Yo Rajul, just checkin in on what you settled on with your right thrust angle. If I remember correctly your running the Saito 100? I had about an 1/8" of washers on the last one and it seems like it equalled 3 degrees, not sure. Let me know if you get a chance. Thanks, Joe

I think that it is so interesting to look back on threads like this one talking about planes that have yet to come out and people talking about, "Oh, I can't wait till it comes out.....it looks so good.....i already know what engine I'm putting on it......"......that is just very interesting to see this and then it come out and a 67 page discussion come out of something that started a long time ago.......

BTW......this might be my 3rd plane.......dont' know what engine though......(either the UCD or the Funtana)

Mike, your so right. This thread has come a long way. All those plans in the beginning, with now, so many shared tips and some of those plans took a totally different direction. Saved a lot of trial and error with all the shared knowledge. Can't speak for the Funtana but the UCD is sure to put a smile on your face. Good luck with your decision. Joe

I have a few questions, I just acquired a .60 size that I am installing a Saito 100, Cline System, and a 15 x 6 prop. My main concern is with the CG. Where would be a good place to start the CG for beginner/intermediate 3d? I have heard that the suggested location from GP is not that great for 3D..

Also, is it necessary to open a hole in the front of the cowl for cooling?

If you are proficient at landing you can go 6 inches, thats where I found the plane to fly 3D best for me and still be manageable for landing. If you still struggle with landings I would say no more than 5" or so. Mine was a little tricky to land at 6". It wanted to approach nose high and pretty much landed from a harrier position. I have heard as far back as 7" but I personally wouldnt go that far back.

Yes you'll need that hole in the front to cool the Saito. Engines get hot and without airflow they can detonate.

The recommened 4.75" cg is very conservative and the plane doesn't 3D all that well there. If you've flown 3D before I'd start at around 5.5". Maybe work your way back after you have a feel for the plane. Mine is around 6.25" and it 3D's really well, but the knife edge coupling is worse than ever. I've mixed some of it out with my 9C, but it's not perfect by any means.

Nova, if you have not flown this plane before, then go with the recommended 4 7/8" or 5" until you become familiar with it. You can always move it to your own comfort level. Joe

My personal opinion is to balance it out at 6.. then.. just for the first few flights.. put some lead weight on the nose and balance that to 5. Every time you fly you can take 1/4 oz to 1/2 oz off the plane until you are where you want. The thought behind this is getting the battery where you want it the first time so you don't have to redo anything. Knowing that you will likely want it at this certain location soon anyways.. why not make your plane ready for that. My battery is right in front of the tail wings in a little hatch door. Balances at 6.25 with no counter balance and a ys 1.10. Balanced at 5 now. Ready to remove some of the extra weight.

The new rudder is coming along. All of the mods have slowed down my already sporadic building. So far I have mounted the new carbon tail gear, cut a hatch in the bottom of the fuse and installed a tray for the battery/ receiver. The new rudder took a while to design/ build/ cover, but I am pleased with how it looks. Rest of the construction should fall into place now.

when you finish up be sure to include your flying cg location. I have noticed the further back that is the worse the pull to the gear. I am excited to see your results. I don't see how changing a control surface cannot change flight characteristics of a plane. I think it has to.

I will do that. If my experiment is successful, I will post a CAD file of the rudder design for anyone interested. While I don't expect the new rudder to completey solve the knife edge problem, I do believe it will improve it.

Okay, I know that there are a few of you out there with the "Cline" regulator. Do I need to put clamps on the fuel line where it attaches to tank, fittings, etc. ? Thanks in advance, Joe
