Thanks Barry,
I did read about that and have been contemplating the move. I believe that I will end up doing so and feel comfortable with the process - especially since the little cable popping issue came up. I may have to re-read the posts, but did you put the servo in forward of the elevator servo or aft? I am guessing fore would be easier with the increased depth, but I am just curious - and did you just use a 4-40 rod for the pushrod? Thanks!

For the pushrod, I used a 4-40 turnbuckle from an electric R/C stadium truck. Works great.

I mounted my rudder servo on the opposite side of the elevator servo and just forward of it. The fuse is just a little thicker there and slightly eaiser to build the mount. I was able to access the newly cut servo hole from through the elevator servo hole to help with the glueing of the plywood for the rudder servo mount.I used a carbon fiber rod with titanium 2/56 rod ends. Very stiff and light. However, light isn't necessarily better in this case, but it's what I used.
I haven't flown my Mayhem in a while, I think I'll get it out for this weekend. I really enjoy it.
Thanks
Barry

I hope someone is still looking at this thread. I'd like to put carbon fiber landing gear on my Mayhem. Has anyone done this? If so, any recommendations on sources and/or size would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just wanted to drop a quick thanks to everyone that kept this thread going. I followed it for a couple weeks from the start and bought my own. Setup as follows: Saito 1.00, Hitec 645 all surfaces, pull-pull rudder, hitec 81 throttle, JR PCM 770 rx, 1700 NiMh under rudder servo, all stock hardware, and some minor surguries for lightening puposes. It wieghs 6.6 LBS dry (yes Im sure its correct) and the CG is at 6 inches. I flew it about 6 times and hated it, but I think my hate was a misunderstanding after reading every post in this thread over the last couple evenings. I've built and flown 4 other models since the Mayhem while it sat in the basement for well over a year ashamed of itself. [&o] Looking back on those first flights I remember the reasons I didn't like it: it was painfully slow, fragile, it floated too much landing, it didn't like wind, the uplines were crooked, and although it could 3d well the standard aerobatics were lacking in accuracy and crispness. Well since then Ive quenched my thirst for speed (predator 500), ruggedness (USL 120 w/ G26 gasser), accuracy (27% H9 Extra), and 3D (EF mini 3d), so I am back thinking about a short field knock around 3D plane (that is bigger than my mini 3d that flies like a foamie on a steriod/methamphetamine cocktail). After reading all of the posts from satisfied Mayhem owners I think I need to give the Mayhem another try. I got it ready today...reprogrammed the radio for spoilers to help the landings, fixed the thrust for uplines, and checked everything over. I really am exited to fly this plane again! That doesn't happen often in this hobby without spending the green! Now that Im am more realistic about how this plane is meant to fly I think I will enjoy it more, and the fact that I've had it so long eliminates the feeling of spending money on it and thus elimates the fear factor so I am going to thash with it! I have to admit it was odd to pull the cowl off of a plane I have owned for a year and a half to discover a perfectly new clean engine.

sgillmore, I checked graphteck and they didnt list it, but you might give them a call to see if another model's gear is compatible.

Both motors would be a good choice for this plane. Check weights and use the lighter motor if you want the best performance.

I just got one for Christmas and will be putting a 91 fx in it...should swing a 14X4w or 15x4w no problem. Im right as sea level so I think this will be fine since the plane is so light.

Hello Mayhem owners, guess what I found under the tree ? Yessss, a SIG Mayhem ! They just started to sell them here in Germany, and when I ordered the delivery was postponed till just before Christmas.
I read through the whole thread throughout the last weeks and am excited to get the bird built and ready to fly. I'm just breaking in my 13years old YS120SF which was still new in the box. I bought it on a business trip to Shrewsbury/Mass. in those days. We were flying Gremlins at a field called CMRCM.
Maybe I over read it but I'm still looking for the best prop size for this engine, 18x6 or 16x8 or 18x5, 18x4 ? My experience with this engine is very low, just 30 minutes break in. Any hint or link is very appreciated.

Ok, how bad did I screw up?
Just got started on building my mayham. I joined the wing halves together last night on my large table making sure they were lined up correctly (rib to rib) and also making sure they butt up to each other as much as possible. I then let it dry lying flat over night.
This morning I pulled the tape off I used to secure it together and I noticed something wrong. The wing now has approximately 1/8" - 3/16" of anhedral built into it. [:@]
Should I buy a new wing kit or just fly it?
Thanks.

Hi friends, this my first post but I read the entire forum, I live in Spain and now i am building the Sig´s Mayhem, it looks a nice 3d airplane. Instead of using the decals provided I use a new decoration, but still using the original covering, also I put carbon stringer in the tail. and home made carbon fiber main and tail landing gear.
The options for power is an A.S.P. 108 and the new O.S. 120 AX, soom I will send some photos.
Big Barry is a great defender of this model, and so I want to do with the finish of my airplane somo honors to him.

Barry, got mine done and cg'd at about 5.25". I had to ad .5 oz to the tail since I didn't want to move the battery back yet since I used the stock pull-pull rudder location. 3 flights and boy I love this plane. I am not a 3D pilot yet, but at my stage of the game, I love what this plane can do. The landings are so nice since it slows down so well.''
Just a quick question, does anyone use flaperons to slow it down since it can float?

wxman...Glad you like the plane. They are pretty cool. I use spoilerons instead of flaperons. Spoilerons make the plane drop in stead of float.
Thanks

I think the flaperons will make the plane float more. But I land mine all the time without using flaps or spoils. You may want to mechanical add just a bit of spoilerons. Maybe even double check your ailerons. You many have them slightly down already. Just lengthen the pushrod a hair and it will help without hurting anything. If you go to far, add flaps. Thanks

I noticed the Mayhem at one of my local LHS's about 3 weeks ago, They had
it discounted as a managers special $149. I have been reading posts about it
over the last few days, alot of great things said about it.
I called my LHS last night to see if they still had it, the fella that I spoke to said
they sold it. Bummer![:@]
[&o]
I thought about it for a moment, I wondered if the guy really did look for it, or
if he just kind of glanced around and could have missed it.
Well I called back to the store 5 minutes later, I got a different LHS worker this
time, one who's voice I recognized. He told me they still had it! I was at the store
in 10 minutes!
So I am now the proud owner of a very nice looking Mayhem and for a great price!
I am electriifying this one. Purple Hacker power!
Thanks for all the great posts guys!
Regards,
Jesse

Does the joiner between the two elevator halves seem to be pretty solid or does it flex a lot? I know someone people complain about the wire joiner on planes like the Funtana because it allows the two halves to flex a lot.

As I remember the elevator is one piece. Doesn't have a joiner. You cut the tail apart and there is a pre-drilled hole the the elevator goes through and you glue the part you cut out back in. Pretty slick. And you save the weight and cost of one servo. I use a Hitec HS5645 on the elevator and I haven't had a bit of problems. I really can't tell any difference than say the Funtana, UCD, Showtime, Yak, all of which have two elevator halves. It seems to have just as much athority and I don't notice any deflection. Thanks
Barry
