I was a kid and now I fly it. It's like a roller coaster on it's rails. Awesome.

Hi! I have recently been fortunate to buy a used EU-1A complete with a Webra .61 rear exhaust, tuned pipe and Rhom retracts at an auction for $125. I've installed my trusty Futaba Super Seven and am looking forward to sport flying it. Sounds like fun from some of your posts. Now a request for help, could someone post the recommended CG position and control throws or the settings they use. Thank you!

I am working on completing a scratchbuilt smaller version. The guy I bought it from had framed it, and began to cover it. I stripped what he had covered, and began working on it this week.

It's smaller than the 60 sized version, to handle a .40 engine. All up weight should be less than 4lbs, which should make it quite a blast to fly. It has a blown canopy and a fiberglass cowl that I need to paint.

OK, my control throw are as follows.

Elevator 5/8" up and down
Ailerons 3/8" up and down
Ailerons should actually have a little bit of differential...a little more up throw than down...rolls a lot better, especially the slow rolls
Rudder As much as I can get

Good Luck, you'll love flying this plane...keep it fast and keep it low...it'll impress your friends...

And CG...good question...I don't have that or the plans, so I took a guess. With the retracts in the stock location, with no fuel, it should barely stay of the mains...the nose gear will just barely be touching the ground.

Mark,

Thanks for the settings and recommendations. Funny about the placement of the main gear, so close to the CG. I'm looking forward to getting her flying!

My most favorite Pattern Plane in the whole world. I had 3, all the same paint scheme. Still have 1 and 3. Still upset over #2. I’ve always wanted to do a slightly larger version with newer building techniques. The coolest thing about having the mains on the CG was that you could rotate onto the mains early, hit the retract switch. The front gear would go up but the mains would stay down until you just broke ground. I used to think I was so cool when I did that. Here’s me 15 or so years ago.
