Is this plane a good one to harrier-land? i want to hariier land with out worrying about severe tip-stall and wing rocking!! Will this plane remain stable in a harrier landing and then set right down.

Dewey2 11-03-2004 06:58 PM

RE: U Can Do 3D

if you can harrier it can

will this aircraft tip-stall easily?

AcroJo 11-03-2004 07:19 PM

RE: U Can Do 3D

You couldn't tip stall it if you tried. When forcing a stall, it will eventually fall nose over. Very neutral. Joe

got my first flat spin today(and a real good one) over and over went straight up and cut throttle. fell over backwards (inverted) and gave full down ele and full left rud and what a flat spin w/ a little ail l&r to keep it in.a real thrill cause ive been trying a while and got tips from flying circus.com.ordering my cline tommorrow.

RE: U Can Do 3D

Anyone flyin one with an O.S. 70?? will it hover with that and will it do a nice harrier landing. will it remain stable in the harrier landing. I've heard that the .46 is extremely hard to tip stall and will only do it if you force it to. it seems that it would stall really easy considering the speed!! I don't want this. could someone tell me if this will come in extremely nose high and just settle right in without easily tip stalling.
I really want to learn to harrier land but don't want so spank it due to tip- stall!!!!! could someone please help??

RE: U Can Do 3D

is the procedure for a harrier landing come in with little to no air speed adn just settle it in??

AcroJo 11-04-2004 07:38 PM

RE: U Can Do 3D

One more time..............it dosen't tip stall. I would advise that you become proficient with harriers in the air before an attempt to land in that attitude. Joe

I just want to thank you for you're patientness with me!! I just have one more question. Will an O.S. 70 four stroke infinetly hover the .46 size?? Thanks once again!!

RE: U Can Do 3D

FF3D, check out the UCD 46 thread. Tons of info and you will more than likely find your particular set up with some tried and true applications. There are quite a few 46s out there and guys that have them in the air for a while now. Chock full of all the pros and cons that your looking for. Search U-Can-Do 3d 46? Thats the big thread. Hope it helps. Joe

Thanks Joe!! I'll try that. I appreciate the information

I love this plane. It is the most predictable craft I own. Most of the time it's nose high. Really performs well with the os 70 4 stroke.

RE: U Can Do 3D

well i finally recieved my cline a few days ago and installed it, moved my tank over cg and have a cg of 53/8 and it lands pretty much the same.so now im gonna move my battery from rear hatch compartment to one more back and recheck.it did help with hovering but not enough to get low since ive only been flying 10 mos but a real improvement.it didnt seem to help my knifedge and made it dive harder to the wheels. and my flat spins are the same.i have a lot to learn but i love this sport.and appriciate any input. im kinda glad i have no one standing over my shoulder trying to teach me but i really have thanks to this site so im not totally without guidance!! i am reworking my rudder on my crashed ucd to liken it to joes rud by taking a little off the top and maybe that will help the wheeldive in knifedge. when i get rich, or my wife gives me the money i will get a ys 110fz. going out to fly now!

GJ, the rudder mod only eliminates the opposite wing drop when rudder is applied. Now this is interesting, last week we maidened a UCD .46 which has the horizontal stab sitting lower on the tail as opposed to the higher placement on the .60. No dive to the wheels on the .46 when rudder is applied. Interesting. Joe

RE: U Can Do 3D

joe did your ucd dive HARD to the wheels or just a little to the wheels? mine dives really hard since i moved tank over cg. i only have a jr 631 and cant do any mixing yet. i guess i have more money to spend!!!. so i guess its not all bad cause i will learn how to fly by the sticks before i let my controller fly it!! oh i got my cg to 5.5 even by moving my batt back some and i still have no problem landing. so i guess ill tak everyones #1 advice and practice practice practice. thanks joe.

selling mine, just doesn't fly the way i want it! going to get a EF yak!

AcroJo 11-16-2004 08:46 AM

RE: U Can Do 3D

GJ, yes the dive to the wheels is hard. I got about 30% mixed to the elv.
srx, that seems to be the plane of choice. I've read everthing there is on the EF Yak, just havn't bought one yet. Who knows, Christmas is coming. Joe

RE: U Can Do 3D

I just put a new OS 91 four stroke on my 40 sized U-CAN DO, it balanced fine when I moved my 6v batt pack to the rear of the servo tray.
Anyhow this thing is 10 times more fun flying with the extra power, I can hover at around 1/4 throttle, when I go full throttle it launches like the space shuttle :D

I just bought a 15x4W and a 16x4W APC prop and can't wait to try them, I was using the old 14x4W that I had with the OS 70 4 stroke.

It's like flying a different plane with the new engine.

I can fly this plane for probably 25 minutes because I have to use such little throttle. [:-]

RE: U Can Do 3D

:)I just finished my 2nd UCD 60. My first one crashed into the runway last March. First flight of the year. I guess I was rusty. Anyways after building/flying/crashing 3 of the 46 UCD I decided to come back to the 60. I used a Saito 100 and I'm using a APC 16x4W prop. On the test stand during break in I can turn approx. 9500 RPM. I use 30% fuel because I'm at 4800' elevation. I'm pretty sure this will be a good combo. With this build I tried to keep everything as light as possible. My finished ready to fly weight is 7 lbs 4.5 oz. I'm thinking this will be light enough that the Saito will fly it good. My initial balance came out at 5 11/16". How does everyone feel about that CG? Too far back? My other UCD 60 weighed 7 lbs 8 oz. The Saito flew it pretty well but not real happy with it but I was only using 15% then. The Saito really seems to like the 30% in this thin air. Not only more power but better transition as well. I'm hoping to maiden this new baby this year. But in Idaho we are on limited time with our weather. Anyways, this is a great thread. I still like these planes. They are not the best, maybe, but the fun factor per dollar is fantastic and there is little the planes will not do as far as aerobatics. Easy to land to. I have a H9 Funtana 90 and I don't fly it. It's just too much trouble. I also have a Mayhem which I really like but I wanted one of these too. They are quite a bit different.
Have a great day!
Thanks,
Barry
