Brillelli/Extreme Flight COMBO!!!
#26
We just finished assembling our Brillelli 40cc powered Yak last night and if the weather cooperates we will fly it this afternoon. 12 lbs 2 oz. Hitec 5645s on ailerons and elevators, 5985 on rudder and standard HS-425 servo on throttle. Fromeco 2400s on ignition and flight pack. We ran the motor last night and were very impressed with the power. We are running a Mejzlick 20x7. I'll post our results as soon as we get to fly it. Look for a review by Scott Stoops of this combination in an upcoming issue of Fly RC.

We put 4 flights on the Yak just before dark yesterday afternoon. I am very impressed with this combination. By the 3rd flight the Brillelli 40 was really coming on strong. Plenty of power for any maneuver and it will only get better as the motor breaks in. Videos coming soon!

Just IMAGINE with a 46..... Great job, Chris!!!! Happy you got it tested.... great to hear it is so light, with such great wing loading.
So it's a "74" Foamie" ????????

Ok, I am in--just could not stand it any longer.
I am convinced that this is the package to have for some very affordable easy to transport gas fun and a total performance package.
The plane is big and scale for the weight-- 11XX squares and 71" long. & The B46 is light and all that.
Think maybe I will go with 2oz 4.8v 700ma on ignition and 4oz 1500ma on receiver (From CBP), a 12oz tank, and a smaller(for 46) 20x8 good wood, no spinner, no wheel pants on this ~12.5 bird.
I am not a fast flier--my motor rarely unloads (low throttle settings) -- full throttle is only for quick bursts.
This sounds like way too much fun.

Chris - the one I have - with the Brillelli 46, Lite muffler.... no wheel pants, but otherwise RTF with spinner..... 12 lbs. 4 oz.
Oh My God.
This will be droolin', sloppy, incredible power to weight.
I used a 2700mah 4 cell NiMh to be able to balance more easily. Everything stock out of the box. Holy crap.
Cannot WAIT for some good wx to fly this puppy, let me tell you.

I would try an 18x8. Should have performance similar to a 20 x 8 two blade, but with slower spool up, and LOADS more dynamic braking when throttling back. Should work just fine, though, I would think.

If mine comes in at 12.5 pounds I will be very happy. I will be using no spinner or wheel pants and plan to use a 2oz ignition & 3.75oz receiver battery.

The TB wood looks very good as well.
Did you get RPM readings from both these props?

With your planned battery, you will have to put it at the rudder post, and probably add an ounce or so tail weight. My 2700, 4 cell is about 12" in front of the rudder post inside on the fuse bottom. No wheel pants, but using spinner.

i dont know if you guys have made this change or not but putting the tank on the cg turned this plane into a whole new animal, i changed it after the first maidens...with the tank in the nose even balanced at behind 6" she wanted to nose over...i would reccomend the pt prop the finish is not quite as nice as the mejzlik but its a little quieter but it doesnt come balanced...

some people have done it under the wing tube i did mine on top. i had a problem with my wing bolts not tightening so i glued the bolt ,cut the heads off and got threaded spacers with cotter pin to hold the wings on much better now built the tray with 1/2 inch balsa then pinned then from the outside...pictures were midway through but youll get the idea..she balances perfect now full tank or empty...and you can hover or knife edge at low altitude and see how much gas you got left....

Very cool, great pics. The access to the wing retainers was my main question. I always have preferred a tank on CG....may have to mod this one to copy yours. Thanks!

if you do it under you have to cut away some of the landing gear area i wasnt into that...i just cut that small top brace wich was basically replaced by the piece of balsa..also under the tank is a piece of bass wood between the balsa strips

i would say the only drawback is you have to unstrap the tank and slide it forward before and after to get the wing nuts on but it only takes a second...glad to return the favor you helped me alot on the qq build
