I just ordered one from Tower. It says they have them in stock and the order conformation even states a estimated arrival date of 8/28/02.

I was in the LHS sat am, was going to get a ucd, and a guy was paying for it when I walked in. He said he has had it since last week.

Rob--the little plane sounds fun-but I threw away all my glo engines --
My new model has 1178 squares - and a wing loading of under 19 oz ft. (10.5 lbs)
The prototype had "ample" power with the ZDZ40 .
It flew easily turning under 4000 rpm
I am trying to make the production type so even Colorado folks can keep under 11 lbs -
So far looks OK
Lemme know how the little bird works -and by the way - try to avoid the fences --

Mr. Hanson, that run in with the barbed wire fence was just part of my new freesyle routine! I'll give ya a personal call Wed. or Thursday to report on the UCD3D.

Take care, Rob

Got my ST90 running better today and was doing nice waterfalls and a friend stopped by and showed me how to do a blender...well that resulted in a climbing flat spin...blew him away..now he wants one..my ST90 dosen't like to run inverted and it hovers better with the 14x6 but does every thing else better with a 13x6 apc...I'm trying a Saito 91 on it tomorrow...bolted rigt up to the same mount.. If great planes is NOT lieing then I'm really making up some big time BS here aren't I? P^)

Hello guys

I received my " U Can Do " last week on a dealer promo program. On Friday morning at 6:30 I began assy. work and I finished at 8:30 Friday evening. I equipped the aircraft with a JR radio and OS 91. With the 1400 mill pack mounted behind the wing I had to place approximately 2 ounces of lead at the furthest part aft on the fuse to bring the C/G just a touch tail heavy. on Saturday morning I got to the field early, fueled, range checked and went for it. Believe it or not this thing flew hands off no trim required, also it performs very wild, mild, or precision 3D.You guys will really love this thing.

Sincerely Bob Sawyer

P.S. finished weight 7.9 lbs

Can you guys measure the height of the vertical stab/rudder with the tailwheel mounted? Damn Mustang trunk... :D

FlipM: I hear you on that. I think manufaturers should start posting tail sizes.

I think the tail comes off, according to another link. Also the pics look like they have a couple of little holes..... Will a saito 100 do the trick for this thing???

I measured the height of the tail, and it was 151/2 inches with the tail wheel that came with the kit.Terry

LHS called me today. GP called and is shipping backorders this week. So for those of us who did not get in on the first run, they should be in stores next week.

for those who already have this plane, i'm seriously considering this plane, but i can't decide on an engine, either an os 91, or a ys 91. but i got to thinking, can the landing gear clear a prop for the ys??? maybe you guys can make the decision for me?? and can this plane hover with the os 91, or is it not enough power?? thanks.

I'll be using.....

a Saito 100 with a Bolly 15x7.....plenty of prop room.....

This plane is big......

Servos?

What type of servos are you all using for your UCD3Ds? I'm thinking about using 2x HS-77BB for the ailerons, 2x HS-225BB on the elevator, a HS-605BB on the rudder, and a JR 241 micro servo for the throttle. What do you think?

Flatspin-RCU 08-28-2002 05:01 PM

ucd-servos

I ued two HS545's on the aielrons (just cause I had them) a HS5625 dig on the rudder and 2 HS605's on the evevators. I was going to go with the 225's on the elevators but the holes are already cut for the standard size servo. Also I needed the tail weight anyway with a ST90 up front.

One note about the flying serfaces...they are built up but very thin and they flex pretty easy...I would hate to see what would happen if I was flying "balls out" and jerked back on the elevator. I think the wing might hold if you made a good glue joint but the HS and elevator just might leave the plane or fold. In other words I would keep the speed down on this plane and just use good throttle management and have fun 3Din like the plane was designed for. But you just know somebody is going buy one of these and try and fly it like a pylon racer. Hope I have my camera when they do. 8*)

Hello guys

The OS 91 FX is more than adequate power for hover and climb out. The prop clearance is not a problem. the servos that I used are ailerons 8411 2 ea. rudder 8411 1 ea. elevators 9411 2 ea.

I plan on trying a TT 91 4C to start out with. It's about the same weight as an OS 91FX, and supposedly will turn a 15x6 prop in excess of 9500 rpm. How'd the plane balance with the FX and standard servos? Will using minis on the elevator halves make the plane nose heavy? You guys think that this will be enough to hover and pull out vertically? I've also got a YS 91FZ, but it's slated for another project...

Test flew mine today with the YS1.40 and yes, it is way overpowered! Even here in the Mile High City it will hover at about 30-35% throttle. The instructions are correct when they say it will not sit still on the runway at idle with a 1.20. It has no bad habits and although I was carefull with the throttle, a few passes (quick) at full throllte showed no flutter and everthing is still in one piece. The rudder is extremly powerful but everything else seems well balanced although I am nose heavy. I am running a 16X8 prop which pulls well but it is hard to slow down for landing. More tests soon with some different props and with the cg moved back, I'll report back. This plane is a hell of a bargin and flies well, however a .90 YS would be my pick for a power plant if I had it to do over.

wow!

I just took a look at this plan at my LHS and man is this thing big!!!!! I don't see how an OS 91 4 stroke os going to hover this plane.I was very impressed with the quality but I just can't get over the size!I wish I had a 120 laying around instead of my 91!
Anyone think a 91 will be enough to pull out of a hover?

i jumped on the wagon yesterday and ordered a ucd. in fact, i had it overnighted too. and after playing with it this afternoon, i have a couple questions for you guys.
first, what are you doing with the horizontal stab?? glue it to the fillet and bolt them on, or glue it to the fuse, then glue it to the stab, or something else??
second, what are you doing with the elevator linkage?? with the elevators move together with the two different linkages?? has anyone thought about using a mk products bellcrank to eliminate any differintal throw??
thanks guys
tony

I just got mine yesterday. About half done hoping to fly it this weekend. Sorry no camera to take pictures. I have to say I'm impressed with the plane. Much nicer than my Aeroworks 60/90 rock. (almost 10lbs). Weighed everything in the box, 4lb 7oz. It is light for such a big plane.

I don't quite understand you question about the stab. I'm just bolting mine down. I used thread lock to keep the bolts in tight.

As far as elevator linkage is concerned, IMHO I prefer 2 servos. Why? Because you have 2 separate paths to the receiver. I plug one into channel 2 and the other into 7. If anything goes wrong on one path (or servo) you still have the other to land with (hopefully).
