RE: Showtime
what about it??;)
Personally I am not a huge fan of Evo engines, but that is just my personal opinion:D if the power is in the range of the others and the weight is in the same range too...I'm sure it will be fine |
RE: Showtime
Hey Fellas,
I just maidened mine E-Showtime last night @ Sunset. I also have a nose heavy plane with the Pull-Pull. I am thinkin about moving it to the tail. Hey Tork I use a Futaba Super Cap 9 Radio but I still would like to know your settings. I need to learn as much as I can. For instance my aileron settings are way below what the manuel says to use. My High Rates are set to what the book call out for Low rates. On my Maiden last night, just to check settings, it turned great on Low rates (no SFG's). Thanks! This sure is great thread!! I hope all you Showtime guys keep it going. It's a great source of info plus some of you Gents are really funny:D!! Magoo |
RE: Showtime
Where's the best C.G point in the Showtime for best 3D but yet, without too much snaps ?
Thank's Eran. |
RE: Showtime
so far for CG...I have used the manuals suggested CG....
Question... I have been flying with a Saito 100... not a rocket ship, but plenty for practicing IMAC and just about everything except rocketing out of a hover (I have a Katana Profile for that!) Well... my Saito is in for some repairs... a friend offered to let em use his .91 Tiger Shark 2 stroke for a while..... any thoughts on how this bird would fly with a .91 2 stroke? Which prop might be good? Like I said I was happy with the Saito 1.00.... so, do you think the .91 2 stroke would be better, worse, or about the same as the saito 1.00?? Cheers Exeter |
RE: Showtime
Hey Tork,
When are you going to post your settings?:) You are obviously one of the better pilots on this thread....please post what you are willing to share with us:D! Regards, Magoo |

Been using Powermaster 20/20 with an APC 15 x 6 prop.... It flew very well... not unlimited..but plenty for just about everything else

Thats was quick... I was thinking of the same fuel mix and same prop... cheers!!!

RE: Showtime
Barry,
I'm flying almost the exact same setup. The only difference is I'm using a 8611A in the tail for the rudder. I know, it's overkill but it's what I had laying around. I too started on pull-pull and it was way to nose heavy. Since I moved the servo to the tail, I'm dead on the recommended CG and it flies much better. inverted is a lot nicer to deal with. I use a Fromeco 4800Mah Li-Ion sitting right next to the fuel tank on the opposite side of the Preformance Specialties muffler with the superreliaswich/regulator tie wrapped to the wing tube. This batt setup has allowed me to fly multiple flights between recharge. It started life in my funtana90 and I'm pretty certain I went bout 10 flights between recharge and I still could have done more The only problem I have now is the exhuast valve on my 110 bent so I now have to tear the engine out and send it off to YS [:@] All I need to do is get over to the Hidden Hangar and pull the original receipt because the engine is not even a year old and I lost my copy of the reciept. I'm pretty sure I met you over there this past Saturday. I was the one that bought the GP Ultimate. |
RE: Showtime
Hi there,
I've been watchning this thread since its early posts. I'm about to finish my Showtime, I left it on the bench for some time as I had some other obligations. In early posts is mentioned that if someone uses a lighter engine such as Saito 100 or YS-110 should place the rudder servo inside the fuselage using a pull pull system. Now it seems that things have changed, even people with lighter engines place the servo at the tail. I plan to use a pull pull system that's why asking. I have istalled a YS-110 in front with JR DS-8425 servos at the tail same weight as the 8411MG and a bit heavier than Hi-Tecs. Does the plane come nose heavy with the YS-110 for 3D? I want to fly a little bit of precision with it not only 3D. I don't really care if it struggles in hover or drops the nose, I want it to harrier well though this is the key in 3D IMO. According to your experience where should I place the rudder servo? Has anyone tried both configurations with the above setup? Looking forward to replies, Nick |
RE: Showtime
I have the YS-110 on mine and all servos in the tail. Useing a 6.0 volt battery just behind the servo tray to balance, no extra lead added.

RE: Showtime
Flew my showtime for the first time on wednesday in the uk. Flew great with a saito 100 up front. Fitted a smoke system really good fun with that. Keep up the good work chaps:D
Pull stick back houses get smaller push stick forward houses get bigger |
RE: Showtime
Lancaster,
I'd love to put a smoke sys. on my ShowTime. I'm running the Saito .91, and can't seem to find a smoke muffler. Any leads??? Your help would be highly appreciated...Thanks! The ST is an awesome flying plane and I'm sure that you will come to love it more with each flight...Enjoy! |
RE: Showtime
:)Nickolas...I'm using the YS110 with HiTec metal gear servos. I put my rudder servo in the fuse with the pull/pull. Mine balances right at the recommended CG with the 4.8 battery just slightly forward of the CG. I'm using a mini servo for the throttle and have the tank on the CG so this helps keep the weight back.
All I can say is mine would have been tail heavy with the rudder servo in the tail. Thanks Barry |
RE: Showtime
guys, c'mon does this plane really need high torque servos all around? 100 dollar servos? i have a quarter scale gasser katana and i am using regular ol hitec 425?s for elev, ail, and a 81 mg for throttle and a high torque metal gear (hitec, cant remember model number) on rudder. never had a problem yet and this is just a 90 size plane! i fly 3-d only and i need some honest advice, i am not big on 4 strokers no offence, just had better luck on 2 strokes (less moving parts etc.) so,...... engine will be thunder tiger pro 120 w/ invert slimline pitts and probabally same hitec setup as my katana do i really need 250 plus in/oz of torque?
btw, excellent thread all 46 pages! read every one! keep it up fellas |
RE: Showtime
supernova,
There is always two ways to do things, your way and everyone elses way. If you feel comfortable with lesser rated servos then go for it. I didn't spare any expense on mine and it has flown flawlessly for 2 months now. Engine and servo choice is always a subjective thing. R/C Foolish |
RE: Showtime
425's on a quarter scale??
Wow... You have more guts than me..... I'm using 5645's on mine (and an HS-81mg on the throttle) |
RE: Showtime
Hey did you guys see the new Saito 125, its same size as the 100 but more power than the 120. It even say to put it in the Showtime. Plus its says up to a 17-6 prop :D
Matt |
RE: Showtime
:)mattflyer...Yeah I've seen that engine. Very interesting. I think I'll try one. A month ago I would have bought 5 of them to replace my YS but now I've got them running. Finally. Anyways, I'm going to get at least one of the Saitos just to compare. I'll put a 16x6 prop on mine and do a thrust check and RPM and see how it compares to the YS. It'll be very interesting. My best thrust with the YS is 13lbs 4ozs at about 9400RPM give or take. In comparison I ran my Saito 100 with 15x6 prop and got 10lbs 8ozs at about 10000RPM.
This engine has sparked a lot of interest. I think it will be a winner. And if it's got that famous Saito reliability and ease of operation....WOW! I'm looking forward to it. Thanks Barry |
RE: Showtime
:)I'm gonna start flying my Showtime again. Been flying my UCD46 that I brought back from the grave. What fun that airplane is. But...I've only got two or three weeks of flying season left (GAG) and I'm gonna finish it up with the Showtime. Been missing the great KE flight. But I needed a break from the ST because I was getting bugged by that "dead spot". Gonna work on that particularly and see if I can see what's causing it and maybe fix.
Had some great midday flights the past two weeks because our weather has been perfect. Took a 2 hour lunch and did about 2-3 flights almost everyday. What fun. We're talking 65-70 degrees and absolutely no wind. Wow. Great time. I about wore the UCD out. Hopefully we'll get more of the same next week. I'm gonna try for Monday and I'll take the Showtime. Looking forward to it. Thanks Barry |
RE: Showtime
i fitted the smoke injector directly into the standard muff by tapping a hole into the muffler. I use the sullivan smoke system with the byron smoke fuel. Seems to work well the smoke system cost me $70 dollars. Just engines in the uk sell ready to smoke mufflers for saito engines. WWW.justengines.co.uk
Thanks mark |
RE: Showtime
Barry. Can I ask a question. I am looking for some comments on the UCD 46 or 60 or even the 120 versus the ST. I have been flying for 2 years. Lots of time in a trainer, and the last 4 months with a Twist. I just love that Twist. It has taugth me a lot about flying but yet is easy to land. So now I am looking to move up a notch.
I have been following this ST forum for some time now, and am considering purchasing one. I really like the looks of the ST and the reviews that I have read. But 2 things have occured. This dead spot that you refer to, and when I went to my LHS the other day, I asked them what might be a good step up from my Twist. They strongly recommended the UCD 60. I asked about the ST. Again they recommended the UCD over the ST. They had both in stock. Do you have any comments on this issue. Remember I do not really do the 3D stuff. Just doing lots of crazy aerobatices, and want a plane that I can take to the field have some fun, and returrn the next day and do it again. Naturally I will try to grow into more 3D stuff. I am starting to think that perhapse the UCD should be my first step up from the Twist then the ST? Any comments from any contributors would be greatly appreciated. Thank you I live in Ontario Canada, but we get to spend several months in Florida in the winter, so my second flying season starts tomorrow! Yahoo !! Jim Tucker |
RE: Showtime
jim
i can say that if you can handle a twist (on high rates) you can fly almost any conventional monowing airplane. i also have a twist and aside from my now sold funtana it has the fastest roll rate of any of my 3-d planes with authoritive elevator control as well. the thing you will have to remember is that usually a larger plane will land a little faster than a 40 size 3-d plane with a 2 1/2" thick wing (the twist). as long as you are comfortable with tuning engines to run well and as you say, you are also comfortable with your twist, you should be fine. i went from my twist to a gas katana quarter scale and had no problems at all except feeling out the higher stall speed which only took a few landings. |
RE: Showtime
:)Jim...Man that's a tough question. I like both planes alot. The UCD is a little harder to carry to the field. (one piece wing) The other negative on the UCD is the fuel tank on the 60 size is a little high. If you don't have a pumped engine or a pump on your engine it will leak fuel. More of a nuisance than a real problem. The YS110 is the perfect engine for both planes I think. But if you're gonna fly with a Saito 100 than the UCD is better because it's a pound lighter. The Showtime does better kinfe edges than the UCD and I'm sure much prettier rolling harriers, circles etc. The UCD will fly slower, do better flat spins, and will land easier. It has no bad habbits and the Showtime has that odd "snapping" "dead zone" that can be a problem but really not that big of a deal.
Another engine that is going to be great on either of the two above planes is the new Saito 125 due out in December. But the YS will be available for a short time in November. If you really want one I'd call Central Hobbies and put one on backorder. They get more than anybody and can usally fill all their backorders and still have a few left for sale. The UCD 46 is about my favorite plane. I've been flying my recently repaired one for the past two weeks. Having a great time with it. It has absolutely no bad habits (will blow around a lot in wind however) is very easy to fly. It's a real step up from the Twist yet is in the same class. (I had a Twist also) I have a Saito 82 on mine. Love this plane. It will land easier than the Twist and is easier to do hover, waterfall, flat spin etc. Given how you described your flying I would tell you to buy the UCD46 put a Saito 82 on it, use a 14x4W prop and I'd never look back. Fly the UCD for a year than get the Showtime. That's what I'd advise you to do. You'd never be sorry for owning a UCD46. I'll never be without one. And I've had five. Thanks Barry |
RE: Showtime
Hey Barry.... Great advise above... On the snapping problem on the S.T....
Has it ever happened to you while landing???? Keep us updated on what you may find..... As you know my S.T. is still in the box.... Guess I'm letting ya'll ring it out before putting mine together:D |
