Look what I found today.... I spend Wayyy to much time looking at planes....but anyway...
Pilot RC will be releasing 73" Extra and Yak. Here is the Pic of the extras"taste the rainbow!!!!"
Anyone have experience with Pilot RC product? Any good. Positives/Negatives?
Stating fly weight at 10.47lbs.....so lets say 11lbs. Would a DLE 30 give it enough punch for 3D and hover pullout?
More pics and specs can be seen here:
EXTRA
http://www.chiefaircraft.com/rcmsec/...C/Extra26.html
YaK:
http://www.chiefaircraft.com/rcmsec/...tRC/YAK26.html
Doesnt state what the servo requirement would be. Any ideas?

Pilot-RC is really good brand and also you can order your custom scheme. But if you want a complete combo for a DLE30 an Extra, you should consider algo de Edge and Extra from Tom at Wildharerc.com he offers a complete combo with servos, hardware, etc for about $850.

You dont need more than 180 oz on that airplane....... most of the elevators, ailerons will require about 140, just the rudder will need more. Im thinking to get a 30cc gasser to have fun and practice 3D so i will get some HD servos, DLE30.

Ive looked at wild hare... Flyers seem to be very happy with what they get for the money and performance. Im just weighing my options before making the jump. There are a few 1.20 size planes that are to be released withing the next few months which I'd like to consider. On my list which are being considered so far are:
Pilot RC 73" Extra (ive heard they are well built...and whats nice is you get a ton of carbon parts included - spinner, Landing gear etc>)
Wild Hare RC Baby Edge/Extra
Extreme Flight 78" Extra 300 (To be released)
Aero-Works 1.20 Edge 540 (To be released)
3D Hobby Shop 68" Velox ( Dont really know much about Velox characteristics.)
I had considered the AW 1.20 yak, but read it wasnt that great for 3D. Also looked at the Great Planes performance series...but too heavy wing loading.

Yeah well a month is too long for me too. However with the weather turning here, and this being my largest RC purchase so far....I'd rather be patient, gather as much info as I can get and get it right.
Interesting on the AW Yak. Maybe the flier im speaking of didnt have the right set up. Do you have experiece with the Yak? If so what engine were you running?

It would make sense wouldnt it, considering the small price difference. However at the moment I cant transport a 50CC due to the size. I still have another 16 months left on my lease. Damn sporty coupes!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr-

If I were you I would also go 50cc. Think about it, if you get a 30cc, a couple months later you might want to go bigger. So why not just make the jump. I too have the same problem with transport, thats why Im sticking to small profiles right now. You should get one too, you wont be disappointed. Especially if you want to learn 3D. I guarantee you it will be alot easier and safer on the plane to get a profile to learn 3D. I thought when I was getting the Aeroworks Edge 540 I would be able to learn 3D, but that plane is just not suited for it, not light enough.
Also to get back on subject, I too really like the Pilot RC planes. For the price and what you get its hard to beat. And as from this video these planes are very very capable at all types of flying. [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4eSjKB7H2w[/link]

You've got the 46AX right?? Then you can definitely use that engine on the OMP Pro Yak, its got enough power to get you going. And the Saito 91 might be overkill on power, but its still light enough to not make your plane a lead sled. Just run a 15x4 with it and will be golden. So you could use either of those engines. A profile is definitely the doorway to 3D.

What servos are you using? Do you think they are ideal?

I have greatly improved my 3D skills. When I first started off trying to learn 3D I started on the simulator. I thought i would never be able to hover since I couldnt hold the plane steady. I didnt like the sim too much so I got a profile and started from there. At first I couldnt hover at all. Then I learned how to control the plane and keep it in a steady hovered position, way up high. Then I slowly got better and also slowly got lower to the ground. The learning curve is sooooo much better on a profile than on a full scale plane. With a full scale u usually dont have the same weight to power ratio and larger wing area than with a profile. And those are major things needed to be successful at 3D unless you are a pro then you can hover anything. I use cheap standard Hitec servos, $8.99 each from towerhobbies. But its important to use a 6v battery with them. The servos just arent fast enough on 4.8v but are plenty fast with a 6v. They work just fine.

If you are in Flower Mound Texas or near by take a look at [link=http://www.wildharerc.com/html/specials.html]this[/link]. About half way down, 2 rtf planes for great prices.

Have the 260 with DLE 30 and it's about 10 1/2 all up weight. I made no efforto to cut weight. Excellent quality. 30 has lots of power. Only flown twice, but happy so far.

Have any of you added nose weight? Where is your cg? I had mine on the back of the wing tube as per instructions with 40% expo on the elevators and she was wild. Just managed to land . I have added nose weight and now cg,s on front of the wing tube and bumped expo up to 50 % but have not tried her yet. Manual says up to 70% expo !!!???
