i got a good deal of work done today!
this morning i started with two, fuse sides with the 6x6 pieces in place...
now i have a fuselage that looks like an airplane should! i have gotten as far as glueing in the firewall. yes, i remembered to seal it with clear dope. next i need to do the landing gear and then put the rear of the fuse together. it was all really easy!! i might have gotten the landing gear done, but i decided to do a flight on my electric this afternoon. i might get some more done tommorow morn. but i might fly again then. we'll see. it is coming a long great!! every thing fits verynicely except for a little sanding on the slots for the radio tray and on the firewall where it all interlocks. easy stuff to remedy. g'night all...

Thanks for the suggestion for the tank. I was thinking about a 10 oz Dubro for it anyway. The YS won't last long on 8oz's. I assume the YS will give me all the power I need.

I don't imagine your YS will use any more than my OS 50SX uses, and I find that the 8 ounce tank is more than adequate. I have my timer set at 12 minutes, start it on takeoff, and land after it beeps. This leaves me well over a third of a tank for reserve. Remember, you WON'T be using full throttle for long with this plane. Even if you're one of those that hits full throttle on take off and never touches the throttle until landing, it won't be long as you'll blow the tail off the plane very quickly! :-)

I just got back to working on mine today.
Has anyone elses wing fit like crap? If i put the wing in the fuse, and have the center of the leading edge line up with the holes for the wing dowels, there is about 1/8 or larger gap between the wing and the fuse on the top. I also cant get the belly pan to fit, it seems too tall and if its put on the way it should be there is a 1/8 or more gap at the bottom also.

Also, anyone else using the stock mount with a saito 72 4 stroke? thats what im using.

No, I didnt sand them at all. it will fit up against the top, but then the leading edge wont be quite centered where the dowel will go, so I guess I will just put them in a little bit lower.

Hi guys! I've been away for a long time, but I'm back now and ready to rumble. I was in Mexico and then in Vail for 10 glorious days of snowboarding. Woo! I started covering my tail feathers before I left, I'll get some pictures up and revive my dead thread!
Anyone fly theirs yet?

I just aquired a YS63 in a trade and im considering using it on this plane. I have the stock mounts installed, will they hold up with the 63? anyone else using them?
I was going to use a Saito 72 on it, which would have more power? I assume the 63 would, but this is my first YS engine.

I've been lead to believe that the YS has more power than the 72. Is the 63 lighter too? Too lazy to look it up at tower or horizon.
Use the YS, it has a cooler muffler. The kit goes together very sharply. I've got a building log that I'll be adding to tonight in this same 3D flying forum. Check it out!

Let's talk about control horns here. Can someone please post a picture of their tail linkage setup? My rudder control horn is going to conflict with my elevator throw and limit it to like 35 degrees. I used robart hinge points, so I've got 90 degrees each way. It'd be a shame to have to use only 35. I want 60. I'd sure like to see the throws and linkage setup others are using.
Thanks!

Well I finally finished mine and flew it this past weekend. I used a Saito 72 13x6 prop and it has planty of power. It is now my favorite plane. Mods include sheeting horizontal and using 3/8 stick for the elevators, Made longer wire gear ( which im going to change to aluminum anodized green like the spinner), and left the wingtips off it.
Knife edge flat spins and hovering are no problem. with the elevator/flap mixing this thing loops as tight if not tighter than a magic does, and it will do inside or outside loops no problem.
As for the elevator down throw, just had to live with the limit as it will hit the rudder control horn if you have too much.

Hey Guys, the lasers are awsome.
Currently flying one with following mods.
Elevators stretched 1" and also modified to clear rudder linkage for extreme throw.
Rudder stretched 1.5"
Piped MVVS 91 with 15x5 prop"
This combination is unreal.
A couple of pointers.
We had to go to heavy duty servos HT605.
Standard servos actually did not have enough torque and would relax under throttle / 3 D manuvers.
Also, blew the tail apart after repeated walls at excessive air speed.
The planes would actually fly backwards with the right wind conditions.
Sounds like a story, but actually got it to hover down with minimal damage. Pure luck I admit.
I have rebuilt with carbon rod at elevator hingepoint for brace.
No additional problems to date.
Also installed pull pull on rudder
Two buddies are flying with Saito 100. Un-real power.

Most guys are going with the YS 63. But there was a guy who posted in this thread that used the 52 four cycle and like it alot. Here's mine all covered! Just need to install radio gear and engine.

Reid,
Did you wind up sheeting the back half of the fuse?
I just got my kit today and plan to modify it a bit.
Sukoi nut did you lengthen the elevators spanwise or chordwise?
Same for the rudder? Was that mod suggested by anyone?
I've been thinking that the counterbalance part of the elevator looks too long spanwise. Of coarse I'll strengthen it but might it benefit from foiling also?
The fuse side area is much smaller than the flip and has little area under the wing. I'm thinking of adding a built up stringered cage full length under the flat fuse bottom. Might some forward side area disguised as wheel strut cheeks improve knife edge maneuvers and flat spins?
Can the Laser 3D flat spin as well as the pizzaz I saw climbing in a whirlwind inverted flat spin last week?

I did sheet the back half of the fuse. Folks here really seemed to encourage it. I did not however sheet the area over the fuel tank, and I also lost the wingtips. My projected weight plus or minus 2 ounces is 4 pounds 8 ounces with a YS 63.
I have a long thread about my build called Laser Models Laser 3D Building Log. That details my whole building process. Can't speak for the other guys.
Enjoy!

Reid I enjoyed your thread but I think you picked the wrong time to switch from transparent. chm says it won't fly without it.
I hope you beefed up your stab.
