I have a Saito 1.25 4-stroke that needs a new home. I'd like a scale aerobatic model like an Extra, Edge, Yak, etc where this engine will have ample authority - ie, lots of fun! I'd also prefer that the ARF be pretty straight forward as I'm not the most experienced builder and don't have a lot of build/assembly time. Any suggestions?

The Wildhare looks nice but 10lbs is to much to 3D a 1.25. The Funtana is a better choice of those two. Look at the QQ or have you thought about a profile?

R/C Foolish,
How much does your Frenzy weigh with the Saito 1.25 in it? The specs say 6-9 lbs which is quite a range. What fuel do you use? I'm searching different threads and am finding that:
a) fuel (Nitro percent and brand) seems to make a big difference in performance in the Saitos.
b) I'm also hearing that this engine is best for really nice 3D in the 7-8lb range. I had it in a 9lb pattern plane running 30% in a local brand fuel and while better than 10%, I still wasn't impressed with the power - and I wasn't even trying 3D.
Thanks,
Alan

Not sure of the weight, sorry. It does not seem heavy but that is not much help. I run 30% Heli Cool Power in all of my Saito's. They love the extra nitro and I have tried other local brands and all of the usual problems went away when I switched to the Cool Power. I use 15% in my 2 strokes.

I am running it in a Quique 69" Yak. Under 8 lbs it flies very well. Better than any H9 would dream of flying. I have Funtana's too. The Saito was running a 16x4W and the prop was ripping so I have just switched to a 16x6. Not yet flown with the new prop, but it will be perfect.

R/C Foolish: That makes sense. I have heard others say the same thing about switching to Cool Power 30%. Looks like I'll have to do that, too.
octanehuffer: I looked at the QQ 69" Yak and liked the light weight. Glad to hear it can be under 8 lbs with the 1.25. I'm sure it can fly pattern/IMAC fine, but are you also saying it has lots of power for great 3D? I don't like sluggish flying... Too bad the QQ is so expensive! Is there a way to get a discount??

The Quique Yaks will allow you to compete and win in both IMAC and 3D. In the same flight if it were possible. I usually fly IMAC right at takeoff for about 1/2 tank, flip a couple of switches and do anything 3D till empty. It hovers at 1/2 throttle with a very good pull out. The plane costs more than the rest, but if you are comparing based on price, you would already have a Funtana by now. And it wouldnt fly like a Quique Yak either.
Here are a couple of shots hovering with a Quique Python. One is of high alpha knife edge from a hover.
Buy it!!!

Rajul,
The test plane in their video shows that the OS120 is 8.5 lbs. When you look at the difference in weight between that engine and the Saito 1.25, it should come out to 8 lbs 3oz. It'll be interesting to see if octanehuffer did anything else other than maybe a lighter battery, spinner, etc.

The only thing not used was the wheel pants. I have a spinner nut on the end of the crankshaft. 2200 mAh Li-po pack. I dont think I used anything special on this one.

Hi Alan, in the QQ video, the weight was stated as 8lb 13oz. That was with the 120AX. The weight difference between the 120AX and FA125 (both with muffler) is 29.9-24.8=5.1oz. Therefore the same plane setup with a FA125 should work out to be around 8.5lb, and with some weight savings to bring it down to close to 8lb

My 69" QQ yak came in at 7lb 14oz. I removed wheelpants, no spinner just an aluminum spinner nut, OS 1.20 AX with Bisson pitts.
Mini servo for throttle, no side force generators. The Yak in the video was one the very first models, I think the production models are lighter.
Fly's excellent, I won the first Pattern competition of the season with mine in the sportsman class.

I also have the Fenzy 100 with the 125. Fella's there is no lack of power at all. It will go vertical as long as you can still see it. Hovers at 1/4 to 1/3 throttle and pulls out hard and fast. I wrecked my first but flew it with the CG at 4 1/2" since they moved the CG to 6". Ran with the battery in front of wing tube and now run it behind wing tube. Put it up and was hands off true without touching a trim switch. It weighs 7-8lbs. With the 125 there is no way you could want anymore power for it. The 125 flys this plane as if it were made for it only. Also great flying no wing rock tendencies on takeoffs of landings. It wing rocks some on trying to harrier but that is with just about any plane. For me it is my best flying plane and just easy on the nerves. I had a brain fart was the reason for my crash was fling into 15-20mph wind about as slow as i could and turned with the wind and just did not pick up the throttle and it had no speed. My fault as the plane was doing what it is designed to do. But you have to have SOME speed lol. Not wind faster than the plane is going lol. I run DS821's elev
126mg's on rudd and ail, throttle
Run on low rates most times set to specs.
High rates are unreal and run all I can get.
Landing gear is ok not the best but ok
wing rock minimul under most cond.
Very good looking plane better than the ads make it look
long lean flying machine lol.
