Got some unusually warm weather here for the last week or so. I was able to get to a different field than I usually fly and get some flying in. First flights of the year. And a full 7 weeks earlier than I was able to fly last year. I took the 46. I just had a great time. I've been flying my bigger stuff lately but it was nice to fly this beauty again. Helps me to remember why I love this plane so much. I was throwing it around almost to the point of reckless. But she held up and I had a wonderful afternoon. Thanks

I don't know what happen with your plane but I'm using Saito82 with a 14x4W and it's a good match, and you are correct that plane is not made for speed but if you were using a 14x4 I don't think there is enough speed to explode a wing except if you dive at full throttle??

Stefan, I'm on my second "Do" 46, Loads of time on them, engine ranges YS-63, on
up to S-100, "Do" # 2 has the S-82.. Props up to 16X4W Both have been through the
mill so to speak.. with no problems.. Hard to tell what caused your problem, But it is
not the norm for the "Do".... She's a "Fun" plane... Good luck on your 60 "Do"

Ordered my u can do 46 today I just received my saito 82 Looking forward to this project. I will be using a futaba 6exas with s-3151 didital servos I hope these will work. After reading many threads I plan on getting other accesories for strength. I was wondering if the kits now are stronger in the landing gear, and the stabilizer area. Thanks for all the good input I wish I could read faster.

I don't think the kits have changed any. The landing gear is probably still the weakest point. However, I don't reinforce mine any more mostly because I'm a better lander. This plane will land so lightly it isn't even funny. I'm just careful when I land it. But when you do break it out...that's the time to reinforce it.I think you'll have a great time with this plane. Any questions...ask away. There isn't a better group of people in RC than right here on the ol' UCD thread.
Stick around long enough and you might even hear a story or two.
Thanks
Barry

One thing you probably want to do is upgrade the pushrods. I use carbon fiber from Central Hobbies. Some use 4/40 rod...but the factory stuff is too light. Thanks

No,
IT'S NOT TOOOO MUCH!!!!
I fly my UcD 46 with my OS 91FX and Zinger 15x4 prop.!
Hover is actually taking place at 1/2throttle!
The only problem i encounter is on knife edge!
I am a bit tail heavy.
My plane wants too roll when i try to apply rudder on knife!
Do you have any solution?
Maybe my rudder movement is too much?

I got my new ucd 60 now and it look´s great. Much more stable I think. I think the pushrods is to thin. I will do new of carbon fiber. If anywone own a 60 sized ucd? Tell me if it´s work god and if you have done some changes on the plane. I think I will stabilize some in the tail.

the 60 is just a little slower on manuvers and just a little more relaxing close to the ground to me.
i would go with what Barry said and use carbon fiber pushrods from central hobbies(link below)
if you are a good lander then dont worry about the LG reinforcements untill you break them out, they will break clean when it happens

on the 60 size you can mount the engine inverted but the carb will be lower than the tank so the best solution for the offset will be a cline regulator(link below) or you can mount the engine for trouble free operation sideways, mine runs the best this way.
i also would use some dubro pinned hinges because ive had problems with the CA hinges.
if you do use a cline regulator then its a good time to try the tank over CG(pic below)

Those are excellent pictures, and references for me to use. I have flown alot of sport, pattern, but this will be my first 3D. Reading all these threads gets me excited to fly this plane
