Elevators have wing rock also... Although not as bad

I'm going to recheck the CG and possibly move it aft and fly tomorrow night and see what happens... I'll try some more harriers and elevators and see what I can come up with.

I have flown many flights with my ST and today I noticed that the firewall is developing a little flex to it. Can anyone tell me a good way to reinforce it.

tristocks.

Bonddoc

Can you give me a little more detail on the "tristocks" and where and how are they installed?

Sorry, that is BoneDoc

I haven't work on my ST for a while now, but basically, anywere there's a 90 degree joint, just add triangular piece of balsa on both sides of that to strengthen that joint.

That is the first time I see somebody install tri stock in 90 degree corners [sm=rolleyes.gif]. It is amazing how creative people can be...

I believe the firewall is flexing in the middle, I basically want to double it, or maybe someone has a better Idea

the mount is flexible. when i tork on my prop shaft, the engine can move very far. also, right after startup, when the engine stumbles a little, it moves like crazy.

i put an OS 160 on now.

BoneDoc 08-24-2006 08:35 PM

RE: Showtime

How does it fly with an OS 160?

like a missle.

That's putting in mildly. Several days ago when he still had the Saito 150 on it someone added an altimeter to it to see how high he could get. Well he got it to just over 2000 feet but he had to level it once or twice. Tonight I witnessed whaturi doing the same thiing but the difference was he never once had to level out, it just kept going and going and never seemed to even slow down, Oh yea, it was doing it in a big hurry[sm=omg_smile.gif]

The next time he comes out of a hover, I'm calling NASA, this thing could go out of site in a big hurry, if you ever wanted to see a glow plane that has silly foamy power, then install an OS160 into this thing and use an APC 18X6W. It's one heck of a combo

JPal101 08-24-2006 09:21 PM

RE: Showtime

How can you even see it at 2000 feet. A small black dot in the air?

bubbagates 08-24-2006 09:27 PM

RE: Showtime

It really wasn't too bad.

BoneDoc 08-24-2006 10:35 PM

RE: Showtime

how does it affect other flight characteristics though? I'm all for silly power, but not at the expense of heavy wingloading. Is it still as stable at hover / high alpha stuff? Does it snap more easily / as cleanly?

RE: Showtime

One more thing, will the stock gear handle it ok?

whaturi 08-25-2006 06:17 AM

RE: Showtime

well, it took it off the perfect cg point i had before with the 150. i need to mover the battery back now. the enigne added about an ounce and a half over the saito, but the prop seemed to add a good deal of weight also, and that is weight at the very end. so it was to niose heavy for how i like it. i could harrier it like that, but i can't give you a real flight report until i fly it on the right cg. i had it hovering a foot off the ground, that wasn't any different, ecept now i need a bit more right thrust. i would say it doesnt change anything really. it's on the upper weight limits for this plane, but works very well if you want an animal. my problem is i am not used to the thottle response of a 2 stroke, so it's going to take a few flights before i "feel" the plane. pretty fun though.

i just weighed it and it is 9 pounds 10.5 ounces with a 1450 nimh battery and 5645 servos.

im going to put the 150 back on. i guess i am just used to 4 stroker thottle response.

I think you're nuts. It looks like you were having a blast with the 160. Just give it a chance to get better broken in

whaturi 08-25-2006 09:05 PM

ill just have to find something else for the 160... uh oh

use fiber glass cloth and fiber glass resin

it would be strong as an ox

what are you guys using for replacement landing gear? My landings have been not quite the thing lately and I need to replace my stock gear. I also need to rebuild the bottom side force generators. I was thinking to get some cheaper gear that maybe is a little taller -- a couple ounces heavier wont' bother me --- has anyone done this?
