a1pcfixer..............

Do you really like the Ulty better then your 260?

I see you have a DP Ulty..... I had one of those and really loved it. does the GP fly better?

SDS
Yes & yes!
Remember the early days of real bibes. Big, slow, and ultra-manuverable.
The GP Ultimate has a style & grace all it's own. Add a 50cc gas engine, and smoke, and look out!

If you don't intend to do any hovering, want lower weight, and can live with a wee bit less power, go with the Brilleli 46GT.

If you want gobs of power to hover and pull out, get a DL50 or a DA-50r.

Just did a weight analysis

46GT with muffler and ignition = 56.6 oz

DL50 with same = 55.3 oz

I am surprised... I thought the 46GT was lighter then the DL50
Stop analyzing and push the button on the DL50! If you aren't happy, there are a lot of us that will buy it from you!

Good luck with selling the engine, it looks like you have an interested party.

I think you guys are talking me into a DL! Is there any downside with this engine?

The only thing I don't like about runnng a 50cc is that it protrudes further out of the cowl then a 46GT. I love the lines of the radically raked back cowl and anything sticking out of it to far ruins that line.

I think the 46GT will have enough power for me.... and I have one.... I am going to stick with the 46GT.

I like good verticle but I am not a 3D flyer at all.... IMAC, artistic aerobatics, and freestyle are my faves.... should have plenty of power for that type of flying.

Thanks all,
SDS

Once it breaks ground for the first time with the 50 on the front, you won't really care that the cylinder is hangin' out in the breeze. the 50 is without a doubt the correct engine for this thing!

I agree with Mike here. Many have installed less size engines and removed them to install the 50 size and were much happier. So, if your wallet lets you, then go with the 50.
Mine has a Brison 3.2 and I smile every time I fly it.

Highly rated, especially when you get lucky and find 'em used for under $300!

22x8 is good for 3D and 22x10 is good for IMAC.

I've been using a TBM 22x8 for my typical messing around flying. One thing I did notice on the TBM props was a bit less rpm from others i'd tried, but it sure pulls a lot harder!

Well, in spite of the tornados attacking my part of the state today, UPS came through on time and my Ultimate has shown up. Initial impression is great. I am very glad I decided on this one and not the others on the market. Now I just need to save my quarters to get all of those servos!

Well, I pushed the button this morning for the order for my second Ultimate this morning. I will now have two of them, one in Florida for the winter time and one here in Minnesota for the summer time. This build should go faster than the first one.

question for anyone who will respond. When you built your GP Ultimate 160, how did it go when you glued the top wing together, then mount and bolt it in place before the epoxy hardens? What glue did you use? The weather here in Fl is getting warm. No A/C in my shop. 30 minute epoxy does not last to long before it starts to set.

Just assemble it dry first, so you can make sure everything fits properly. Once you've done that, just keep all the parts close by and organized, and it shouldn't be a problem. Mine went together with no problems at all!

I used West System epoxy and 105 hardener. Takes about 4 hours to set up and has maybe 45 minutes of working time. I mask to the edges with tape, globbed the epoxy on, aligned the wings and then covered the seams with a 6" wide strip of waxed paper and smoothed out with the edge of a piece of sheet balsa over the paper. Makes a smooth, shiny seam that blends in well and fills all the gaps without needing to be sanded. WHen hard peeling off the waxed paper and the tape is all there is to it.

I also peeled the covering on the bottom wing and glassed the seam top and bottom to within 1/2 " of the bellypan edges.

aa2dd,
We have a place in Fort Myers where we are spending six months a year, and just became Florida residents in February. I fly at the Cape Coral R/Sea Hawks.

http://www.rseahawks.org/

Regarding attaching the upper wing halves, I'd look for a longer working time epoxy as Charlie P suggested. It actually doesn't take very long to attach the top wing if you practice it once or twice before applying the epoxy. For balancing purposes, I placed a loop of monofilament fishing line at the cg before gluing the upper wing together. It is sandwiched on each side of the aluminum rib. To balance the plane, just hang it from the loop and move your battery around. I didn't do the fiberglassing of either wing, I just made a wing joiner out of a quality 1x2 piece of wood.

Chuck
