Setup/Mods to Kyosho Flip 3D

I am about half way through my Flip 3D. Getting readyto start on the backend. Something has ocurred to me.
First off, I hate those elevator halves connected by rods or sticks. Think its a horrible setup, long term. In looking at the plane and seeing a post someplace else, it occurs to me that it would be very easy to put mini servos in the existing slots in the rear to run both elevator halves separately. I have Hitec MG225's that give more than enough torque for the split elevator. Then I can mount the rudder servo forward on the bottom of the fuselage, just aft of the wing and run a pull-pull to the rudder.
So, has anyone done this, if so how did the balance come out and what engine did you use. Mine is a YS63.

I am just about to take mine out of the box to start assembling it. Mine will be powered by Saito's new 82a.
Sounds like your mod on the tail would work fine. I've read through pages and pages of info on this plane and I never saw anyone complain about the elevator joiner, but I did notice that several people said to be careful to make sure they are aligned good prior to gluing.
The most common mod I saw was to toss out the metal hinges.
Comments about this plane are very positive and I am looking forward to mine. I have a few projects that I am still finishing up, so mine will be almost July before it's in the air.

I have read a ton of stuff also. Haven't found but a few comments relating to my idea. If you haven't started yours yet be careful of two things:
(1) If you mount the tank on CG you will find that the servo tray mounts to low and interferes with the tank stopper going through the nose ring. I fixed it by notching the back of the servo tray. worked great.
(2) Mounting the wing turned out to be a b****. Getting the holes to lineup when you put the reinforcing plate on the wing bottom was a mess. I ended up messing with it for half an hour with a dremel tool before I could get the wing bolts in.

erm, this isnt really a tip of anything, but id seariously advise not carshing it!
also, this is a tip, add a strong servo to the tail, thats one hell of a lot of rudder. i only had a 148, which i admit worked ok but it got allot of slop very quick, so i changed it on sun morning to a new 148 and that wernt a good move, on a little tumble about 25 foot up it when into n inv spin and doinked itself on the deck. at center stick the rudd had about the same amount of movement as in the picture, so i coulnt pull out in time. hit the deck not too hard but totaled it, in that mid canopy section there were no formers left, and allot of dust! lol

yes, thae UC always comes off, a very very week point of all the flip i know of. the fire wall has come off in lille accidents aswell, like in a cartwheel when i fell out of a hover after a tail tap, ie very low. the second time happend the flight before this, it was on a harrier landing that i got too close so i had to ditch it in from meby a couple of onches from my tail to the deck. both tiomes it had just come off the at the top, but ont his quite slow inv spin (took about 5 secs to srom 25 feet, meby 5 turns in total aswell) it came strait off.
and yes, thats always going to be the final word, a 3D palen is ment to fly, not to crash in any means.

PS, i fogot to mention, the 148s gears didnt strip, they jumped, so i had no stripping, just aloot of movement, and controll in one way
