RE: Showtime
R/C...i'm guessing that you're too lean on the low end and you might want to richen it ...so that means turning the low end needle clockwise to richen on that engine....you might also have to open the regulator screw too if richening the low end needle doesn't work

RE: Showtime
On this engine, is all the way closed actually all of the way out? Then I set it 1 1/2 turns as a starting point?

RE: Showtime
:)RC Foolish. I've been through this so many times with my YS engines that it just stinks. But here's what I do, time and time again. Turn the main jet screw out to 1 1/2 turns. Turn the brass screw by the carb out exactly 1 1/2. This is the screw that is backwards. You turn it out to lean it and in to richen. The regulator screw is to be set flush (large screw on the bottom of the engine) or just SLIGHTLY up, slightly up, no more. Your super reliable, easy to tune, better than anything else, YS engine will now run. It will smoke like crazy, I'm assumeing you are using a minimum of 20% nitro, 20% oil, 30% Nitro is better. If not, stop right there and get you the good fuel. You can tell the good fuel because it is more expensive than everything else. Anyways, it will run there. You need to get 10 to 12 tanks of fuel through it to break in the diaphram and check valve. Usually they will run a little better after that. Don't try to lean the engine any more than the 1 1/2 turn out on the main. It will just quit. It will smoke and you will think you are rich, but you are not. Once it runs, never touch it. They are very sensitive and it will deadstick. But if you will just leave it alone you'll like it.
Thanks, Barry |
RE: Showtime
Thanks Barry, Iwas stting the main and the low end to 1 1/2 correctly but then I was going ccw to richen it up. Now I know what to do to fix it. Gets a little confusing but so far I love the engine. Much more power for the weight. Do you think a 17x4W APC is too much prop?

RE: Showtime
17x4w is what im running on mine,, well was:(

RE: Showtime
Hey Guys,
All this Y.S. talk reminded me I forgot to mention something in my maiden post. Since I'm running a Satio 1.00......I was a little worried about pushing the fuel tank back against the wing tube without running some sort of pump. I am happy to report that I had no fuel draw problems in the ground test or in the air wihtout a pump. Thought I would post this for future Satio installers so that it may be of some use. Neo Out!!!! |
RE: Showtime
:)I'm trying the 16.5x5W which is a new prop. First time I've used it. I'll let you know how it works. I've used a 17x4W with good success and a 16x6 which is kinda the standard. I like the 17x4W better sometimes, especially for hover. But I like the 16x6 too. Depends a little bit on the plane but it will pull a 17x4W just fine.
thanks Barry |
RE: Showtime
:)Just finished my Showtime. I used the pull/pull rudder set up. I still had to mount the battery right above the landing gear to balance at 7 7/16". Very pretty airplane. It seemed like everything is kinda clustered together, battery, receiver, fuel tank, and the rudder servo. Kinda all bunched up but I guess it will be ok. I did not mount the wheel pants. My overall weight is 8lbs 12ozs ready to fly less fuel and without SFGs. My scale shows the SFGs to weigh 2.4ozs. So with the SFGs I'd be 8lbs 14.4ozs. I haven't mounted them yet because my maiden flights will be without them and then I will install. It will be a challenge for the 110 to fly this plane with authority. Maybe ok with the temp under 80 buy above that I'll be in trouble. This plane is in the ballpark, for weight, of my Yak. It weighs 8lbs 10ozs. The YS stuggles a little bit with that when it's hot, but the Yak is more "chucky" to pull around. (more wind resistance) I should be able to fly tomorrow sometime.
I was just thinking/comparing this to my Funtana. The advertised weight is 8-9 lbs. I'm right in there with one of the heavier engines. I did nothing special except went to lighter tires which save a couple of ozs. The Funtana weighed almost 10 lbs on my initial build. I was able to get it down to 9lbs 6ozs with great effort. It still needed reinforcment on the tail section, new tail wheel and other stuff. The Funtana should be called a 120 size airplane and powered by a 150+ engine. This plane is over a pound lighter than the initial build of the Funtana. So far I haven't heard any reports of weakness either. They were coming in by the dozens with the early Funtana thread. I'm looking forward to flying this baby. And.......then the dreaded comparison we've all been waiting for. To the Extreme Flight Yak! We'll see how she stacks up. Thanks, Barry |
RE: Showtime
Hey Barry, any chance of posting a pic. of the radio compartment? I too will go with the pull-pull, and was wondering where to place things. since they don't show complete model in book. Wondering about the throttle servo...
Thanks! |
RE: Showtime
I would definitely be interested in the comparison to the EF Yak. Good thing that this isn't the Yak thread or else, you'd be stoned for such heresy :D.

RE: Showtime
Just got the Showtime for my son. We are using the YS110 and Hitec 6975's from our EF YAK to install in the showtime. The EF YAK will go into mothballs or the Marketplace soon. So far we are impressed with the quality of the ARF.

RE: Showtime
I'd be interested in the Yak for the right price!

RE: Showtime
:)BoneDoc. Yeah, I'm interested to see which plane I like the best. I will fly the Showtime about 20 times and then do a mini review. I did that on my Yak and rated it as "B" and I thought they were gonna send out a hit man. For heavens sake, it's just an airplane. And I like the Yak, I just don't think it's a perfect airplane. I will do the same for the Showtime and give it a fair and honest opinion from an intermediate 3D pilot's standpoint. I'll have the Yak and the Showtime side by side flown by myself for the comparison. Should be fun. But, I won't post on the Yak thread. To much frustration over there. All they want to hear is they have the best plane in the world, bar none. It can't be improved anyway. Of course, in reality they have to change the landing gear, reinforce the canopy mounting, change the wheels, replace the wing tube, reinforce the cowl mounting, but somehow, those are things they wouldn't change. Afterall, the Yak is perfect.
Extra Addict, I bought two of the 16.5 x 5W props. I got them directly from APC. Landing Products, Inc PO Box 938 Knights Landing, California 95645 Phone: 530-661-0399 Fax: 530-666-6661 Price: 12.95 each I don't think many of the hobby stores have them in yet. I haven't even started the engine with it on yet so I can't offer any opinion but it sounds like a good prop size to me. I always was back and forth between the 16x6 or the 17x4W. Maybe this will be the perfect mix. I gonna run a tank through the YS today at noon to do a little break in and hopefully fly the plane this evening. I really can't wait. Thanks, Barry |

RE: Showtime
Barry...Thanks for the pics.
Good Luck with the test flight. I can't wait to maiden mine, but it will be a short while for that... Just picking at it, and in no real hurry. Some guys are quite antsy and build them overnight...lol. I only wish I had the time. Besides...I'm out of room in my hanger. I either need to sell a few...or start crashing more often. Happy Landings Guys!! |
RE: Showtime
:)Well, too windy to fly tonight, 30+MPH. At least a little windy for me to do a maiden. But I decided to break in the YS and I thought, hey, I wonder what that new 16.5x5W will do for me. So I purchased a digital fish scale and hooked up the plane to my deck and had at it. I wish I hadn't. Here are my pitiful results.
Temp - 80 F 16.5x5W = 8600 RPM @ 12lbs 0ozs thrust 16x6 = 9400 RPM @ 12lbs 2 ozs thrust 17x4W = 9700 RPM @ 11lbs 2ozs thrust 16x4W = 9800 RPM @ 11lbs 2 ozs thrust 15x7 = 10100 RPM @ 10lbs 4 ozs thrust What a disappointment. Not even a 1.5:1 ratio. No wonder I having problems getting the Yak to waterfall. Just simply not enough power. Don't know exactly where to go from here. It'll fly the plane fine and will 3D but pull out isn't going to be that great. Maybe back to the Mayhem or the UCD with a 110. Thanks Barry |
RE: Showtime
:)Hey, I just had a thought...Yeah it happens once in a while, Ha Ha. Anyways, anybody have any experience in cutting the 16.5 down to 16" I'm thinking that would allow my RPM to increase and still keep the 5W angle. That would help with thrust, or would it?
THanks Barry |
RE: Showtime
Is the YS new? I don't know if I would trust those figures or not it might be the scales. I have always heard of guys getting 15 +pounds of thrust from the 110 and a 17X4W. If it doesn't I am gonna be pretty upset because I just bought one from the LHS friday[:@]
|
RE: Showtime
:)Brand new. About 30 minutes run time. I actually saw an increase in thrust over the 30 minutes. I think it's my elevation. I'm at 4800'. But it's very disappointing to me.
Thanks, Barry |
RE: Showtime
well you were thinking.....
I was too.. and i think im going to try on my next showtime.. a YS 140L. The reason in thinking is I feel they guys with the heavier motors are not getting wing rock and from their videos. My 140 is on my F90 right now. the showtime has the clearence for the 18x6W. i can swap the 110 over to the funtana and try the 16.5x5W on that.... I am not set yet on that. like i said i was just thinking:D |
