I dug around on Ebay a bit, and found an "Ashtray Helmet" of the proper size for $7.00! After a bit of "customizing", i.e. removing the ashtray from the helmet and making sure that it was epoxied in the right places so it didn't rattle around, I wound up with a seriously good looking pilot! The full face helmet guy looks great! It doesn't weigh much, and it's a lot cheaper than the $40 - $80 'helmet heads' that i've seen on other rc sites.

Here's one...[link=http://cgi.ebay.com/Motorcycle-Bike-Helmet-Ashtray-RED-FLAMED-CHOPPERS_W0QQitemZ320141538986QQihZ011QQcategoryZ5 94QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p1 638.m118]helmet[/link]

Carbon steel....ha, ha, that's funny! Thanks guys! The Ulti will be for sport flying (no 3d) so a little weight would be okay! It's a great looking bipe, for now I plan to power it in the low end of the engine range, Fuji32b I happen to have an extra one laying around. The truth is "open mouth, insert foot" I told the guys at the field that I thought my little mighty Fuji32b would sport fly the Ulti well, now I have to put my money where my mouth is................My sport flying test will be to fly from one end of the field to the other in a knife edge without losing any altitude, big wide loop from level flight, I know that's asking alot from the little Fuji32b........again, I think it can do it! Of course, all that money in my mouth may have to go towards a DL50

Y'up, just ordered two helmets also! How tall and wide are they? I'll post the results of the little Fuji 32b good or bad. Thanks!

Well, I've got the canopy on mine with my lil' dude inside, so sticking a yardstick up to him isn't possible, but.... in my 'estimation' he's about 4" tall x 5" long x 3 1/2" wide. Looks about perfect for 27 to 30%! I set mine on a 1/2" thick block of balsa so he can see out over the instrument panel. Be sure to epoxy his visor into place, or it'll shake loose (don't ask me how I know....) Not the lightest things in the world, but I'd guess maybe 1/4 to 1/2 oz. but then, i'm not planning on flying at the TOC anytime soon, just having some fun.

I plan on using my DX7(awesome radio), how are the two wings setup using two channels, two servos per Y harness per wing? Hope that makes sense! I plan to have a servo for the kill switch and dual elevator servos.....that ties up all my channels.

I would invest in a SmartFly Power Expander.

This gives you two outputs per channel. I have the JR 7202 which is almost the same radio as the DX7 programming wise. For the Ailerons, I use the Flapperon function and in combonation with the Power Expander, no "Y"'s are needed. (Ch 2 and 6)

For the dual elevator servos, mix Elv and Aux. (Ch 3 and 7)

Kill switch is on Ch 5 (Gear)

Is that the Power Expander Sport or Plus? Will either work?

Either will work. The Sport has Deans plugs for battery input and no ignition kill. I have the Sport Plus. You get the fiber optic ignition kill, built in battery share (a must if you run dual Rx packs) and standard connectors for battery inputs.
I'm running dual 6V 2000 mAh NMh packs. Overkill? Maybe, but I'm also using 8 high torque digital servos.

Got my Ultimate this afternoon, nice. I have the Cap232 and the Ulimate is just as nice. It did have two minor holes in the left side of the fuse but the location is just right for a Switch or decal, why would they pack the cabanes loose up against the fuse[:@], anyway too nice to get upset about it. Well gotta go read my manual so I can start building tomorrow......................Anybody have any idea as to how big/oz the gas tank is?

18oz. Which if used with the Fuji 32 should last oh, somewhere in the neighborhood of 3-4 hours.

Hey Merry Christmas everybody,

Quick question for you Ultimate gurus. Are you using the Ca hinges that came with this kit? I always like to use Robart hinge points. I usually build from kits, so I can always add more to the trailing edge area to drill for these hinges. You guys that have had one of these stripped down, is there enough meat in the wing trailing edge and aileron leading edge to hold a hinge point? What about the tail feathers? I'm running a DL50 and 5985's.

Thanks,

Tim Hendrix

I've been using Radio South 1/4 scale Pro Hinges... [link=http://www.radiosouthrc.com/pro-hinge.htm]http://www.radiosouthrc.com/pro-hinge.htm[/link]
for a year and a half and they are still perfect !
I did a different layout to double up at crucial points.

The Robarts need some "meat" behind them, which isn't there on the ulti (unless you're going to recover it). The big Dubro hinges work great!

I used the stock GP hinge material. I cut them wider 1"x1" instead of the suggested 3/4"x1". I have not had any problems with them at all. I do keep a close check on them though as I would ANY type hinge.
