Just fly it first and tell us about it . I'm sure you're going to like the way it flies.

Lookin good. How does he like it fly? I did a KE spin yesterday, and I must have nailed it right, because I've never seen a descent rate that slow on a KE spin. It was about as slow a descent rate as a typical inverted flatspin. With an aft cg, this plane tumbles with the best of them.

He loves it!, he has only been flying for 2 years but is getting very proficient. He is practicing his 4 point rolls, flat spins and inverted flat spins so far. With the 3W 75 on the nose, he can climb out of a hover like a home sick angel, it is pretty impressive to watch.

Wx was bad for us on Saturday and the sky was ugly on Sunday so he did not break it out to fly this weekend. He is spending a lot of time on the smart end of a trainer cord, so that has been good practice too.

Over all, the plane is very impressive to watch, I've held the transmitter for 2 very brief periods, I'm too slow to fly it the way he has it set up on low rates. I'm just an average "Sunday" guy, mostly because I just like puttering around. He is getting good at truly mastering his skills. OK, so I'm bragging a little..I'm a proud dad!!

My only complaint is I'm still terrified [X(] of the prop when I crank it over.

I can't wait 'till Saturday!

Bonedoc--how's the Edge holding up? I'm slowly getting mine together--decided to use the Evolution 58 unless I'm swayed before I get the motor---have you had any trouble with the elevator hinges ( the 2 short ones )--too bad Lanier didn't design the stabs so you wouldn't have to cut them so short--also noticed that they cut the ailerons wrong-no way to get full deflection without the ailerons hitting the wing cutouts ( even though I still think 36 degress will be plenty )--overall it still looks like it's going to be a nice plane---if you know of any problems I might need to know about please post--thanks

i have 40 on high

try to get as much as you can
it is not enough for a perfect flat spin

and i would go with 20 on low
just to get the feeling for the plane

I have about 40 degrees and my roll rate is somewhere b/t 1.5-2 per sec. Fast enough for me. Mine is holding fine, other than the part of the canopy that retains the screw (see earlier post), and the rudder hinge. My "robart" style hinge that came stock, broke at the bottom most part. No biggie as I can still fly it, but it's going to be a PITA to try to fix.

Bonedoc--thanks for the reply--I'm a little slow getting back here to check sometimes--old age and a good bit of overtime doesn't help ( actually the overtime helps buy the stuff )---will check on the hatch tabs and will keep an eye on the hinge points--thanks again

BoneDoc,
Best part of your videos is the music. Several of my favorite songs about my favorite "person". I sang "I can only imagine" at my Grandfathers funeral.

Nice thread, I had the original 30% Lanier Edge and it was a brick. It is good to see that Lanier has found a way to get competitive on AUW. I may one day have to try it out! Lanier makes a nice plane. Heres a pic of my original...

It's my way of opening up a dialog I guess . That's a great looking Edge btw, and it looks a lot more scale. How much did it weigh?

Yep, excellent way of opening dailogue.

It was a fat pig and weighed about 22 pounds. But it had a FANTASTIC 3W75 on it that pulled like a freight train. It was a really niceplane for IMAC, but not worth a flip for 3D. It was virtually unhoverable even though the 75 had to power to pull out. The plane just didnt want to do it. I eventually sold the plane, but would really love to build another plane around the 3W75, it is a great engine in every way.

-Bonedoc---Almost have all the parts to finish this bird--weighed everything except throttle servo, rx, fuel lines, motor, muffler and prop---weight came out to 12 lbs 3 ounces--have a zdz super 80-supersonic pitts muffler-nx 26-10 prop--petes tailwheel on the way--I figure the engine at 4 lbs 6 oz--prop at 6 oz-tailwheel I'm not sure--muffler I have no idea what it weighs----finished weight should be around 18.5--19 lbs----used 5625's on ailerons--5955's on rudder and elevators--probably a 5625 on throttle---smart-fly powerexpander and smart-fly optical cutoff--3 2400 lions--used a combo of Dubro and Hangar 9 hardware for control linkages and horns--I was planning on using an Evolution 58 for power until I saw the deal Troy Built Models has on the Super 80--too good to pass up even if it is a little heavier---a couple more weeks ( if I can stay away from work long enough ) and I should have it in the air ( and maybe it will cool off weatherwise just a little )--will post back as progress continues--relly not sure how it came out so light--weighed on a good scale--but it has been sitting in my shop where the inside temp gets over 95-100 everyday--the balsa is more like kindling I suppose

19 lbs would be about right for you. Man, with the ZDZ, that thing would rocket out of a hover like a foamy. I hope you have good throttle management, especially on your downlines and blenders . With an aft CG (approx .75 - 1" behind the most aft recommended), this thing will tumble like crazy.

--Actually 19 lbs is not going to be really light but considering all the stuff I'm putting in this plane I'll be happy at 18.5-19 lbs--it was just too good a deal on the price of the engine to not spend a little extra--I already have a DA 50 in a Hangar 9 Extra 260 ( which flies great ) so buying an engine that can be put in a 33-35% plane seemed like a good idea--hopefully this combo will work well

Well, the wingloading of WH Extra 260 / Edge 540 at 22 lbs would be 29 Oz/Sq in. On a 19 lb Edge would be 30 Oz/Sq in. So all in all, it'll fly very similarly. Compared to your H9 260, you'll see that this feels 1 class bigger than your standard 50cc variant. I've had this side by side next to the Aviation 50cc Yak, and this thing feels bigger, and presents itself as being bigger. So if 80cc works well on hauling 23 lbs, then imagine what kind of power/weight ratio you have on a 19 lbs aircraft! .

also, make sure you use strong servos, especially for the rudder so that it would transfer over to the 33% plane.

I put 5955's on the rudder and elevators so I should be good there---5625's on ailerons which should be enough if I don't end up with centering problems--already have some 5645's ( almost new ) that need to go back to Hitec cause they loose center--will let you know how it works in a couple of weeks--thanks

Phoneman,

So this is where you've been. Sure, you say you've got the Lanier Edge, but what proof do you have? Let's see some photos, dog. [sm=cool.gif] I can't believe you got that huge engine after I tried so hard to talk you out of it.
