I am new to 3D and am wondering whether some of you guys can shed some light of some questions I have, with regards the use of flaps.
1) From what I can make out the majority refer to “flaps” which go down as Flaps or flapperons, and “flaps” that go up as spoilerons (not sure about this one). Is this a fair assumption? or what should I be referring to them as?
2) I have a plane like a profile seduction, (extra slim) what would you expect the aircraft to do when I enter in a small amount of flap (down!)??. And what would I expect to see if I put flap (up)??. Which one do you guys use?
3) Do you guys use a mix, so that when you use flap, the elevator is automatically trimmed?
4) What is the best use of the “flaps”, take offs, landings, maneuvers??
5) My TX allows a mix, whereby when I turn the flaps on I can dial in some elevator to trim. The TX has 3 settings on the switch though and only allows for flaps in one direction, which is down. What trim do you expect I will need with a little down flap?
Sorry to ask such a lot, I would be grateful of any polite responses. I am due to try and work things out by trial and error but with direction from the experts, the learning experience will I’m sure prove more enjoyable.

Mix up aileron with up elevator (and down with down) to:
1) make the plane "flip around itself" ie waterfall, KE spin
2) damp wing rock in elevator, maybe harrier
Use plain flaps ie down aileron to:
Lower stall speed when landing or taking off
It doesn't matter how you mix it. For example I can use plain old flaps (down ailerons) for waterfalls because the ailerons go down and I push the elevator down so I have down/down but I prefer the mixes above.
All planes react differently so it's a lot of trial and error.
