Getting fuel through the YS110 when starting for the first time...

When I try to start up the YS110 on my UCD60 for the first time (if I haven't flown for a few days) it takes about a minute of turning the engine over before the fuel starts to go through the engine. At that point I stop turning the engine over, attach the glow plug, flick it over once and it starts straight away.
Does anyone know why it takes so long for the fuel to start going through the engine? It almost seems like the fuel is congealing in the carb or something and it's taking a while to flush it through!?!?!?

If I do that its still dry and won't start, I have to wait for the fuel to come through which can take over a minute.!

I open the throttle and run it (without glow stick) for a count of 15. Hit the glow stick and she starts right up. My guess is your regulator isn't open quite enough. Open it to 3 turns from fully closed and the engine will run better and start easier. Especially if you've been having any deadsticks.Thanks

Never had a dead stick, never had a problem with this engine since I bought it 9 months ago. People say it's not a good first time four stroke engine but it's my first 4 stroke engine and I have never had a problem with it (except having to turn the engine over without the glow stick in for over a minute sometimes to get the fuel through, which is not really a problem but just an inconvenience when first starting her up).
Will try the regulator but it runs so well when it's going that I don't want to ruin it.

I have 3 YS engines and they all take a bit of spinning to get the fuel to the carb ( but not 60 secs. ). You have to pressurize the tank in order to push fuel to the carb in a YS. If there is any kind of leakage in the system or if the check valve is not holding 100% it may take longer than usual.

Pressure does hold in the tank. Never stopped me from flying and more an observation than a problem.

I just posted on the YS club thread about my problem. It just occured to me, do any of you use ty wraps on your fittings? I do and I did have concerns about them actually squeezing the tubing out of shape causing leaks. I don't see any fuel in the plane though.

for first starts, I,open the high 5 turns ,open throttle, crank with no glow for 10 or 15 sec, close throttle,put high back at 1.5 turns, aply glow driver and giver h e ll

b toby - Good tip. That's what I have been doing, winding out the top end, when I start cranking the engine over I can hear when the fuel starts to enter the engine, then turn back to normal setting, attach the glow plug, crank over and it starts first time.
suitcase - The wraps issue is a thought, I don't have leaks in the fuel system and pressure holds untill I disconnect the t's from the dots!!! But maybe a wrap or a kink in the fuel line is restricting the flow, don't think so but will have a look.

another way to pressurize the tank before flipping the prop is to pump a little more fuel into the tank with the vent line closed.... just be sure your fittings are tight on the tubing...when fueling leave the vent plug off until you see fuel coming out then plug the vent, and then pump a little more fuel into the tank, before you take the fueler nipple out of the tubing be sure to pinch it then plug it.
It's hard to say how many seconds of fueling to put in with the vent closed but with my electric pump it was only 2-3 seconds and with a hand pump it was about 6-7 extra pumps I believe.
When I do that method it only takes about 5-6 flips of the prop with WOT then idle and put the glow on and it usually starts right up.

I just follow the instructions on my 110.
full throttle (glow off) six turns
put glow on and away she goes even after a lay-off.
you may have a blockage somewhere.

I use hemostats to clamp shut the fuel line after fueling . I've plugged the pressure line. Then I take a small hand pump (retract pump, football pump etc will work) and put a couple of psi into the tank via the fuel line. Plug the line, remove the clamps. Voila !!
