UCD 3D

Hi guys..got my UCD yesterday and it looks pretty good except the wing is warped ...counter diehedral ways... I have some lead weight sitting on it now on my bench after taking a heat gun to it..hope it straightens out..also one aielron is really warped but should be able to take that out also with heat gun. Should have expected the first batch of arfs to have some flaws. I weighed all the parts (plane only) and came up with 71 1/2 OZ. so with the motor and radio gear I'm guessing about 7 to 8 lbs, about what they advertise for this plane. Ordering a YS91fz from Central tomorrow. should have it ready to fly in a week,,,later

UCD

Ran into another little snag with my UCD...no blind nuts in the firewall to mount the motor...only 4 of the 8 bolts were even long enough to go thru the engine mount so off to the LHS for some hardware...I decided not to spend anothe 300.00 on this plane for a motor so I'm putting my ST90 on it and see how it flys (before cutting the cowl of course) then if it dont cut it I'll pop for a YS91 or Saito 100. everything else about the plane looks pretty good. I must have gotton a newbie builder that built my wing. Ann Marie says an OS91fx or 91 four stroke flys the plane well. The OS91fx is supposed to have slighty more power than the 90ST but it weighs about 4 oz. more also...we'll see.

I noticed today that Tower has lowered their price on the U-Can-Do 3D from $199 to $189. :)

They also changed their expected ship date from mid August to late November. :disappoin

Got it!

And a .91FX. Any suggestions on the prop for this?

Also, will standard BB servos be okay for the tail or should I use HD ones?

Thanks!

I think it calls for 9001's????/

It is in the book....don't remember....I'm using 9202's all around....

Maybe a 615 on the rudder....

UCD

Guess I got the first one off the assembly line...cut out the aielron bays and looked inside to find broken ribs...both sides...since I couldn't see inside any further I simply squeezed the other ribs and most of them on the left side of the wing were also broken...Good thing Great Planes didnt use transperent Monocote like Hanger Nine did on the US60 or they couldnt have let this wing slide by quality control..?? Not happy at all with my UCD 3d. Think I'm just going to fly it and see how long it lasts. Another good reason to buy from your local hobby shop..mite have been worth the wait in my case. :

Ron, may I suggest you shoot AMCross an email and she will sort it out for you. Great Planes has excellent customer service and I'm sure they will replace the wing if it's that bad. :D

I don't get this. Now Tower is saying they're in stock when for the last 3 days they've said late November for shipping. Thats why I canceled my backorder. I hope they are not trying to sell busted ones that where sent back!!

Has anybody flown their u-can-do yet? I'm interested in hearing how this plane flies. What's the RTF weight that you guys have been seeing in your planes? If it's close to 7 lbs, a Saito 91 may work, but if it's closer to 8 lbs, I think I may go with a YS 91.

Picked mine up at the local hobby shop this past Friday and I must say it is perfect! All glue joints look good, no smashed or broken parts and the covering job is beautiful! Went together with no problems, parts fit was especially good and I used all the supplied hardware. Will test fly this week and report back. I paid $179 and consider it to be a great bargain.

Futaba 3004 on ailerons.
Futaba 9450 digital on rudder.
JR 368 digitals on elevators.

Ucd

Flew my UCD yesterday and today even with the broken ribs...I have a ST90 (G90) with 14x6 MA prop. Thhe motor flew my US60 better, probably cause its lighter,, about 1/2 lb...US60=6 1//4 lbs
UCD without pants or cowl 6 1/2 lbs...now i must admit the st90 was not running as good ...slow transition...not the revs but it didnt quit so I flew it anyway...

This plane flys great...I was doing knife edge loops real tite...I'll try larger ones but will have to program in a lot of up ele cause at the speed I need to do large loops it pitches towards the wheel bad...lots of rudder...can go very slow knife edge right in to a hover and torke roll...I do have to move back the cg and try it some more...couldnt quite get a waterfall going...it was easier without spoilerons on. Does the sweetest inverted elevators...into the wind it just sat there and didnt even decend..upright harriers wanted to wingrock and roll out but I think that will improve alot by moveing the cg back. his plane is even easy for me to hover and I'm just getting into the 3D stuff. Some more experimenting with mixes and getting my motor to run better will tell the whole story...I would like to hear about others...truthfully I dont think a Saito 1.20 or at least a YS91 fz would be too much motor for this plane. when I add the cowl and pants I'll be about 7 lbs as advertised...imagine that, the advertised weight!! I had a few problems with mine , like broken ribs and no blind nuts for the engine mount but I expected this with the first batch off the assembly line. At least it makes up for it a little by the way it flys...get one, you'll see...also the Kyosho
Flip looks interesting but of course it cost more cause it says Kyosho. 8^)

I can't wait to see Rob Kelly fly his this week, YS140 for power and he promised a tail tap on the test flight. Rob is truely one of the best pilots you will ever see. We will report.

Yea...if the tail is still on that long after take off....thats a tad bit overpowered wouldn't you say.

Over powered yes, but probably not as bad as it sounds! On a hot day here in the Denver area, the density altitute can easily be over 7,500 '. So while the wing loading will be higher with the big engine, the power to weight ratio should be close to that of a good running YS .91. Throttle management will be in order but if she blows I'll be the last one to blame anybody but myself!

Report to follow.

Hi guys, my LHS has always been very proud to get planes in very quickly from distributors. However, I was telling him that you guys have already received the U Can Do 3D. He is a little ticked off since he hasn't gotten any yet, so he called great planes, and great planes swears that NOBODY has received this plane yet, not even tower, and it would be about 10 more days until they do. I personally beleive you guys, but I can't beleive great planes would lie to one of their dealers either. Anybody got a pic to prove they actually have this plane?

Kevin S.
