what do think Archie - made up your mind about kitting this one yet ???????
Malc if the YS kicks out 9300 on the apc 15 x 4 W then its a goer. The OS 91FX turned the 15 x 4 at 11,000 but I rarely used full throttle because it didnt really need it. Should be really floaty with this setup.

If a YS63 can 3D a 90 plane its a true testament to the lightness of both the C90 and YS
I knew YS were good but not this good...

I think if 100 prople or more say "kit" It will seem profitable, but if only the 15 or so here who want a kit get one I wouldnt mind because I would have a very exclusive plane!

why the 63 ?
because its 10 oz lighter than a typical 90, and running with 30% nitro there will be enough power to 3D
lighter models fly better, mine flies superbly, save another lb in weight and it will be even better.

Finished albeit a raw cowl and seeing as the paint on my 140 cowl only weighed 20 grams I,m not bothered
She weighs 108 ozs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yep really!! Carbon copy have made a real light glass cowl and a thinned 140 U/C.
It will need a lower U/C pattern as the ground clearance could swing a 18" prop with ease at the moment

This mean a large 68" span model with a wing loading of only 17 ozs per sq ft
Sorry no pics wing are now packed ready for trip. Hopefully flying shots etc next Sunday when we get back from Cherbourg

The model feels strange you can sit it on your hand @ the CG and literally chuck it up and down. Thing is it looks soooooooooooooo BIG [8D]
Cant wait
Ultimate give CC a ring and get a glass jobby sorted

I never flew Ultimates 90 powered but I have observed.
I have observed and FLOWN Barons with the 63.
Truly amazing machine - closest IC plane Ive flown to a shockflyer ! at certain attitudes it uses its areas at others it tumbles like a stick plane...
great but on this engine and (eventually the right prop - guess what 14x5N like my 50 !) 30% nitro it was a dancer for the right hands...
For the general pubic looking for a small 140 the like of the ys 110 will be baby making material !
Seriously considering a short run of reserve kits - dont think it will make production.....

a short run of kits will start as a short run of kits, then when they run out youll do just a few more, then just a few more, and a few more.................
how did malcs cope with the wind being so lightly loaded ????

Rock steady straight from a wall. Harrier is just a joke!!! Just guided it with the rude err. The rudder is capable of almost a heli 360. Did my first clean waterfalls\flips with it too

Baron - its not the control surfaces that is doing it it is the lack of weight at the front...
with the 63 this plane is balanced like a shocky.... no significant heany lumps anywhere except around the middle... plus overall of course it weighs bugger all for its wing area.
when I say it needs the right hands on the stick with this set up I mean to do a proper freestyle routine. It does the 3D stand up stuff easy peasy but you need to stich it together with other stuff and make it look like you will not run out of power. There is JUST enough in your 90 - reminds me of my 50 with the Mag 61... enough to t'roll and slowly pull out of the top. Not a lot of margin for down low error where a normal pump on the throttle will get you out of there - although the lighter wing loading assists to a greater extent.
The important point is that iut has successfully proved a point...... you can fly a fairly larger than average 90 2str machine on a YS 63 and have great success.
As I said before, these models are so well balanced that extremes in the engine range are possible..
C90 - you really can do (I believe) from a 63 4 str (as we know) up to a 120 FS - and in the right hands a 140 ! Why not - Paul Carr flys a 50 with a 90 FX - same as Ultimate used in the Proto 90 ! Its all about that left stick (M2) !!!

Please dont judge me on the scheme
Model was finished in a hurry I will finish cowl and scheme asap now I am back from Cherbourg.
This pic is of MR & Mrs Munns (Chief Island hobbies builders) Model on left is a moki 135 powered 140 @ 10 .5 lbs.
On the right my 90 @ 6.5lbs [8D] Yep 4 lbs lighter!!! I am using this pic to give you an idea of the sizes

The 63 is more than enough grunt. Have to admit a 110 would be silky though.
Maybe a ys 110 but a 140 would be pointless in my book [:'(] Just going to make the model heavy.

wow, thats amazing! two nearly allmost the same size planes with 4lbs weight difference! imagin if you could get a YS110 powered 90 down to the weight of the YS 63 powered one
