I have two Graphtech gears. One on my 4 Star 120 and one on my DP 330L. The 4 star gear is plain black and the DP is Yellow. I have quite a few landings on them with no problems what so ever. I have spoke with Mike at Graphtech several times while we designed the 4 star gear and he has always been very honest and help full. I also have their tail gears and have had no problems. They gears are a significant weight savings and don't spring bounce like a light aluminum gear. Give Mike a call, explain your situation and my guess is he'll make it right for you.

The kevlar is there for a good reason - toughness. Carbon fiber is brittle, and when it fails it does so suddenly. Kevlar is much less brittle and handles sudden impact loads better.

Moose Carbon Fiber produces lightweight composite carbon fiber landing gear for RC airplanes. Most of the carbon fiber landing gear will save about half the weight of the stock metal gear while looking pretty good at the same time.
All of Moose Carbon Fiber's landing gear is made from 100% carbon fiber and epoxy. No cost cutting fiberglass filler in the middle. Just solid carbon fiber and high modulus epoxy are used to make the strongest and lightest landing gear possible
to me its an obvious choice because the troy gear for the edge is 50$ weighs 4.5 ounces where as the moose gear cost me 30$ and weighs 3.5 ounce!

Moose?...There is allot to do for creating items out of carbon fiber..such as how is it cured? what is the mold made of? does he use the material that leaches the excess epoxy out of the carbon? I'm not as versed as an engineer..but i do know that to do carbon fiber right you need to put some money in the equipment..so that $20.00 diff. does concern me. either we are getting riped off by cost...or quality..Thats what I'm trying to find out. I have too much into my plane and not enough money to play Guinnie..sp? pig..
I do appreciate all the feed back

Last night I flew my DP 330L with the Graph Tec gear for the first time. Even managed a bad landing. They are very stiff and don't bounce like the stock gear. AND LIGHT!!! I'm down to 14.5 lbs with a Taurus 2.6!!!!

Hey there brittain. I too have the CF gear on mine. I think I am carrying around too much battery weight, but I am surprised my DP weighs a full POUND more than yours. I weighed on a great scale, accurate to 2/10 oz, and I am at fifteen and a half pounds.
I have seen your plane out at Shoe Factory. You have the Taurus, I have the BME. Even though mine flies great, it bugs me that its a pound heavier than yours.

I used a digital fish scale that I picked up at Walmart. I've had it for a few years and it appears to be fairly accurate, but I've never really tested it. I do think I got lucky and got one of the lighter DP 330Ls.

Shortman,
I'm not trying to start an argument here but I am a little confused
??? According to Moose's web site they don't make a gear to fit a DP330L. The heaviest planes they have listed for their gears are 12 lbs which is at least a couple pounds lighter than most DP330l's.
Also the Extras have a curved gear rather than an angled gear and I did not see any of these on their site either. It also mentions on their site that they don't usually make custom gears and only stock a few of what they make. So what model of their gear are you suggesting for the DP 330L ? I do know Graph tech makes a gear specifically for this plane and they will custom make many other gears if you give them the dimensions and it is for a fairly popular plane currently on the market such as the 4 star 120 gear they made for me. As far as I'm concerned Graph tech and it's owner Mike are first class and more than willing to work with and please their customers.
