"I was thinking carbon fiber rods with ball link attachments, but I defer to the experts here."
I used carbon fiber rods over 4-40 all thread rod with the ball link on the servo end and Dubro heavy duty safety clevis on the control horns for a rock solid setup.

DA 50 owners: Any of you have a link to print out template for mounting engine? I used one from flying giants, but it doesn't match up w/holes. I adjusted pdf print page and it still won't line up...thanks for your help!

RE: Great planes ultimate 160
Austin,
I simply made one. To do this put the standoffs on the engine then place it on a plain piece of paper. Trace around the base of each of the standoffs. Remove the from the paper and align a ruler on the center of each of the circles you traced. If you must you can measure the width of the circle and find it that way or you can draw a box around the outside of the circles just touching the outside then draw through the center from each corner. Once you have the center of each circle, connect the dots drawing a box from corner to corner. Find the center of each line on the box and connect the lines with a plus sign. You will now have a template that contains your points for the screws and the center of the mount.

Thanks, I actually created that one with Maudib a long time ago and we sent it to them. He used MS Word, I created the PDF
I also have them for the DA100, DA150/170. Someday when I have something to mount it in, I'll create one for the DA85 that I have and used the one out of the manual

Codfish,
Could you possibly post a few pictures of your home made load tester? I am not really good with electronics, so this would really help me. I already purchased the 10 Ohm resistors at Radio Shack
Thanks,
Bob

RE: Great planes ultimate 160
I would like to install a smoke system in my Ultimate. This would be another first for me. Does anybody have any recommendation on the best setup to use? I was thinking maybe the B&B pump or possibly Sullivan skywriter. I have a Dle 55 with stock muffler. Will I need to buy a smoke muffler? Smoke tank size?
Thanks!!!
Thanks!!!

Was gonna buy it for back up and someone came in and got it before me. Ah well. The build is going well. Just trying to figure out the best setup for it. Happy flying all. RE: Great planes ultimate 160
I need some opinions... I've got a 220 saito (glow version) and it flies this plane good. I think it has unlimited vertical (havent flown the plane and motor but a couple of times). I'm wanting to go gas with a evolution 40gx for a couple of reasons 1 I like how it will mount on the beams and 2 I'm afraid a 50cc will be too much- dont want too much weight either. My question is do you guys think the 40gx will put out the same power as the 220?

clarkj,
Go with a DL55, it makes an excellent combination with the Ultimate. There are many of us with the combo and love it. Down size the fuel tank to a 14 or 16 oz tank because that is all you need for a 12-15 minute with a big reserve.

clarkj,
Engine weights only:
Evolution 40gx - 51.2 oz - $499 plus muffler, free shipping
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...#quickOverview
DL-55 - 46oz - $410 with muffler, free shipping
http://www.valleyviewrc.com/DLE-55cc%20gas%20engine.htm
The stock muffler for the DL is a cheapy so to be fair, just compare the prices shown. DL-55 equals more power, less weight, less cost.

Clark,
If you want an alternative. The BME58 Extreme [link]http://www.bmeengine.com[/link] really rips, has the smoothest operation of a single lung that I have ever seen, and it weighs less than 2.7lbs. The workmanship on these things border on masterpiece.

50cc motors are too heavy for me to put in this plane I'm just wandering if the 40 puts out the same power as the 220

I ran a spe43 in my 27% extra 260. I eventually switched it out to a dl50 and OMG what a differance. Pull out from a hover went from lazy to space shuttle blast off! I love it now!!

RE: Great planes ultimate 160
clarkj, If you will read back a few pages in this thread, you will find some guys that have tried the 40's in this plane and were disapointed in the performance enough to "RUN" to replace it with a 50.
I have a Brison 3.2 (51.2CC) on mine and the performance is spectacular to say the least.
