Gutaaaooo, I am using Futaba S3305 Servo High-Torque Standard w/Metal Gears in my Showtime. This servo is in all surfaces and I'am using an O.S. 160 FX.
According with manuals, Showtime needs a minimum of 80 ouces inch of servo torque. The 3050 provides 90 oz-in at 6V. So, if you are using a 6.0v bat, you plane will be ok. The S3305 is a great servo. Fast and strong enough to my setup. But this servos are in a hard work and I can feel the fatigue now, past one year flying. Well, I am plannig to install a O.S. 120 AX in my Funtana X 100. How this engine pulls your Showtime? Eduardo |

It pulled the wing off my showtime 90 according to Horizon. So it pulls hard ;)

DS8231 is what I was using on all but Rudder. The OS 120 AX pulled the wings off the ST90

Hey Hoverlow, I'll maiden my showtime with the 120ax upfront this weekend (hopefully), as last weekend it was raining a lot in my field, Then I'll tell you how it does. I'm going to ask a couple of pros that go there to try it out, so I'll tell you what they say. The Funtana is a bit lighter then the showtime, or so I was told, so you'll probably be happy with the 120ax.
nsoward, I saw a couple of showtimes with 120ax on them, and they where doing everything, and there wings stayed on. maybe you where just going to fast and there was some fluter or something? Anyway, I'm sorry for. |

Can you better describe the failure? Did wing alum. wing tubes collaspe, fuselage break, the screw pulled thru the side? Pictures if you have any. This planes seems pretty well built and I would think that the AX 120 would be a great match. Horizon Hobbies usually stands behind their products. Your scaring me. I'm putting a Saito 150 in mine. I have the saito 125 on my showtime. I like the motor, its not unlimited power but, its plenty for what i want to do with it. Currently i have my setup for more precision than 3d so ballistic power is not a requirement. It will however still provide the torque to get it up and over.
For servos im using the hitec 5625 x 4 and the 5645 on my rudder. I like the servos, at 6volts they really add a lot of power to the surfaces. Question how is the nylon gears holding up on the servos? I was thinking of using some higher end Futaba's but didn't justify the nylon gears. Oh well. |

Hey All, I just kissed the ground with my Funtana X100 and have been eyeing the showtime for some . . . time ^.^ So I'm just planning to transfer all the hardware from the funtana to the showtime. Is there anything of which I should be aware before starting to build? any reinforcements (other than the LG), anything I should work out before putting her together?
I have jr 8411s all around an a YS 110. Plz let me know what you all think! Izzy |

well anyway, the showtime proved to be a piece of cake to build, so I had her done in two days. I haven't maidened it yet, since I found that the crash with the funtana had bent the hub, cam, and busted a bearing on the YS. I ordered parts from central hobbies last week and am just waiting on them to put on the YS. Looks like a solid plane.
Came out at 8 lbs 12 oz with dual batteries and switches. The CG is pretty far back. Has anyone had any problems with a rear-ward CG other than the landings? Izzy |

Finished my ST a few weeks ago and have about a dozen flights on it. Gotta be honest I wasn't too impressed "out of the box". The plane was perhaps the crookedest thing I've ever flown. After looking through the thread it looks as though I have a collection of issues that have been found with the "kit". With that being said I've been working through the trimming and setup process and it looks like this will be a fun throw around plane which is why I bought it in the first place. Even with it being on the heavy side (see below) it has unlimited vertical and will hover at 1/2 throttle. Although it won't rocket out of a hover it seems to have plently of power to recover (I'm also flying at 5000 ft). I will be moving the CG further back to stabilize torque rolls as it tends to "fall over" making it a bit of a hand full and reduce the amount of down needed when inverted. It also doesn't flat spin or snap very well due to the more forward CG and it has a bad tendency to snap to the right when doing walls, regardless of the entry speed and despite elevator throws being matched. Rocks a little in harriers, elevators, etc. but nothing too bad. But...on high rates I've never seen anything roll as fast and knife edge with the SFG's in place is a blast!!
Issues encountered: Wing incidence off by 1.5 degrees (rt wing on thrust line, left wing 1.5 positive) - redrilled and adjusted Rt. wing has about an 1/8" bow in it (measured at about the middle of the wing) - just living with it Ailerons severely warped, bowed and twisted (trailing edge looked like a drunk snake) - rebuilt both Loose stab - epoxied in place Junk tail wheel - replaced I'd love to get ahold of the ST as a builders kit. Correcting others bulidng mistakes after the fact never is much fun. Final Setup: OS120 Surpass II w/ pump and stock muffler on 30% nitro Great planes engine mount installed 17x4W APC and Tru Turn Spinner 14 oz. tank against wing tube 4 - Hitec 5625 w/ aluminaum arms 1 - Futaba S148 (throttle) 1 - Hitec 5645 mounted in tail w/ aluminum arms 1400 mah NiCd battery mounted behind canopy (chaning to 2000 NiMh) Initially balanced (inverted) at recommended 7-7/16" from LE at fuselage Sullivan tailwheel (stock litterally fell apart during installation) Had to add 1.5 onces to the right wing tip to balance laterally!!!! Kind of odd with an inverted engine.... Finished weight 10lbs 2oz! Arrrggghhhh... Looking at published engine weights there is no way to get this plane to 8.5 lbs. Maybe they saved all of the heavy wood for this one or I should have used an .049 for power.:D Control throws at recommended deflections and 75% expo. |

Too bad you already did all of those fixes. I would have sent it back!! Mine had minor warps in the elevators that came out with a heat gun. I've found this to be the case on many ARF's I've purchased. My guess is that on the assembly line they build them nice and true and then they cover them while holding the surfaces in their hands, which can result in a warp if you have excessive wrinkling on one side of the surface and you go heat it up to get rid of the wrinkles.

I thought about returning it but figured I'd just end up with another set of issues since I haven't seen a "straight" ARF yet. I prefer to build to avoid that hassles of reworking an ARF but kits are becoming harder and harder to find. Especially for 3D aircraft. Working surfaces with the heat gun feels a bit like the old days of "adjusting" tissue and dope airframes over the steam kettle. I miss the "old days" but not that much.:D
Flew the ST again last night and starting to get it dialed in. Still need to move the CG further back. Rocks like crazy in high-alpha and a hand full to hover...but things are definately looking better! With the final weight of this thing I'm not sure that it will be the 3D machine that I was hoping for. The only things left to reduce weight would be to take out needed components (e.g. engine, servos, battery, tank,...). My old Goldberg Extra 300S that I pulled the engine from came in at 9 lbs ready to fly and it's roughly the same size, same battery, number of servos, etc. Just doesn't have the 3D surfaces and I got tired of the "Wow! Haven't seen one of those in a long time." comments. :) With ARFs it's mostly just a crap shoot on weight (bare airframe) anyway since you can't hand select the wood. |

Rather old thread but I am in the process of replacing the OS 120 in my ST with the Saito 150. Do you have any pictures of how you mounted your 150? If I maintain the spinner to cowl gap I am either going to need to recess the firewall or mount the carb horizontally so that it clears the mounting bolts. I'm starting to lean towards recessing the mount and strengthening the firewall in the process versus the odd carb orientation. Especially since the "velocity stack" will end up outside the cowl in the prop wash.

How would an OS 1.20 Surpass II 4-stroke work on this plane. I just ordered the Showtime 90 today and think I will put the OS in it. Will it work for 3D?

It should be fine for 3D...I'm pretty sure you can use a APC 16x6 prop with that engine. I have a 16x6 prop on my Funtana and it's perfect for 3D and it should be right around the same weight as your Showtime...my Funtana is just over 9 lbs

I just removed the OS 120 Surpass II from my Showtime and replaced it with a Saito 150. If you just want to do pattern and "on-the-wing" aerobatics the OS 120 works great. My Showtime would hover but was left with very little pull out and that was on 30% nitro and it didn't seem to matter what prop I used. Since I'm flying at 5000' the hot summer days make it even more marginal and when it got above 90 I lost all margin and could hold a hover but not pull out at all. If you are lucky enough to get one of the lighter ST's and are flying at sea level the 120 may do the job but the plane really comes alive with the 150. Had to do a bit of firewall modification to get it to fit properly within the cowl but the effort was well worth it. Now it hovers at about 1/3 throttle with a 16x8 and 30%. Let's just say that "recovery" is not an issue but you do have to manage the throttle as it really scoots at full throttle when on the level. |

i do have a short video of mine but with a magnum 120 it will not pull out of a hover the video in not impressive next time he has his out i will try to take a video of it |

I cannot tell with an OS 1.08 but I first installed an OS 160FX in my Showtime, but it was a "little" too much. I am now running a Saito 125, I saved about 1lb and it still does not lack power for 3D. Chris |
