Default The build continues...

Squeezed in another hour and a bit tonight (girlfriend was washing her hair :stupid: ). Now finished the rudder, fin and stab. Still need to be sanded and beveled, and have the hinge slots cut. Shouldn't take long.

Not a huge amount to say. The rudder comes out very stiff like the elevators. Weight of all is 63g (about 2.25 oz).

I am surprised that the fin and stab are sheet and not built up, not a problem, just a surprise. I do recomend putting on the cross grain capping as suggested in the instructions/plan. I noted that the fin could bend quite a bit. Fine once the capping in place though.

I'll try to post the photos when I get a chance.

Need to go now, girlfriend wants to look at holidays (RC Hotel, Corfu perhaps )

It was designed for flying "NOT" crashing!!!

Doubt much would survive!!

Phil Vandries wing survived when it left the fuzz at 50 mph on knife edge though

Where do you know Jeff from Archie?
The count down to flying has begun! I will probably be back at 3 or four pm with my flight report and hopefully a couple of in-flight pics!

breaking the front of the fuz around the lighting holes when you really screw up a harrier was one wasn't it?

talking of harriers, i was doing them the other day in zero wind. i was on about a 45 degree decent angle and couldn't go straight down. is this normal for no wind or do i need more elevator?

It Flies!
I am really pleased with the Capiche 50.
The Saito 72 hauls it skywards like a rocket!
Even though i am not at all comfortable 3Ding it yet because i am unfamilliar with it, it is very precise in rolls, and knife edge is fantastic!
Mine will do 45 degree descents in knife edge!Thats almost a knife edge elevator! It needs a liitle bit of coupling- when doing knife edge using right rudder you need a bit of right aileron and down elevator, but mine wont yet fly dead straight like The Boys Capiche yet.

Archie's comments about it being slightly more unstable than a 3D funfly in the hover are bang on.

Once i get used to this, and get the setup right, its going to be a briliant performer.

I havent got any low knife edge pics because i didnt feel comfortable bringing it down low yet. It will do a very good Knife Edge vertical eight.

The very light wing is perfect for snap rolls- the wing stops moving round instantly when you centralise the sticks.
Blenders on 3D rates are absolutely mental!

It didnt want to harrier though(it was rocking its wing quite badly)- I had 40 degrees movement on the elevator with the CofG at 130-135mm back.
Maybe i need more elevator movement.

Need to tune the Saito 72 though. The idle at the moment is too high(3500 to 4000 rpm)- it will quite happily cruise around at this idle speed. Looks like i might have to do deadstick landings at the comp tommorrow.
So far though, what a class plane!
Luke

I think it just needs more running. If i turn the idle needle in too much it makes the idle performance worse.
Current Tachometer readings:
Full power with a 13x6 APC: 9800 rpm

Idle rpm 2800rpm at the moment.

Default What a flight

I have to say I was very impressed seeing both Luke fly, and Luke fly the Capiche.

Only a minute into his maiden and he was doing rolling circles.

Very nice plane being flown very well. As Luke says, the high alpha knife edge descent looked stunning. All were impressed at my club, glad to have been able to see it fly.

Can't wait to finish mine.

Well done luke

and well done on your efforts on Sunday albeit they got somewhat curtailed...

I would have posted before now but been trying to tweak the pc following the new rcu !

I trust you will be entering your C50 pics for the competition ? Not sure how many spaces are left...

Shame a big chunk of posts disappeared...

Our local club has a Concours DExcellence night tonight... sort of a best finished model type a thing, so I think I will put my 50e in since it aint done much work....

Took some movies of my C50 last week... just gotta figure out how to get it from tape to pc now !!!

Ahhh technology !

im noticing hot topics that haven't been touched for a while, hopefuly that means the missing pages are being transfered.

your saving a space for me arn't ya? the trouble with mates doing favours for you is you can't moan when they don't get on with it. meanwhile i'm flying a boring white Capiche when i could be entering the comp and flying a great looking one.
i told them i needed them asap coz of the comp too. if its not done tonight i'm gonna go down the local graphics shop with the rest of my solarfilm

Default Email sent

I have sent an email to Marc at RCUAdmin, so no need to bombard him with emails.

Not much to report on the build, working too hard at the office.

Default Archies lost it

I think he is talking about his clubs concourse D'elegance thingy.

I'm thinking that perhaps Cloud Capiche Land is a bit to high and he is suffering altitude sickness.
