RE: Showtime
Hey all!
I am finishing my showtime with an Evolution 1.00, anyone using this combo? and what prop would be best for this plane and engine combo? I am using 645mg for the aileron and rudder, 8101's for the elevator. Trying to keep it light as possible Thanks for all your help! |
RE: Showtime
Hey Guys,
Started building mine last night. Not in any hurry though, since I need to put in an order for the servos and another receiver, est. The hard part will be explaining another $250.00 to the wife... Awesome plane, and I can't wait to get her airborne with all the rave I've heard on these threads. Thanks to all who have submitted reviews, and critiqued this plane. I will surely take the advice and heed all warnings...Thanks Again!! I'm off now to go install the "nutless" control horns... |

Got mine today!!! 11:30am
Went right to work on it! It's all hinged and the O.S. 1.08 is mounted with a pica P-51 muffler... check it out. Scott P.S. so far I only had to make the inside ring bigger |
RE: Showtime
Hi again people,
Barry.... My tubes slide in easy, and both seem tight while trying to move the ends... I like but hate decals thats already on:-) But I like it so far:D BoneDoc... This is my first "tube" type plane in my 16mo of flying... Is there not stops within the wing preventing the tube from sliding one way or the other?? So what is the reason for the painters tape mentioned above?? I do want a lower tail wheel setup... On the spring hook up.. I was thinking of fabing a little bell type setup and just installing at the normal screw point for the springs with two screws?? Or just order the piece I think I saw at Central Hobbies for it. Is anyone else having problems with spring breakages? I just had the fuse out fitting and looking for areas that I will add glue.. For the most part all looked to be pretty good... Guess I'll just use CA on some of the areas that have little or no glue and add more to the landing block area... along with epoxy on the tube Anyone using pressurized systems have the tank behind the wing tube?? Would that be a problem?? I was thinking again on the CA hinges since I have to order the pinned hinges.. But I guess I will go with the pinned... I have always wondered why a CA hinge would be cutout at the center I guess I know the reason, But seems to me it would weaken it more, out weighing hinge action, better bonding???? More so on this type of plane.... Am I missing something?? And lastly:D, On the stab. tube.... Is it a must to tap it?? Can you just screw another screw in for the tap?? So far I can't find anyone with a tap.. And I hate to buy it if I really don't need it.. Bear with me people... I just want to get it the best I can, So just incase.... I know it was just me.... |
RE: Showtime
Hello,
Just pick up a 4-40 tap/drill from Great Planes....its worth the $5.00. I used CA hinges, but I hate the cutout in the center so I always buy the Great Planes ones. After the serious flutter I had on my first Showtime,( the wing folded ) the hinges were still very tight, and there was no evidence of them pulling loose, so dont even worry about using the CA hinges ( just use the Great Planes ones so that you can stick a "T" pin in the center so the are even in the slots on both sides. The stock Carbon Fiber tailwheel assembly, although nice is TOO BIG for this plane! It is exactly the same as the one that came with my H9 Extra 260 that I just built. I used a Carl Goldberg "medium size" one on mine. I tried the stock one for a few flights, but the angle of attack was no good, and the plane didnt want to lift off....After the change, no problem. The springs are junk. I broke one putting it on the 260, so I replaced them. I didnt even use them on the Showtime. The rudder is large enough to not need any springs, and steering is no problem. The landing block is really strong, so unless you land really hard, its not a problem either..... Hope that helps |
RE: Showtime
Thanks BR289.... I'll look at G.P for the tap... Guess my "other" screw method
is not the greatest:-)... I have some "slit" CA hinges... But I think I'll go ahead and order the pinned and use them.... I have never had a CA hinge come out but some(6) split apart at the hinge line on my high use planes... Most likely my fault, I did have a good gap, and I used the caryon on the hinge line( I thought, if the CA wicks... What's the crayon going to do:-), but I tried it)... But the pinned just makes more sense for these types of planes for me.. I'm still in the air on the tailwheel setup... Was just going to order another C.F. setup.... But..... I've been looking online for parts to use the existing one by just replacing some parts... But I guess I have to call to get better info.. On the L.G. block... I did add some glue to it.... But it looked pretty good, and I am a "soft lander".... But this is the first "tapered" wing type for me, and I have not heard of any bad habits on landing so I don't really see any problems... I hope... I'm not the greatest parts or builder man[:o] at this stage of my RC life... And really I should have never got into this hobby... But as the Boss says You "love" doing this too much!!!..... What happened to just two planes for the first year[X(].... I said... I have two plane.... And...... Well I put the stock mount on and checked the fit with the YS 110/slimline pitts.... It'll fit... per the 5&3/4 spacing... But the pitt's does "slightly" touch the firewall????? |
RE: Showtime
sorry for your loss you might have luck if you send the plane back they might give you a new airframe
good luck |
RE: Showtime
Isn't Wednsday stupid question day? OK...Why on earth does H9 bother to percut servo holes in a plane, when you can't even fit a standard servo into them??? [:@] The same deal with my Twist! Go figure.
Glued up the control horns today...all seems good. They tell you to install wing tube and the wings and that's it. (now their in the way) They don't suggest a way to mount the tube into the fuse. I'm going to run a screw thru the fuse tube to secure it there dead center. Otherwise, as you pull off one wing, it will pull the tube from the other and cause trouble. That's how my other planes are done and it also makes for a nice handle to carry it by. On to the rear tube...See Ya! |

RE: Showtime
Cant really afford Futaba myself, much less JR. But hey...it's good stuff. But so is Hitec...
Thanks for your input...What a Guy! ;) |
RE: Showtime
You mean I have to shave to get my Hitec's in... D_m... Oh well
what ever will work for you:-))))... But I like my beard..... It's silver and black like... Have fun People:-))) drumbum... But say I CG it to 7&7/16... It should be ok??? Huh??? |

RE: Showtime
If you move the CG back, that makes it "tail" heavy...right? That's what you want for good 3D...right?
Readeron...If you try that far back....Let me know if you needed a trash bag at the end of the flight, and/or how many peices you took home.... |
RE: Showtime
Actually, I was wrong about the tap/drill bit....its from Dubro.......
|
RE: Showtime
My Manual maybe wrong... But that's how it reads on page 33 step one???
Is my manual wrong... Or is the heat taking it's toll??? BR289.... Got the dubro tap..... Thanks:-) |
RE: Showtime
ok i didnt remember what it was at the manual. that is where mine is at.. mine flies with a slight tailheavy feel. like its set at 3d CG at that point.
|
RE: Showtime
Thanks drumbum... I double checked and thats what is said... And I
guess that's where I'll start??? Unless others have it different.. I've flown my last two planes on the tail heavy side and I like it... The last being a UCD 46 at 6"... It needs some "push" on landings, and it climbs while inverted... But I like it...... |
RE: Showtime
this plane will fly like that, without having to land with down elevator and fly with precision,,, OH yea and 3d:D I was actually thinking of trying a little foreward from recommended just to see if it helps a little with wing rock in harriers, I still have a little. i noticed YNOT said his was a little foreward and he reports NONE.
|
RE: Showtime
Open Mouth...Insert Foot. Just read page 33 part 1...Wow that's far back! Nothing like my Laser or Giles. Guess it's that heavy taper... Sorry guys.
|
RE: Showtime
people say JR stuff is better, so should i switch brands? also, I'd like to know how that big block OS 1.08 beast of a motor does on this plane
