RE: U Can Do 3D

Well I got mine up today I've read all the forums and was very worried that my 91 magnum wouldn't do the job boy was I wrong. I had some troubles to begin with she had the jitters and I found bad switch. Took her back out to field and did range check with engine running she got the jitters again so I started asking questions here on rc universe. I think my problem turned out to be metal to metal I had a z bend on the throttle. I also had antenna inside fuse and I pulled it out but myself and others seem to think it was the metal to metal. Anyway I had already run two tanks threw the magnum and running her rich we got her to a reliable idle and transition to wot. I taxied her out grinning from ear to ear throttled up and in about 15-20ft she was up. My grin is gone now more into the butt pucker of the maiden now. I got her up and started trimming or thats what I thought I was gonna do. Only thing she needed was a little down. Man what a smooth flying plane a few rolls and some slow passes listening for flutter and I brought her back in for a nice slow landing wow what a plane. I got in 2 more flights one lasting 15 mins had my timer set for 10 after I landed it was over more than 5 mins, this girl sips the fuel. I say 2 flights but really one I had to let a few that helped me get some and it was all I could do to get my tx back. Now someone teach my dislexic thumbs to 3D please. She may look like a pattern plane and she is kinda ugly but what a smooth flying girl she is. I LIKE IT WOOOOOWHOOOOO

Barry, I know you have flown the ucando with the Saito engine inverted with standard setup with the tank, did you have any problems with flooding. I am just about to build my third one, 1st with Super Tigre 90 upright never could get the throttle transition right, also died a bit. The next one with a Saito 125 upright was fairly happy with it just needed to add down thrust and it was good. This one I intend to do inverted, copped a lot of crap from the boys because it didn't look right, just don't want to have any hassles with the standard set-up. I was using a 16x6 prop. Any help would be appreciated

Cheers Bob

Bob, ive built three also and my last setup was the perfect setup as far as fuel flow and easy tuning.

I just ordered a ucd 60 and a great planes pluma for some 3d flying:D I`m on a budget so I couldnt afford an engine but that just gives me time to assemble the model slooowly:)
What I want is a saito 100 or 125, but maybe a 2stroke is all I can afford, time will show:)
Anyway, cant wait to fly this bird:D

Does the one with the os 120AX hover good? I do get a great price on a magnum 91 4stroke.. but that is definately to lame for the 60, maybe on the ucd 46 it would have been a good combo.

RE: U Can Do 3D

Mine flys fine with the magnum 91 4ST doesn't pull out of hover very well but I'm ok with that, being the engine was only $150. I fly at half throttle most of the time and she lands like a trainer. Very fun plane

RE: U Can Do 3D

I believe many are flying ther do60 with a 91 4stroke. And perhaps thats a good engine for the plane, it hovers and pulls out but not way overpowered.
I think I will take some time to decide which engine to go for, but a 91 4stroke is not out of the picture!

I can get a great deal on a os 160 2stroke but is that so much that its not even good?

Deal or not, an OS 160 is way too big and heavy. Keep this plane light with a 4 stroke Saito 100 or 125 or if you want a 2 stroke... an OS 91FX or OS120AX at the most.

Murdoc 03-03-2009 08:09 AM

RE: U Can Do 3D

Yeah it is a little heavy but since some people have flown their ucd60 with huge gas engines i thought the 160 was an alternative.
Anyway, I`m going with a saito 100:)

:)It's early in our season here in Idaho. But the last two Saturdays I've got a little flying in. I've chosen my trusty UCD60 to get the thumbs working again.
I had a great time. I put in 21 flights and it just amazes me how much I love these airplanes. I have several other planes all the way up to a 100cc. But I don't have any more fun than I do with these.
The flat spins and waterfalls are truly great on this plane. Also, with a lot of work on the sticks I got a few pretty good knife edges. But for overall fun....it's tough to beat this wonderful UCDs.
It hovers very easily and with a lot of stick work will do a decent Harrier and KE.
Loads of fun....which is what RC flying should be about. No wonder these UCDs are some of the most popular airplanes in the sky.
Thanks
Barry

Are you guys using CF pushrods on your UCD? I was looking at using Carbon Fiber pushrods and found a website called [link=http://www.connectorsRC.com]www.connectorsRC.com [/link]

What do you guys think?

rclement 04-01-2009 07:25 AM

RE: U Can Do 3D

I use them on all my planes but I make my own. The push rods on the 46 are too flimsy anyway. I don't remember if they are on the 60 but I replaced them anyway.

:)I use Central Hobbies carbon fiber push rods with titanium rod ends. Very very cool and work perfectly. It really helps with these planes.

Have fun.

I have bought those before, but they're kinda expensive.

Hi guys / Pro

I have a UCD 60 and am right now powering with a os91fx engine with a standard muffler and flying it with a APC 16*4 W prop . I'm not too very happy with this combo. Ofcourse, i'm not a 3d nerd, but trying to hover the aiplane.
Is the above combo good to learn hovering?
If not what enigne and what prop do you people suggest me to use?

Thanks for the help.

Regards,
Adarsh

RE: U Can Do 3D

A Saito 100 with a Master Airscrew 15X6 prop will be a perfect combo for that plane. Since the Saito 115 came out, you can find some good used saito 100's.

I have a UCD 60 and i converted mine to Electric using a 6s 5000mah 40c Lipo and a Emax BL4030/10 Motor swinging a 17x8 Prop.
Lot's of power and is does 3d very well.
do they make a bigger UCD? bigger than the 60sz?

They did make a Giant UCD, but its discontinued now. You see them on the market ever so often.

Wow i was lookn online on youtube and i saw a giant ucd electric conversion. i must have that plane. is it true they dont make the giant ucd anywhere in the US? if anyone out there has one. i live in Fl and i will pay u for this plane. Just the frame with servos.

RE: U Can Do 3D

The Giant UCD is not constructed the same as the others. In fact it is more significantly different from the others than the difference between the 40 and 60 series.

I have a 60 with a Saito 125 and another guy at the field has a Giant and it is so different it doesn't strike me as the same design. Just similar

With the 125 side mounted do you still need the cline?

Even tho the Giant U Can Do is different, i sure would still love to own one and convert it to electric. If anyone has any photos of there Giant U Can Do, please post for im still looking for one. The one i own is turning out to be my Favorite plane. I love the Design and the way it Flies.
Here is a ok video clip of my 60sz Electric Conversion U Can Do.
