I have the KMP 300L, It says the total weight on the box is 91.7 oz, and intend on getting the FS 52 Surpass 4 stroke, would I be able to hover on this?
Thanks for the help,
Jack

I would recommend a Saito(or OS) size .82. The Saito will be the bower to weight to ratio and the .82 will launch a 7 lb plane vertical, like a rocket. A Saito .72 will do it as well but not fly towards th moon in a matter of seconds. The Saito .82 weighs only 16 oz and will swing a 15x6 to 12,000 RPM's!

At just under 6 lbs you can hang her on a SA72, of course the 82 would be even more fun. If you want to run something cheap maybe something like the ASP52 2C, that can turn a 13x4 at about 12,500 RPM. Should hang a plane of about 5.75 lbs but not with an impressive punch out.
Octane - you got a SA82 to turn a 15x6 at 12K? What fuel did you use?

Even if you are very good at hovering I don't think the Surpass will cut it. If you are a novice you are looking at frustration. I like an engine/prop that delivers 10 lbs thrust on a 6 lb 3d plane.
Octanehuffer,
A Saito 72 on its best day may barely hover a 7 lb plane but I doubt it. And pull out with an 82 is nothing like a rocket. More like a Piper Cub climb out on a hot day at 5000'.

A 15x6 is above the reccomended propeller range on that engine. The benchmark prop was an APC 13x8 so I would imagine that prop (13x8) would hunt around 10,500 or so.
Nice try though
Maybe huffing all that octane has gone to your head

I try to be nice to ask what fuel is being used ... hehehehe ... I think only a YS110 would turn a 15x6 to 12,000 RPM. A SA82 turning at 12K will not last very long for sure and the it should be way out of the power curve.

The reason I chose the Surpass was because I wanted 4 stroke power, but not break my budget... much like the saito 72, or 82 would, I know its $40 extra, but as it is I am pushing it...

I would pit my .91FX on ultra-thust on 15% against the YS110 on 30% with an APC 15x6. My OSFX.91 turns an APC 15x6 just over 10,000 on 15% and stock muffler(baffle removed) or pitts. With an ultra-thust it will spin it in the mid 11's--huge difference in power on a large 10 pound plane.
For reference my OS108 turns the 15x6apc in the mid 10's and my SA100 turns it in the mid 9's on 15%.
