Possible some did not have it..spoke to my friend today and he felt that the one he had did have it but I could not see it by looking at it...he said the prop lined right up but that could be because everything was straight and on zero with his...it flies nice though no matter what's in his but I haven't explored the limits with it and he just does rolls with it and low passes (older retired gentleman - he loves the slow landings...)

Mecam : Do you have any more videos of you flying the UCD yet ? I really enjoyed the first one , seems like I saw somewhere on a different post that you were going to have another video out soon. Is this true or am I dreaming? Thanks

What is the concensus prop, size and pitch, to use with this combo?

I'm using a Zinger 14X6 on my UCD3D / 91FX. Not a great amout of forward speed but accelerates like a rocket and pulls like a tractor. Awesome power.

I flew 4 flights today on the UCD with the OS 90FS. Brand new motor so was running it rich to break it in. With Top Flite Wood 15x6 for break in it was turning about 7000 rpm. Hovering was no problem. Somewhere around half throttle to a little bit above to hold it there. Was able to knife edge loop it. Didn't rocket out of the hover but again this motor is right out of the box today so I didn't want to push it hard...after another gallon of fuel I'll lean it up a bit more and play with some props.

Other than that the flights were all perfect....don't want to give too much away as I'm writing up the full review for the mag which will be in the next issue in around 2 weeks. Suffice it to say this plane is awesome and LOTS of fun.

My LHS ordered two U-Can-Dos, :( one for me and one for stock. Supposed to be in today. I stopped in after work ready to pick mine up only to be disappointed! They're back-ordered and won't be in 'till mid November according to Great Planes. Bummer, the snow will be flyin' here by then! Anyone get one recently?

saito 120 w/ 16*8 prop. flys great. only mod was moved the rudder servo to bottom and made pull pull, cut the graphics so it says "Can u do 3d" . installed all 4-40 rods on elevators. hovers great. will flat spin kind slow, waterfalls pretty good(use flapperons for trhe best ones) over all flys good but doesn't land as slow as others i seen since it has the bigger motor.

where is your CG to get it to flat spin? also what technique are you using to get it into the flat? I tried 2 times today but could not get it flat but my CG is at 5" so I'm thinking it might need to move back.

also...mine lands so slow it's amazing. also with the flap mix on at 1/8th throttle I could make it practically hang in the air at a slight nose up attitude. This thing seems impossible to stall practically.

my balance is at 5" also right now. the flat spins aren't super flat yet but ahven't experimetned a whole lot yet. i am about full thorttle towards teh end of the spin when it is getting flatter. mine won't slow down that good but i ahve a 16 8 prop, i wish i could get like a 17*4W or 176 but looked at apc's website and it loks like i am about stuff wiht this one. mine doesn't harrier to good, wants to wing rock some. kife edge is good, slight roll coupling. i have got my rudder on pull pull w/ tons of throw, not sure of exact amt but a lot, the elevator is also maxed out. i ahve the ailevators set up but couldn't tell much of a difference tosay also they did make it do a funny flat spin. anyone else using these and how do they help. i am using the new futaba 9caf on it .

I also have the Futaba 9C on mine w/ailevators...tried them but didn't notice much difference...anybody know what maneuver makes the ailevators shine?

I used to have ailevators on my TT 120 powered CG Extra. IMHO, about the only thing the ailevators were good for was being able to speed up, stop, or even reverse a torque roll. Other than that, I kept the aileron mix turned off.

I'm building my UCD now. I'll probably try the ailevators on the UCD simply because the Extra program is still in my 8UAF, but the Extra has long gone to balsa heaven.

Get the 17x6 prop for your Saito 120. It's slightly easier to turn than the 16x8. OS 1.08 will turn the 17x6 @ 9400. OS 1.60 will turn the 17x6 @ 10000

Anyone running the OS 90FS with a 15x6...what kind of rpm's are you getting...breaking in motor and want to see what I should be getting over the next couple gallons for comparison.

If you're talking about the older style OS 90 four stroke, I running a 14x6 @ 9200. I'm not sure how used this engine is, I'm not the original owner.

Well, pretty much like everybody, I couldn't stand to put the factory decals on this thing, so when I assembled the plane for the first time, this name came to mind. Check it out. (I know it's not a DC-3!) :D

How are all of you balancing your plane? I mean what method? I have a GP balancing machine and I'm wondering if anyone else uses it and how accurate it is...

I used it, I think it works pretty well, but this model doesn't have much center sheeting for the pads to rest on so it's kinda tricky.

I used the GP CG Machine. I rested the pads on the monokote and it worked fine. It left a little indentation in the covering but after an hour it disappeared and no need to even hit it w/heat gun.

As for accuracy..I'd say much more accurate than the finger balancing method and right up there with the best methods I've seen. Simple physics dictate the CG machine..small ball joint for low friction and tiny fulcrum. I could move my battery as little as 1/4" and watch the balance change...very accurate. Just make sure the posts just touch the leading edge and are square all around.

ok thanks. I just thought that with the size of the pads on the balancer that it might distribute the CG and not provide an accurate reading. Finally finished mine and hope to fly this weekend :)

ok guys

the os 1.08 is hung and the plane is ballanced
i am flying it in the morning
it weighs at 7.34 pounds
with 3oz lead in the tail
the only thing was the muff its kinda heavy
is there a tuned pipe on the market for that motor
ill keep u all posted some tyme tomarrow

Guys,
I just finished putting mine together,and will fly it tomorrow weather permitting.I have ST G90 with APC13x6,and hi-tork servos all around.Just wondering what to expect performance wise??

Eric, let me know how it flys w/ the ST90 13x6 prop. I just bought me a used ST90. I do believe from what I have read that a 13x6prop is going to be to small for the 90. But this is just my opinion.

I have my UCD set up w/ Saito 91 w/ 15x4W prop. fly great, I just need time on it to get comfortable.

Things that make ya say humm... I live and fly in china, I have been been flying what seems to be one of the the prototypes of the now called UcanDo planes for about 2 years now. I am not sure if it had name then, I have just called it "BUTTUGLY".
It is one of the most entertaining planes I have every flown. I seldom get tired of flying it. The only things it can't do is be pretty and go fast.

I first saw it a model avation expo in Beijing about 2 years ago, It looked like it would be a good flyer, and I wanted one bad, but the booth attendent said it was not in production yet. Then a month later, a friend of mine, showed up at the fld with perhaps one of the first ones. I was so impressed with it I pulled out my cell phone and ordered 2 of em on the spot.

By reading the posts here, I have noticed some differences in the production model and my mine. the main thing is the weight, mine weighs in at a little over 5 lbs with a YS63, 4-cell battery. I know that may seem unbelieaveable for a plane this big, but the construction of mine is so light weight, that I really have to be careful with it during transport, and I am sure that any crash at all, would just vaporize it. It is also uses a very light weight transparent covering material with no graphics (a little hard to see far away, but I always fly it close). Mine also has a single servo / pull-pull through a double ended bell crank set-up for the elevator.

Mine has very noticable roll and pitch coupling, but it can be coaxed into the most increideable slow inveted flat spin you have ever seen.

I often hand lauch it for take-offs... straight up. It is so cool.

I really enjoy flying this plane, but not in windy conditions it is just too lite.

I can't believe you guys are putting 90's on this thing, I seldom use full throtle on my 63. But maybe they decided to make the production version a little more robust, mine (at 5 lbs) is pretty flimsy.
