3D beginner type plane with requirments :)
Hi all,
Okey Dokey, I have been flying a while now, I started with the proverbial trainer, went with a foamie as second plane, then a leccy 60" Piper Cub, then a .60 Hellcat and a very nice Sundowner. I now only fly the Hangar 9 built Hellcat and the Sundowner, an awesome, beautiful plane.
It's my Birthday and 'her indoors' says I can buy a plane
I want to try mild 3D, nothing heavy, I don't want to even contemplate mad stuff that you guys do but I want a nice looking 50 to 60 size plane. This plane must look the part, it must be stable.
3D planes can be inherently unstable, I understand it's the nature of these beasts but it's a requirement for our very small landing area that I'll have to use from now on, we've lost some of our field to the Government 'Set aside' so it must land SLOW and STABLE.
Another requirement is it must have an enclosed cowl for the engine, I really hate open cowls.
So that's about it, what can you guys come up with please?
I can put from a .70 to a 1.00 4 stroke in. No 2 strokes

Looks beautiful, but a bit big at 13 lb's +
Thanks for taking the time.
Actually a decent Sport plane or Pattern type plane would also be suitable. Maybe even more suitable.

Wow Not sure where you got that number [&:]
Kinda had me worried so i went and checked mine
This plane as a 6volt 2700 mah bettery os .91 fs nothing was done to save oz anywhere so im sure you could get it lighter than this with little effort (and also remove the alum. spinner )

Your link pointed to it
I guess that's one of those auto links then...
I'll re-investigate.
Thanks again!
*EDIT*
OK, now we're on the same page. Nice plane but it seems I can't get it in the UK...

There's all the plane you'll need. It flies great with a .91 4 stroke, light, slow when you want it to be, easy to learn hovers and HAKE. For what it is, it's an awesome "3D trainer".

The Fliton Edge flies nicely, but it has a flimsy engine mount box. Never got around to trying 3-D with mine.

See, that's 2 great planes.
Thanks for the Alshobby link v8mini.
I did initially look at the u-can-do 60 but I hear the firewall needs work as it has no thrust off-set built into it, or is that the older models?
I'm edging toward one of these for sure.
Thanks guys, very helpful.

The Funtana X with an .82 engine is pretty nice at most 3d. It hovers and flat spins well. You can fly it real slow with the thick wing.
The Showtime 50 with either an .82 or 1.0 is also good for some 3d.
I flew both these planes until I tried a profile. If you can get over the looks, a profile 3d plane is the way to go. Everything is easier because of the light weight. I fly the Extreme Flight Chin Yak and absolutely love it. It is 100% better than the Funtana or Showtime for 3D.

Dont know if you would think about a profile but they are the best starting point for 3d. I just finished my first its a moass mojo available from http://www.swanyshouse.com/index.aspx . I now they (profiles) dont look the best but if you put that aside they are the best. they fly with ease land at a snail pace and when you want it to it will 3d all day long. turn the throws back some and the 60 is a big trainer and great for learning on. and when it comes to learning 3d down low they are strong and will put up with plenty of knocks. I found mine to be very stable and was comfortable to bring it low in hover on only the 3rd flight and its my first gas 3d plane. here is a link to mine flying http://youtube.com/watch?v=_72htxZxhh0
