Any of ya'll have luck 3d'ing an Ultimate that is the size of the CG or DP?
I just got back into the hobby after 4 years leave and 3d is something new to me.
I've been told that Ultimates can't do 3d.

What is your understanding of 3D?
Bipes will do all of that stuff - setup right.
Perhaps your advisor simply does not have the correct setup or skills yet.

The DP ultimate wont waterfall..... Dave said it wont, Frank knoll couldnt get mine to waterfall......the wing rock is pretty violent on it at times and it might not have enough power (saito 150) to do the climbing spins and such. Easily t rolls and does beautiful harriers, elevators and other high alpha flying....

Hey Dick, I don't mean to be a smart ass, but the person who told me this is Sean McMurtry's dad. That doesn't mean he is necessarily the bearer of all R/C knowledge, but I tend to believe him when he says something. Maybe he meant to say that 1/4 scale Ultimates just aren't good at 3d, or that they aren't the best choice to do it with. We're not talking about Chip Hyde's Ultimate, but these smaller ones. I know they can do torque rolls, and hang off the prop, which are considered 3d. The previous poster replied that he can do harriers and elevators. So, clearly, there is some 3d that can be done with a 1/4 Ultimate. But, assuming I was a capable pilot, would it be possible to do a waterfall, or a rolling harrier? I guess my question should have been "How capable is the ultimate at 3d?"

Tool,
I couldnt get mine to waterfall at all so I called and spoke with Dave Patrick. He said it wont do it (its give and take, fantastic knife edge, but wont waterfall...). Frank knoll even flew my plane and could not get it to waterfall. High alpha rolling cicles might be possible but I would think they are much easier on a larger plane. Not sure the ailerons are powerful enough to roll it that quick(that and probably to high wl). I have not done one but that doesnt mean it cant be down on the DP ult.! Does a good blender.
The higher alpha flying really rocks the wings back and forth on this particular plane but can easily be done.
Im not sure itll do climbing inv flat spins b/c of power.

I think one of the coolest moves is the kamkaze. Low throttle 300 ft...dive straight down....30/20ft hit 3D elevator and stop decent instantly and perfectly horizontal. The sound of the air and visual blows away folks that are not ready. I do this to land and it's a crowd favorite.

Sorry, but I don't have a video cam. However, the move is very easy since the Ultimate takes care of you.
This maneuver is described in the manual and I started it from very high but after about 7 attempts I was down to 20/30 feet.
I think the wings would rip off of a mono plane.
It's so easy and makes spectators think you are a pro.
