RE: U Can Do 3D
Thank you! It will happily join my fleet of wildly varied airframes. I looked at K-mart today, and saw much of the same...which was nothin! So I gave up; this one will be without a pilot just like my last one. No biggy, it ain't for looks, it's all about performance. Of all the planes I've had/flown, this one was my favorite, and is sure to be again. I wonder if GP plans to release an updated version. I liked the idea of the Reactor, but I've seen one fly, and I wasn't impressed. It wasn't in anyway crappy, just not like my old Do. Glad I managed to get one, and they are still supported. Hopefully it'll go the way of the Chaos, and just be reiterated over the years. [8D]

RE: U Can Do 3D
Hey guys, anyone here have an OS FL-70 engine on his UCD? I just wanna know if i must buy an expansion for the shaft of the engine (something like that, i don't remember where i read that)
|
RE: U Can Do 3D
Are you talking about the 70 Do or the 46? An OS FL 70 engine will probably fly it but it's not the best engine for it and really too small for it. For the 60 Do you'll want at least a Saito 91 and for the 46 Do the Saito 82 is best. The OS 70 is a heavier engine than the Saitos.

RE: U Can Do 3D
If I was still totally into the Do(.60) nothing less than OS 1.20AX or YS 1.10, maybe Evo 1.00. The plane flys great at 8-8.5 lbs, you can get it lighter with lighter engine, but hovers might suffer.

RE: U Can Do 3D
You didn't catch my question man. I ask if anyone have this engine and if he use an expansion at the shaft so the prop is fully out of the cawl. I respect your opinions about engines but no thanks. I'm stack with OS engines here i live. They are one of the TOP brands in planes and also in cars since i have 3 of them and they rock. I want the 46 size, and i will go as the manufacturer says. A 70 engine is the biggest i can put, so the OS FL-70. Do you have a UCD?;)

RE: U Can Do 3D
I've seen that engine on a Reactor, and it ran very well. He was able to hover, and do everything a 3-D plane typically can. I bet it'd be fun in the 46 Do.
I'm so pleased with the way my recent Do went together, I took pics of the cowl up close. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out... except the trim of course..hehe I had a huge hole in my last cowl so I could slide it on after the exhaust was installed. This time I went for the "Clean" look. ;) http://image2-6.rcuniverse.com/e1/ga.../lg-142296.jpg Look how well I got the dang needle valve centered in the hole. :D http://image2-6.rcuniverse.com/e1/ga.../lg-142297.jpg I flew it for the first time last weekend, and it went off without a hitch. The new O.S. 91 4 stroke ran perfectly. It pulls very hard with the 15x6, hovers a less than half throttle, and pulls out with authority(not a rocket, but plenty for me). |

Ok then, i must misread something

RE: U Can Do 3D
Yeah, i think the manual will help me somehow. The great plane's manuals are not very good in my opinion.

RE: U Can Do 3D
With a model of this type, they expect that you don't need much help in building it. I just used mine as a reference. Now that I've just built one, I could build another without the instructions at all... ;)

RE: U Can Do 3D
:)Personally, I think that a 70 size 4 stroke engine will not be big enough for good flight. The Saito 82 is what I'd call minimum size. It flys it good, but certainly doesn't have too much horsepower, and that's with 30% glow fuel. No way a 70 size eingine would do a decent flat spin, let alone a rising flat spin which the UCDs are famous for.
I'd use a bigger engine. thanks Barry |
RE: U Can Do 3D
Yeah but the plane's reccomendations for the UCD 46 is engines 4-stroke 51-70, so i put a 70 which is maximum. I thought about the OS 91 or even the 1.20 but i think the 70 is good enough. The good with those engines is that they are cheap compare from those i have on my cars :D

RE: U Can Do 3D
Great Plane's recommendations on the 52 to 70 engine is because they don't want people to fly the U Can Do's too fast. They also rccommend a .32-50 2 stroke but a .32 2stroke probably won't even get it off the ground very well let alone do any kind of aerobatics with it. You can put a Saito 91 or 100 on the 46 Do and it will fly just fine but if you overspeed the plane even with a 55 OS AX you'll end up with a plane that can rip apart in the air. I've seen it happen. One of the guys at our field had a 46 Do with a 55 AX in it and was zipping around real fast with it one day and it just exploded and totaled out the plane. So that's why GP recommends the engines that they do with it.
|
RE: U Can Do 3D
I see and i can imagine this "explosion" in midair. When i was flying last year, the guys who are there, told me not to put my plane in an angle of 45 and down, because the force will destroy the plane.

RE: U Can Do 3D
You can dive straight down.... just don't throttle up. And if you feel you must, run a 4 pitch prop, then it should never exceed the max speed... in theory... :D

RE: U Can Do 3D
Ok, no problem ;)

RE: U Can Do 3D
they fly awsome just like a kite. great 3-d manuvers just a overall great investment to have a lot of fun with.

RE: U Can Do 3D
Can anyone tell me how far off centered to the left the engine mount and thus the engine is supposed to be set. The vertical line that is supposed to be scribed on the firewall are not there.
Thanks Steve |
RE: U Can Do 3D
I had a Moki 1.35 in a .60 Do, beefed up firewall and gear mounts & flew fine. A OS 1.08 or new 1.20FX 2 stroke is great for the .60 Do. Have flown w/ OS 1.08 for many years, I use a Zinger 17X5 prop. Use 4/40 push rod or CF over 4/40, with tight linkages(DuBro ball links are best) there will be no flutter which can seem to "explode" a plane at WOT straight runs. I still have one, but due to 50cc class 3-D planes, the Do is getting hanger rash. I have offers up to $50 to bring it out so they can burn it, go figure??!! I could do almost every 3-D maneuver with it.

RE: U Can Do 3D
Hi All,
I have the Ucan Do 3D 60 Size with a Super Tiger .90. Not happy with the engine the way it runs. I would prefer to get an OS max. The question is Should I get the (.91 Surpass 4 stroke) (The 120AX -2 Stroke w/ rings) or ( the 2-Stroke OS Max .90). Not looking to race around the field because the plane will explode most likely. But I want the power to do some nice 3D rising Spins, Blenders waterfalls etc. New to the 3D but have been flying for a long time. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks a Bunch Guys Ed |
RE: U Can Do 3D
1 Attachment(s)
I think you would be underwhelmed with the 91 Surpass. Try that one with the 46 Do. I have the 120AX and I like it but I think the plane I have it on is somewhat heavier than the 60 Do so I'm guessing that's it would be way more than you would need for it. The OS Max 90 sounds like it could work for it. Throttle management is key on the Do's. If you fly it around too fast it just may explode on you. I've seen it happen.
Note, I have no idea what the attachment things below are. ?? Please ignore them. |
RE: U Can Do 3D
I sold my 4th & last Do for $50. .60 size w/ OS 1.08 & ready to fly. I have used two OS 1.20AX's & they are just a little stronger than the old 1.08. I have a used OS 1.20AX for sale here on RCU, it runs great and has plenty of hours left on it. Asking $170 or B.O. I wouldn't hesitate to put the OS 1.20AX in a .60 size Do, 2 strokes rule for 3-D, you just need to go up a little from the recommended size though, I have flown 2 .60 Do's with OS 90 2 strokes & they flew OK, a little marginal for long hovers though.

RE: U Can Do 3D
:)Eddie, probably the best engine for the UCD60 is the mighty YS110. And now with recent price increase from everybody else they look pretty cheap at about $369. The best engine I've found for this class of plane...as long as you can get it tuned right.
Thanks Barry |
