I wouldn;t worry too much about the weight. it is a heavier plane than the funtana but it still has amazing performance. The .91 would not be enough engine to do full 3D with it but it would still fly nice pattern with it. It all depends what, and how you are planning to fly it. On my 1.20 (2stroke) I fly it at 1/3 throttle most of the time, so flying it pattern with the 91 would be no problem at all. But you couldn't hover with the .91 I doubt.

i know what you are saying and in the f 90 i cut back the firwall 9/16 and put in a saito 150 and have all the power i need but in the showtime there is no way to cut back the fire wall and a bigger engine will stick to far out of the cowl not to mention 9 + ounces of extra weight this situation is making me nuts! i think for sanity sake ill just get rid of the damb thing but i see from the desgn that it has so much potential and i allways wanted to have a pattern plane from hell and this looks like it fits the bill

no hovering at 9 lbs with a 91 fx. my funtana with ys 120 weighs 8.82lbs.

Saito 120 fits fine and the cowl fits perfectly. I didn't even have to move the mount, just spread the stock mount out a little. No issues at all.

I have mounted a Thunder Tiger 1.20 and only had to move the blind nuts and widen the stock mount. Everything looks like it lines upfine.

in that case i am in error i only have two engines a saito 100 and a saito 180
any suggestions as to what i would need to do to make the 180 work if i could shoehorn that engine in the showtime i promiss ill stop crying and my apology for riding the same dead horse

how far does the propnut stick out past the cowl useing the saito 120 ?

:)My Funtana with a 6 ozs lighter engine, lite wheels, carbon fiber gear, mini servos, etc. weighed 9lbs 6ozs. How can yours weigh that little?

Well I put my order in... I think:-0... I gave them my pay info yesterday
and he said it would ship today.. But it looked like their closed today...
No phone or email.... Now what have I done:-(... I also put my 8 channel
flight pack 85/5645's through servo city.... Guess I'm going with the
stock hardware pack cept for mod on tail wheel spring setup and added
epoxy on wing tube and something on the SFG's if just CA....

I hope the money is well spent.... But keep it down... I have yet to break
the news to the boss....... Keep the reports coming:-)

The back of my Tru-turn spinner is about 1/4" from the cowl on the Saito 120. Use the stock engine mount but don't tighten it all of the way. Mount the engine, then tighten the mount. Works fine without moving blind nuts.

ok i finally gotten around to checking my incedence and weighing mine dry. and gluing my wing tube back in..

all looked fine on incedence untill i got to the right wing tip it is 2deg off with the root i thought it was the aileron twisted untill i did some leveling over the wing and standing behind it i can notice the twist. so i bet that is my reason for having to trim so much..

the lateral balance i checked and checked i couldnt get it to favor a side..

ok here is the weight with YS-110 are you ready..... 9lbs 1OZ,,,, this is without SFGs

Dilled...Nice Pics! Has it flown yet? I just received mine. I plan to use a Saito .91 I'm sure that will be enough for me...besides, That's what I have laying around (new in box) waiting for a plane.

:)Drumbum. Thank you for that weight. We can't see the bottom of the plane. Are you pushing up and taking weight off?!!?!? I'm wondering how the 110 is gonna be in mine. Does yours seem to hover ok?
Raideron. I think you'll be impressed with the quality of the ARF. I am. I think every ARF I see seems to be better. Of course I wouldn't even know how to check the incidence. Maybe all my planes are off. But I don't seem to see the trimming problems Durmbum is refering to. I've got all the hinges done on my plane. All Dubro pinned. I'm now working on the servos and engine. That is when I'm building and not flying the Yak or not doing family matters. Seems like I'm crawling through it. But I will get it. 9lbs??? Wish it was 8. But still lighter than the Funtanas.

no i wasnt pushing up[sm=lol.gif] i was holding the camera... mine has all stock hardware and nothing removed (like PANTS).. if you go lighter wheels, 86 the pants,cut tha underside of the canopy open,Those horn screws are pretty heavy you could go with lighter horns.you allready have lighter tailwheel assy,i think you could slip it under 8 pretty easy. i dont have the muffler on the YS im running a header and about 6 in of flex pipe. im also runing 6v w/KOKAM 1500 LiPos.

mine hovers fine. it dosent rocket out but it is enough to save it and pull out.it gains speed and it goes up after the hover, just not quite as fast as my UCD did at 8lbs 6 oz dry. If im too fat on the needle i can tell.. but also im running a 17x4W which i said before is a full LB of thrust less than the 16x6 on static results

well i just got through twisting and ironing.. all i have to do is wait untill saturday and see if my trim is closer to straight now on the ailerons after flying.. hope so.. it is on the money down both wings now on the meter.... i had to do a little twisting on the ailerons too.

when you get your wing halves together make the root end of the ailerons match the trailing edge then look at the tip compared to the aileron,, both of mine were slightly off. the iron fixed them both

Thanks YNOT, I bought some from horizon for a different project and they were sloppy on the servo's, or so I thought. Now I have flown a different plane (Extra 260) using the Futaba 3050 servo's and am noticing a lot of slop in the gears.

Anyone else noticed this problem with the Futaba metal gear servo's? My aileron tips move more then 3/8ths of an inch and there is no slop in the linkages, just the gears themselves.

All metal gear servo's develop slop....some more than other......but they all do it. I've been using the karbonite gear servo's by hitec for over 2 years now....they haven't developed one bit of slop....that's just my experience though.

Yeah, I know they do, but these are brand new servo's Just about everything I fly has Hitec servo's in it but on a whim I bought a dozen of these Futaba ones. Now I'm thinking it wasn't such a good idea. A lot of people badmouth Hitec servo's but I am a believer. Dollar for dollar, I think they are the best value out there.

Initially, Hitec recommended Karbonite servos for aircraft upto 1/4 scale. Now they aren't recommended on planes over 10lbs. I personally have seen them break gears on small model cars [X(]. I'd rather have a .01 of play in my MG gear train, than have no teeth at all in a Karbonite servo and risk loosing an entire aircraft. Obviously you've had a good run of luck, but personally I think Karbonite gears are a step backwards. In a nutshell, Hitec Karbonite geared servos are nowhere near as strong as they thought they were. Bear in mind that should a Karbonite servo fail in flight, Hitec will only replace or fix the faulty servo......like for like.

On the other hand, 5925 & 5945 servos are well worth the extra money over the karbonite alternatives, assuming one wants digital precision. Otherwise, 645 servos seem dependable and have decent performance for very little outlay. 615's in my experience are unreliable. I've seen them blow their IC's under perfectly normal conditions, without any warning. Hitec servos certainly offer more bang for your buck and I'm a big Hitec fan TBH. But having used many of their servos for various applications, I can tell you that some are more worthy than others.

Looking at the numerous horror stories here on RCU, it would seem people need to exercise caution if using these new Karbonite servos in aircraft over a few pounds.

I agree with you fully...I didn't want the slop....that's why I decided to try them........let's not turn this into a servo war....that'll ruin the thread.
