Default Which one would YOU choose?

I have the choice between a SIG MAYHEM 3D and a PHOENIX FUNSTAR 3D.
I also have a spare OS46AX engine that I will install on that plane.

Which one would you recommend, and why?
This will be my third plane and the first 3D.... so basically I will learn all the 3D trick on it

Not sure that you have enough motor for serios 3D in the Mayhem. I like the Mayhem and they seem to fly very well, I just think that you would be much happier with the plane with a Saito 72 in it.
Cant comment on the Phoenix because I have never seen one fly.
Just my 2 cents.

The 46AX with an 11x5 prop is more than enough for the Funstar ... its a nice plane to fly. The plane is also very easy to build with no real issues, only issue is use the wood blocks to guide the throttle push rod properly so that the wing does not push against it. If you want to really enjoy 3D why not try a profile, they are lighter and 3D a lot better than a plane with a full fuse.

I'm a big fan of the mayhem just because as far as a 3-D plane goes it's as tough as they come. But I agree with Rush7 I'm sure how 3-D the plane will be with a .46

If your serious about learning 3D your gonna crash alot. Get a plane that will take it.

Mojo's Bounce. Others break.

I am not going to buy a new engine for now not much money :P
So it seems I will just get the funstar! I am not looking for pure 100% 3D, but would learn some tricks every now and then...

I will in fact install an 11x5 or 12x4 on it

I've had Both planes and had a 46AX in both.
The Funstar definitely performs better than the Mayhem with that engine. (The Mayhem is a better plane though - (it just needs more power like a Saito 82, YS 63, OS55AX - Jett 61H )
Go for the Funstar with the 12/4 prop and you won't be dissapointed.
The MoJo is an even better choice though if you are serious about 3d and the 46AX suits them very well.

yep, I like it alot my first one I had had a 46ax and i liked it alot until I had am midair. It had plenty of vert and pretty quick for a 3D plane. Its probably one of the easiest planes to put together. You dont even need to drill any holes! It comes with the control surfaces prehinged and motor mount preinstalled. One issue with this plane is that it is really impossible to tell if the plane is upside down or right side up. To fix that I put some red and blue triangles on the wings.

P.S. If knife edge is your favorite "trick" than just to let you know this plane cant do it it has really bad coupling towards the canopy. It hovers well, torque rolls even better, flat spin is good with a little power to keep the nose up, inverted flat spin havent tried yet, harrier a little rocky, inverted harrier much better, waterfall is so so, and blenders are real fun, and stall turns, hammer heads imelmans, cuban eights and lomcevaks(did i spell that right? are cool.

Thanks TONY!!!!!!!!

I just bought it yesturday, checking all the parts and catalogue, this thing is really easy to assemble
But, REALLY Easy hehehe

Just wondering if it is worth putting high torque or digital servos on these huge surfaces... I am sticking to standard servos for now, but could be an option later on.
What are you using?

I am a beginner in the 3D realms, but a good flye overall
I will try to perfom all these tricks you metion and check for myself.
Do you keep the recommended travel range for the surfaces, or you have a different setting you don't mind to share?
I am planning on lots of exponential first to see how handles, and then moves from there...

Once again, thanks for your input. I feel very confident about this plane already.
I guess I will only need to seal the gaps for flutter (out of safety?!) and then carefully check the C.G.
Do you place your C.G. at the factory recommended range?

fadi81 i am using digitals on ailerons and elevator and hi torque on rudder. I would change the hardware it comes with. I put 4-40 rods on mine with metal clevises. its kind of weird there is two different funstars almost identical, do you have one with a blue pilot or a green pilot?. the blue one is a little longer and the green one is a little shorter but only by 1-2 inches. Check all the hinges that they are in for good, it doesnt bother dropping some thin CA in the hinges. After you put the CA you need to work the control surfaces because they are going to be stiff from the glue. My CG is at about 4.8inches back from LE. I like it AFT but for your first flights it should be from 4 inches to 4.5 inches. On high rates i have it as much as they can go (140%) on my 7CAP and around 70% on low rates. Props that work good on this plane are 12.25x3.75 and 12x4.

P.S. change your main wheels and tail wheel there crap. also put CA on the wheel collars because they vibrate very easy. On my maiden i lost both wheels!n Dont forget to put some color on the plane to tell the difference of up and down. Ive assebled two of these planes so if you run into trouble anywhere shoot me a PM.

Hope this helps
