Well,
Got to meet several guys from RCU today at the EFE. Bob, where were you??????
Had a pretty good day. Light cloud cover helped with the heat and good BBQ helped with the empty tummy.
All had a good time with the exception of "Airplane" Blaine. It is amazing what happens to a 40 % Carden Edge with it smacks the groung during a low KE pass. SPLAT!...... He was a trooper though, got the 40 % Carden Extra out of the truck and flew a routine with Mike Sauls (SP????). Those Cardens sure look like great birds.......
Thanks to Owen who put on a hell of an event. I had a blast.

Yes, It was good to meet everyone and to see some old friends and club members. The show was good. I arrived just after the first crash. They were actually walking out to the field picking up the pieces.
I see that one of my problems is that I don't have enough elevator deflection. WHen you go with 70-90% on the elevator, I guess the tail has to stay down. It was amazing to see the control with that much throw.
My only disappointment is that I asked several pilots for recommendations on the setup "they" used to keep the plane from snapping when doing high alpha maneuvers (elevator). Their response was that all planes snap, you have to fly your plane through it. While I will agree that the wing will stall and you have to use aileron to compensate. I saw people bring up spoilers and I saw people who gave left aileron during a full up elevator movement. A couple looked as if it was mixed but these guys are so good it is hard to tell.
When I get my backup plane done, I will set it up with long servo arms and try some high alpha moves. I am not interested in torque rolling but I am in to doing a elevator and harrier and would love to learn to land out of a elevator. For now, I want to learn to fly better. The fancy stuff I can leave to those with the money to pay for their mistakes!
GREAT SHOW!!!!

I know what you mean.....on my little itty bitty 81" Air Wild Edge (compared to those guys yesterday) I have 60 degrees of throw on the elevators. I only use them during slow, high alpha type flying. I have a lot of expo (85 %) as well.....very little input is needed and can get to be a real handful quick. It is rock solid in elevators and harriers with no spolier type of programming.
I'd suggest getting a Edge to learn the 3D type of flying. Nothing does it better. I'd be concered with trying it with the Giles......but that is just me.

Thanks for the update Pugsley.
Did you happen to see Gary Hall (the Fox rep) and If you did was he flying his Lanier Edge or did he get his Bradford CAP put back together.
also,
Do yo uknow if anything else besides Blaine's edge didn't make it through the weekend?
Wish I could have gone!
Anybody got any pics?

I only went Sat. and there were only two crashed planes that I know of. Blaine and Wes. Wes was doing a low waterfall and smacked the ground on the down line. Hit pretty flat. The gear was pancaked. There were a couple of other close calls.....
The only Lanier Edge that I noticed was the 90" one. Not sure who owned it or what motor was in it.
I have some pic's that I plan on uploading...

jnjacksn - Unfortunately no, Blaine's Edge wasn't the only casualty. Later the same day his motor on his 40% Carden Extra 330 quit during a hover... completely broke the nose off just in front of the landing gear. I missed seeing that one, but unfortunately I watched his edge all the way in right in front of me
***shudder*** Man it makes me sick just thinking about it. Wes Batson from Mobile pancaked his 40% edge Sat too; tried a backflip into a short elevator too low and rode it into the ground. It sounded bad, but should be fliable with a week or two of repair - it was all in one piece.
Accidents aside, it really was a GREAT show!!! Lots of great 3d and a lot of huuuu.... *gasp* wild moves. Seeing Mike Sauls dive and pop into a blender at treeline height was almost more than I can bear to watch! Mike and Blaine did an awesome formation demo too with synchronized rolls, snaps, walls, knife edge circles, etc. I'll try to get some pics and maybe some video up soon.

I really hate to hear about Blaines misfortune. Although I saw this on his website...

I am pretty sure he will be back ready to go soon. Probably better than before.
Did he have anything else to fly with him? I am pretty sure somebody would have loaned him something to fly, even considering the bad luck.
Hal Jennings is a member of our club!
(We are spoiled)
How did he do?

Here's a video clip of Hal Jennings backing a hover down to a landing. (4.59MB)

We stayed until dark Friday and I checked the radio impound several times on Saturday around noon. The club was heavy into their promotion at that time and I didn't see anyone except stomper a couple of times. Sorry I missed you guys, it was a great show. The following posts are some pictures I took. Hope you don't mind...
This is Mike and Blaine coming head on and 1/2 rolling at the last minute.
