RE: Showtime
JPal101, I was all over when I first flew mine... But then I went to the recommended, and
I'm pretty much still there, I never rechecked.. After getting my balance right, my batt was at the Frt. side of the tank, my tretra Tk is against the wing tube 7 7/16 for me... Now my 5v battery is just aft below the wing tube |
RE: Showtime
vigilant of what???
|
RE: Showtime
Thanks 7 7/16 it is. By the way do you have a pic of how you installed the tank? And are you using a 5 cell batt
|
RE: Showtime
You guys are talking about ca hinge failures.
Did they actually tear or did they come unglued and slip out on one side? |
RE: Showtime
Another ??? I have been flying almost 2 years now. I have always used 4AA rechargeable batt.(= 4.8v) for my Receiver. The other day I visited a man that has been into RC Planes for 30 years. He builds all his from scratch and his specialty is biplanes. The largest one has a 4m WS.(ca. 12ft) Anyway he told me he always uses 5 recharg. cells(6v, but more than 7v when fresh charged) and no voltage regulator. I thought you would burn the servos up with more than 6v?? He said the servos can handle it and that digis put more strain on the batt. anyway . He also mentioned if you have several different servo inputs at one time that they get less volts anyway and with his servos on such long extensions due to the size of plane it seems logical to me. Any electrician/flyers out there for a second opinion?
|
RE: Showtime
The issue is not with the servos but with the receiver. The receiver is designed to take a maximum of 7 volts. A freshly charged 6 volt pack can be well above that. A regulator is always a good idea and is cheap insurance.

ORIGINAL: JPal101 Thanks 7 7/16 it is. By the way do you have a pic of how you installed the tank? And are you using a 5 cell batt My tank is pretty much the same as the electronics but, i just cut out a simple tank mount that is glued into the bottom of the plane, which the tank is just zipped tied in place. I did redesign the tank mount as my other just flexed to much. Under hard maneuvers, some of the glue joints started coming undone. |
RE: Showtime
p51delta: I had an elevator come off in flight because the hinges actually tore apart. The hinge halves stayed where they were glued.
Now, I use a 2500 mah or 2100 mah 6V battery for my Rx in all of my planes. I use Futaba PCM receivers and I have not burned one out yet after a LOT of use, so I think they're just fine and I know a lot of people using them. |
RE: Showtime
ORIGINAL: p51delta You guys are talking about ca hinge failures. Did they actually tear or did they come unglued and slip out on one side? Mine a tore down the center. Looking at my transmitter timer today, I have 89 hours of TX time, just on the new TX I bought last June; and around half of that is the Showtime, so I am not disappointed in the CA hinges failing. I just learned to put Robarts or Dubros in from the start, next time. I had no idea I would like this plane this much. I really am hard on the poor thing...and I fly it A LOT!! |
RE: Showtime
OH,
...and I run 2400MAH 7.4V lithiums regulated to 6V. http://www.fromeco.org Works GREAT with not so much as a glitch in like 12 gallons of fuel. |
RE: Showtime
Im currently running the Nobs 6v 4/5 AVP (i think) and fully charged my throttle servo hates it. If i quickly advance or release the throttle, I get kinda of a jerky response. However, as soon as the battery drains a little the jerkiness stops. I may add a regulator on the battery later on, but so far i just jiggle the surfaces for a little to use the extra power.

go vertical...
Well... That's "sort" of out of RCing.... But not really..... It's part of my sig, that I have on my email... Not enough room here... But since you asked here's whats on my normal email sig:) **** Vigilant****.. The Word and Action of our times! Let's all do our part to be as Safe as possible! JPal101,
The battery I'm using is a Hobbico HydriMax 6.0V 1650mAh Flat U Sanyo Not sure if you read the earlier threads... But the above batt. started life in the ST just in frt. of the tail mounted servos..... So much for the "fingers" at the wing tip method:(... Talk about tail heavy.... And at the recomm. it was where I said, side Frt. of tank, and now it's on the buttom just aft. of the wing tube... Here's some pics.. |
RE: Showtime
Thanks Raideron, I think that is about where I had the first one. Maybe a little more forward just behind the landing gear . I am also going to use a 110, previously I had a Saito 125 but never liked it and had a lot of trouble with it. What prop are you using?

Here's how it is now... I may move it back still a little...
110/APC17X4W |
RE: Showtime
That makes a lot of sense, since the 110 weighs a bit more than the 125. Does it balance neutral with your configuration?
|
RE: Showtime
P-Diddy,
Are you using 6v (5 cells) without voltage regulator? |
RE: Showtime

p51delta,
Yes, I use 5 cell NiMh batteries on all my Rx's, (6V) without regulators. I have not had one fail on me yet nor have I had a servo die as a result. I've been using one old Futaba 138DP receiver, two new ones, and one 167DF (I think?) and all of them run fine on 6 volts. Hey, today I had my lowest hover in a plane to date, (other than the little electric ones, those don't really count!). A buddy took some photos of the flight but didn't get the really low hover. Still, they're not bad photos! And, he took a short video with his digital camera so that I can prove that it actually happened... |

I never rechecked it, It did when I had the battery between the tank and bulkhead with the end of the battery at the Frt. of the Tk... I'm going to move it aft of my rec. I had the battery just below the end of the canopy bulkhead early on and I thought it was a bit too touchy for me... But I may like it now??? Looking good P-Diddy |
RE: Showtime
Hey raideron.
I see you are using an APC17X4W with a Tru Turn spinner, is that the TT-2282-B-W or the 120 version (TT-2282-B-120) with "Special Slotting Option"? I have the YS 110 and the TT-2282-B-W( Wide Blade APC Props: 13 x 6 to 15 x 6 and 16 x 4 Max) I like to know since Im thinking on having a pull-pull for my Rud and the smaller version Weight may need the help of the servo for a good balance. I see you have all your servos on the tail and have good CG with a 17X4W. |
RE: Showtime
Nice Pics P-Diddy

RE: Showtime
Hi hellblastervolly,
I beleive I have a 2502BW... I started out with tail mounted servos because my plan was to use the hyde soft mount with a slimeline pitts on the 110.. But I ended up with the stock mount and muffler.. And she balanced great with the 6v next to the Frt. side of the tank... I gues the pull/pull would be good also you just have to move a bit back to get the recommended balance + I like the APC 17x4W, I tried the 16X6.. It had more thrust, but I always go back.... The 17x4W will get you over the recommended RPM range of the 110, at least it does for me at about sea level.. So have to keep that in mind... |
RE: Showtime
My plan is to use the Hyde mount and pitts also, what was your balance issue that made you return to the stock setup.
|
RE: Showtime
JPal101... Well it was not a balance issue(I think)... It's just that I had it in the box for
months reading about the flight issues and since it is my first 90 size, I was waiting for "fixes"... Well that never came... So as I always do, I was in a wait, wait lets insure all is right, then went to the lets get this up mode.... :-) So it ended up with all the stock equip. just to get her done instead of the small mods to fit said equip. in.. And the Hyde/ pitts was what I got with my EF YAK, which I still plan to use it on, when ever I get around to the repairs... It's only been about a year now :-(.... But it ended up free, so I have time ...:) Ohh, and I have not encountered any issues yet... Man I hated to say that[8D] |
RE: Showtime
Thanks raideron Ill try the pull-pull since your spiner is about 2.1 oz and mine is just 1.73 oz. Im also using the stock mount and muffler and the batt don't have it yet. Ill give a try also to the APC 17x4W maybe it will work good for me to :D, I have a 16X6 and 16X4W haven't try this one yet since Im grounded for the moment ( Lord Winter need to go).
You have the EF YAK and for free Grrr "rub it in" lol |
