RE: Showtime
Checked the airframe today, fuselage and wings seem ok. The ailerons have some warp, I will try with the iron to make them straight. It is not only a matter of covering but construction. If they don't get straight with heat, I will tear the covering beneath and try to reconstruct them where needed.
YS-110 is on its way:). Now I'm on the servo selection I think of Dig JR-8425 (same with 8411) on elavator and rudder and HiTec 5945 or 5925 on ailerons. Any opinions? Is a 14oz tank enough for the 110? I think of getting a special YS high pressure tank by MK or Tetra. |
RE: Showtime
ORIGINAL: zvika Does anyone here suffers from Metal Gear backlash that allow the surfaces move 1-3 MM ? we use hitec 645 MG , had the same problem with the funtana 90 |
RE: Showtime
yup its about 1/16 to 1/8 inch comparing to the usual 1/32.
The backlash makes the plane buzz at low RPM. |
RE: Showtime
Hello Showtimers!
I am getting mine together and was wondering how big of a control arm did you guys use on your servos? I am using Hitec 5625's on the ailerons and the elevators. I am thinking about using 1 1/2" arms on the elevator but am not sure if this is neccesary? Anyone try this? matt |
RE: Showtime
1" is enough for full throw

Just curious, would something like the one below be ok or the holes are too small for the ball links included?
JR 40MM ALLOY SINGLE OUTPUT ARM HEAVY DUTY RED ANODISED ALLOY HALF OUT PUT ARM, A MUST FOR LARGE MODELS & HIGH TORQUE SERVOS. ARM COMES PRE DRILLED WITH 1.6mm HOLES BUT CAN BE DRILLED & TAPPED M2 OR M3 FOR SOLID SLOP FREE LINKAGES. AVAILABLE IN RED ONLY. |
RE: Showtime
Nickolas, that arm would be fine but it needs to be redrilled & tapped for 4-40 screws to work with the supplied hardware.

RE: Showtime
Been working on my Showtime a little at the time, trying to get all the stuff collected to finish it. There are a couple of things I've found that has me concerned.
One is the fit of the horizontal stab. It doesn't seem to be tight. There a slight wobble front to back, which could cause flutter. At first, I thought it was the way I drilled to holes for the screws. But, I turned the pipe 180 degrees and redrilled everything, keeping the stabs pressed snug against the fuse. There's still some play. Anyone just glued the stab on? Second, the stab isn't exactly in line with the wing. It I sight down the top of the stab and wing, there's a bit of a twist, with the right stab being lower than the left. This really doesn't matter hat much for 3D, but if I start trying precision stuff, it will be a lot tougher to get everything trimmed. I'll be using a Saito 150 in mine. The muffler was hitting the firewall, so I cut a half-moon out of the firewall and the fuse bottom, lined the cutout with 1/16" balsa and covered it. Worked pretty well, and looks good. |
RE: Showtime
Joebob,
I glued the stabs in because they would not sit flush with the fuse, and I didn't want the gap there. Since I don't need to remove them for storage it didn't matter much to me. |
RE: Showtime
I did that too. FWIW though, in my Extra 260, there's a lot of play, but it doesn't seem to affect the overall performance.

RE: Showtime
I have similar issues, and since I know I won't be taking it apart, I've decided to epoxy them together.
|
RE: Showtime
I didn't have alignment problems, but the stabs did have some play in them. I think gluing them doesnt do any harm, as most planes this size do have permanent stabs. Plus I prefer the fact that they are now less likely to take off on their own in mid flight :D
If your going to glue them inplace then you can redrill the holes for the carbon tubes to get them aligned. |
RE: Showtime
how close are you to maidening this ST with the mvvs 1.6? Just very curious to getting a flight report on it!!!
Thanks, Neo |
RE: Showtime
NeoGenesis,
Have finished most of the assembly, except for the fuel tank and engine, waiting for the the local agent for MVVS to run it in for me. Hoepfully it will be up this weekend, and I will let you guys know. I expect it will fly well, but of ocurse not as well as a lighter setup, but hopefully without any bad snapping tendencies. (fingers crossed) Can i get some info on what is the amount of throws you guys are using on high rates and low rates?? so I have a starting point. Prefer using actual setups than the manual recommendation :D |
RE: Showtime
Hi all,
Just finished my Showtime and thought i'd let you know that it will be powered by a Moki 135. I will weigh it tonight when I get home. I had no build problems or alignment issues. My stabs were so tight I was concerned they would break when I installed them:D Simon |
RE: Showtime
Hi Guy's and Gals:
Flew maiden flight on Showtime today. Saito 1.50, 5 - HS-5645MG Digital Torque Servos. Five cell JR 2400MA battery. Saito 1.50 as you all know needs a cut out in bottom of fusalage for muffler. Used toilet paper center cardboard cut in half to fill space and then 4 layers of glass cloth inside with West epoxy. Prop is a APC 17X5W. It does go vertical. Flew perfect. Wide open at times but with that prop not fast but still really moves out. 2 flights. Quit to take home and check everything. Next flights will be with SFG. The best ARF I have ever built. Dave |
RE: Showtime
Hey Dave, do you think the Saito 1.50 will overspeed with an APC 17x4W prop? Thankx

RE: Showtime
My showtime has a moki 1.35 inverted on it. had to move the stock tank due too the fact that the fuel would just flow out the carb. So moved the tank back to the wing tube put in a 2 oz header tank and a Conely pump. Have a 90 degree bisson pit muffler on it and order a inverted one so it should be completly in cowl. have 6 flights on it and flies great. No engine outs Unlimited verticle. hovers and pulls out no more then 1/2 throttle.
did not Weight it yet. Dislikes: Put Hitec 5645 dig. servo all around and the carbon control horn seems to twist. So ordered alumium horns. Stab halves comes lose after a couple of flights so probaly will epoxy them to fuse. Tail wheel is very sloppy. But used it. Plane will flip over when alot of elevator is used. Very bad habit This is my first attempt with 3d so I cannot comment on that part. But it does go were I tell it to and slow down to a crawl on landings with out dropping a wing tip. which is good so I don't catch a SFG. Does any one know were to get some extra 4-40 nuts that are on the SFG's? |

"Plane will flip over when alot of elevator is used. Very bad habit "
You mean that is snaps with full elevator throw? What is your weight? Do you have any twist on the wing or ailerons? I'm asking because my ailerons are a bit warped. |
RE: Showtime
GarySS: I think it would over rev. The APC 17x5W seems perfect for the ShowTime and the Saito 1.50. The 5w pulls it great.
|
RE: Showtime
Did you weigh it yet? Let me know how the inverted muffler fit, I'm putting in Moki 135 too, was going to go with side mount and regular pitts muffler, the engine head will stick out a little, inverted looked to be the way to go but I wasnt sure how the inverted muffler would fit, if you get it in OK, I might order one too.
|
RE: Showtime
A properly installed Cline unit will stop any fuel flow to carb and allow tank placement just about anywhere. I have been using Moki 135 for 1yr now, had to put in OS 7D carb in it,the mid range was always loading up before, couldnt 3D with that. With the Cline and 7D carb, the 135 is perfect for 3D.
