RE: U Can Do 3D

I've never used Digitals with my Do, just Hitec HS635 Karbonite & 6V gives you 85oz. torque, I've never had gear failure or arm failure with hundreds of flights. I have burned out the "pot" in a couple, but no crash because they dont lock when they fail. Rolling harriers are not very inspiring with the standards though, Digi's should help that.

just came back from the field , took off the cowl ( was loose). all 4 blocks that where holding the cowl where disconnected from the fuse . and still attached to the cowl screws .
i glued them at the time with 30 min epoxy to the fire wall. How do you guys attach them to the fuse ?

RE: U Can Do 3D

with 30 min epoxy and then pin it with a dowl or two threw the center.

RE: U Can Do 3D

I left the cowl blocks off of mine and used screws directly into the fuse/firewall joint.

RE: U Can Do 3D

The firewall is coated with a smooth finish, sand & clean up then epoxy the blocks, I added small tri stock to them to make a larger glue-bond area. They never came off after that.

i know this will be a stupid question but did any one try or hear of any one putting a g20ei in a you can do 60 ?

RE: U Can Do 3D

I guess a gasser would work, the UCD has enough wing to haul almost anything. But why? You guys with the YS110's have some good times ahead of you. I've been flying my .60 size with an old YS91AC since 2002. This engine will hover at less than half throttle, in fact you can't stay even at the low end of the power band without climbing. The 110 is even stronger. That is why my 110 is on a heavier Yak; it needs the power more than the UCD.

Only reason i asked is i am having a hard times getting good nitro here in Croatia, and 7% nitro runs $30 per gallon and that is not even cool power it is a knock off brand. Plus I have to drive 8 hours to Austria to get it. so just asking about it. Also would the ucd 60 be equal to the hype with a Wesson motor I have seen here ,my friend flies it is it is nice , so slow and very responsive big wings and light ?

RE: U Can Do 3D

Elvir - OK, now I understand. I'm not familiar with the Wesson engine, but that G20 gasser might be a good choice for you. As far as I'm concerned the Ucando is one of the best designs I've seen in the 20 years I've been flying. It is amazingly stable even at stall speeds, and so is very forgiving as you practice 3D stuff. Very light, very maneuverable. And it does amazingly well with a wide variety of engines. Personally, of the 24 planes I currently have flying, my 3 Ucandos (one in each size) are the ones that almost always go to the field. Really amazing planes.

Incidentally, my wife's grandparents came here from Croatia years ago, and my mother-in-law still speaks Croatian. I've heard it is beautiful - my wife would love to visit there some day. Happy flying!

Thanks for the info, i moved here about 7 years ago and am in the tourism business , my web site is ( www.grad-nin.com ). i am trying to see if i cam make a vacation package here so if people want to go on vacation they can bring there planes and go fly and the wife and kids go to the beach , still in the planning stages .

It can handle the weight of a Moki 1.35,forget exactly what the weight was, but if its close to the G20, it will fly, dont think the power will be the same as the Moki though.

Havent flown the Do in a while, got out this past Sat,& only took the Do because of the weather. Got a couple tail touches in, light wind! It was nice from 9AM to about 11, then the wind picked up so I tried to hover leaning into the wind(pointing) Damn, if it doesnt work, you can keep the plane stationary for the most part even in a head wind. I tried a year ago & didnt have it, after just playing around it came to me, its not that hard. Its actually safer than straight up I think, if you accidentally touch tail, it will land on the gear. This is going to make hovers more fun, more ways to do it in different wind conditions.

OK, this is it for the Do,I merged several old&new videos together to make a final tribute to the Do, I learned the basics with this plane, still have it but dont fly it much anymore because of new planes that are, well, better. The video can be found using the tag name=Mixmaster, here in RCU.

Best we can figure the receiver battery came unpluged with all surfaces full throw and full throttle, didn't even have a chance. 91 os Surpass II with broken intake manifold and regulator on the carb.
Need to find a new one, really liked flying this bird.

:)Ouch!

Sorry to see that. The UCDs are some of the most fun airplanes out there.

I love mine.

Thanks
Barry

On sale at Tower, 169.00 I just bought a new one, can't wait to get it in the air. I lost my old one to a radio hit. Throttled up, nosed over and straight to oblivion!

My old Do is collecting dust since I went to 30% gassers, my buddies want to burn it next camp out. Dont know why they feel that way, I want it to go like an old soldier, fly it until it hits the dirt or falls apart.

If you need someone to fly it into the ground for you I am the man.

RE: U Can Do 3D

I've already done that 2 times, hovering & moving with the wind then tail touches ground, bad things happen.

RE: U Can Do 3D

Maybe convert it to electric, then you could fly in a park...everybody has a nearby park that would be an EXCELLENT place to attract new hobbiests... [)] I would take my previous U can down to a local soccer field. There was an office building nearby, and a war memorial. It was a great way to show off what the bird can do. Don't kill it, do the Do!

RE: U Can Do 3D

Been "Do'ing" it for over 4 years, had a ball with it, wasn't much 3'D I couldnt do with it, except very poor rolling harriers. I'm going to keep it & fly it when I'm in the mood, besides, it flys better now that its been broke and looks like crap!(I just dont worry about it anymore!)

I was afraid that was it in your avatar... [X(] I've got the prop and the new engine is on the way, so I should have it Airborne in a week or two.

Almost Ready! Just need to find a pilot figure. I don't want anything that actually looks like a pilot. I want something WEIRD!

It looks nice. Good job. [X(] Maybe you could use a small scale R2D2 or Yoda or Darth Maul
