dougwill...no, the UCD should not require a lot of down elevator to fly inverted. Maybe just a slight movement on the down stick or even none at all. I don't know what you mean about the alireron adjustment!?!?!? To me it means your CG is not quite far enough back. You can set it anywhere between 4 and 6 inches and still land fine. Mine is at about 5 5/8". I have to give slight down elevator to maintain level flight when I'm upside down. I use Cool Power 30% in all my engines. The Saitos and YS really thrive on it. No it will not hurt them. In fact the Heli mix I use has 22% oil vs. 18% on regular mix. This actually helps in engine wear. You'll notice a marked difference in power. That little baby will really come alive. I think I get longer run times with 30% also. So even though it's a little more money you don't use it quite as fast. In effect this is what Gjeffers is doing by adding a little castrol oil. Better luberication. I would use the 30%. That's the only way you'll get full performance out of your UCD with an 80.
Keep flying that thing. The fun is just beginning.
Thanks
Barry

CeeGee... Nice Katana.... Does she fly nice? I wondered if I'd like them
before I got mine(profile)... But I like flying mine and they do take more abuse
while going for the tail
I have been looking at getting another....
Gary... 81's are good, but I read that some had some problems??? So I have
85mg... No problems to date... and they do get used a lot

dougwill.... That's great that you had a good maiden
... They are fun planes!
I had my CG back a bit, and she flew great inverted, just needed a slight push
every now and then for level flight...
If your ail. are "both" on the up side of the wing, that would had a bigger trimming
effect... I heard the that they should be set even or just slightly on the down side

Rob, william Robison told me that if you run all syn that you should mix in at least 3oz in to each gallon, ive been running powermaster 15%(has 9% in it) because i have no need for the extra power of 30[X(][X(] but when i do have to buy it(limited choice) i put in 3oz bottle from the store. have no noises from engine like i had before when bearings thought they were at the opera
Ron, i will change my mind from the 81 to 85, thanks
opps, how that get there??

Gary, Thanks for the info. I use Powermaster 15% and it's 18% oil (synthetic, castor) I had some store credit at the LHS and among other things I got some castor. I haven't used it yet.
You must be amazingly talented...... You can fly inverted 3ft. off the runway and take a picture at the same time....[X(][X(]...[>:] Isn't that a daisy.....[&o]

But yeah, it flies really good. I swapped out the landing gear that came with it, too soft. And I changed out the tires/wheels since they were too small for the grass runway we have here. It's a hoot though. I finally got the OS 46 set up right so it's consistent now and I can just fly around without it deadsticking. There is a guy on Ebay that has been selling them for about 1/2 price of what OMP sells them for. I'm thinking of getting another 40 or maybe even a 70.....[X(] Can you upload a picture of your profile again. I'd like to see it again.....

Hey Gary... No I have not heard of them... I can ask around and see, I'll post
if I hear anything... That said... Our club was invited to a private airport(Eagle)
to fly along with other things going on about a year ago.. Anyway this person
from Havasu brought "His" 540.... It looked like your pic... Not saying it's the
same plane.... I asked him where he got it, and he replied that it was "their"
proto type and that he and a few others where going in to market if all things
fell in place.. That could be the outfit??? He did not put it through it's paces.. So
I can't say anything about it.. except it looked to be a well put together model.
Anyway, as far as I know Havasu just closed it's only RC... "Airplane" hobby
shop As was reported from our last club meeting.. I know, If your not in any
rush I can contact that person once I get back home (still in Vegas) and see
what he has to say.. He came to our last meeting to invite us to Eagle field
airport to fly(along with lunch) at his grand opening of his hobby shop... That
was/is Today.. But I'm in vegas...So I did not make it... Anyway I'll call when
I get back... If I remember correctly he said that the person that owned the
hobby shop that closed was going in with a group to market something??
Anyway I'll let you know what he said...
Gary... Just looked above... Tell me that is not the only reported "Do-46-100"
If it is.... Man Sorry!!!! But man I'll be the only "Speed Nut" now... Sorry Guy!!

gjefffers...Man, even though you said not to...I'm sorry. I've been there. Even if you had many flights it's still sad. Hope you're going to replace it. Looks like engine and radio gear ok? Another inverted flat spin landing? Wow... Sorry man. Thanks

Ceegee, i have my 46 in an Avistar and was thinking about taking it out for a Profile. Sounds line that Katana is a good deal, have been watching them on ebay like you said.
So I finally got my Magnum 91 running like it should. A small change on the low end and a new glow plug. Took off in 10 feet. Had so much power i figured what the hell and started a hover at about 30 feet. Was my best hover yet, felt like 2 minutes atleast. Which means in real time I think it was about 30 seconds. I have a few issues to work out but man I LOVE THIS PLANE. The bigger engine even made it easier to land. I love working on hovers now that I know i have the power to pull out. I still cant get the damn thing to flat spin, but I dont really know what i am doing.
This plane was fun with an os 46, it is AWESOME with the 91.
NI think i lost my landing gear 3-4 times from dead sticks while breaking the engine in. I am going to rebuild the block and the wall to teh servo compartment so I can sterngthen it, probably use some of those all thread screws.

OK, now that the plane is flying great, i have had a little problem since i put on the magnum. I have it balanced at 5 1/2 inches, but i need about 4-5 clicks of up elevetor on the trim from neutral to fly level. even though my cg seems good and it harries in tail low on landings, floats real well. I was thinking about trying to add a littl up angle to the engine to see if it helps. Any thoughts.
Also I think one of my elevetor servos seems weeker than the other. it has a tendency to roll out wheneve i pull hard on the elevetor. Kind of looks like one of the elevators doesnt kick in as far. Travel is the same on the ground.

Yeah Gary... I looked at the site the first time... I tried to find a date of it, but
I did not notice any.... This place could have been there forever????.. But I
don't think so... I've been to Havasu to get some parts.. Which was to the H.S.
that was closed, per the advise from the old timers here...... And as far as I
know... It was the Only "airplane" hobby shop... I maybe wrong... And I'm
not saying anything about that outfit... I just have not heard of them as yet..
As I said I'll ask and I'll also call that number to get more info... I'll let you
know what I hear if any....
sctcrash... I did not recall if mine did it before my fuse break(roll out with full
elev.)... But mine did do the same after my repair.... I thought it was just me
or my fix:-(..... I just cut my rates down some which helped, but did not
eliminate....

Gary, You got a lot of flying out of that 46. WoW [X(] Sorry about the crash. Probably just fatigued after so many flights.
As far as an edge, here is one you might want to consider - [link]http://www.vectorflight.com/Edge540ARF(66inchWS).html[/link] From what I have read on the forums about Vector Flight they are one of the best. I guess it can take about 3 - 4 weeks to get one but I have read that they are superb, outstanding quality and a heck of lot less expensive. I don't know about sky shark. I haven't heard much about them.
sctcrash, Yeah the Katana is blast to fly and I'd have to say that after having flown and crashed 2 Twists I definately like the Katana better and the 46 is plenty of power for it. I put a set of Tetherite gear on it because the stock aluminum stuff is way to soft. The stock tires/wheels are too small too if you are going to be flying off of grass. Anyway, very fun plane........[X(]

Gary 300 flights. Thats more than I have on 4 planes combined. Glad your up and flying already. Is the 60 similar to 46 in how it flies? Exactly how high is 2 mistakes high.
Rob Katana 40 or 70 size? I have a 70 that I got off Ebay. Not started yet. Sure love UCD so far. Where did you get the Tetherite gear?

Dougwill, I have the Katana 40 size and have to say that yesterday was my day of flying. Man I had fun!! What a kick!
Oh, I got the tetherite LG set from Ohio Model Planes. Here's the link - [link]http://ohiomodelplanes.com/tetherite/[/link]
I flew the Katana once and then got out the UCD but the Do really didn't seem to fly the same as it usually does. It just seemed to be acting funny and not as easy to control as usuall so I set it aside and flew the Katana most of the day. Later I was talking to a more experienced guy about the Do and how it was acting and he said that the Futaba 3004 servos that I have been using for the elevators had probably stripped a gear or tooth or something. That sounds pretty likely. Yikes! [X(] I might have lost my plane if I had kept flying it..... [:-]
But that Katana profile.......[X(] Boy is that ever fun to fly. I can do lots of stuff with it. I set it down on the grass after one of the flights and next thing I know I had about 5 guys standing over it looking at it and asking questions. Very fun... not as fun as the Do of course, but very fun.
