Yes I did !!
I'ts still vibrate a lot.
By the way, I use Tru-turn spinner so it isn't the spinner also.

eranorit,

Yeah, this may be common sense, but you might also want to make sure your engine mount is tight as well. My YS's do vibrate a little more than most other 4-strokes, but not that much.

anyone set this plane up with an evolution 1.00???? im having exhaust problems..it wont fit!!!! and with that engine should i go with a pull pull rudder..or do i need more weight in the tail???

Hey Showtimers!

can anyone remind me which one of the lines on the stock tank is the clunk and which on the vent? Blue or pink? I installed the tank and forgot which one is which :D

All I remember is that the color on mine was backwards from what the book said. So it may not help to go by color alone.

RE: Showtime

Hook one line up to your fuel jug and put some fuel in the tank, then try to remove the fuel from the same line. If you cant you got the vent, if you can you got the fuel line.

Iflyit.. has a good idea... But I just looked at my in the box (still) S.T. and
the pink on mine is the clunk

Did you guys use the stock hinges or used some other ones?

RE: Showtime

I used the stock CA hinges. 14 flights without problem thus far

RE: Showtime

I used great planes pinned hinges.

RE: Showtime

:)I used the pinned hinges (DuBro) No probems with the CA, I think they are fine. I just like the "action" on the pinned better. I also used them on all my other planes.
Thanks
Barry

Another old kit that had wing tips was the Hots by Midwest, they help prevent tip stalls as well as add some lift in KE. Most of the semi-scale aerobats made today could use more lift in knife edge(Edge,Cap,Katana,Extra). I know one person who added tip plates to 90 size Funtana and is getting better knife edge flight because of it. One of the few semi-scale planes that doesn't need SFG is the Ultimate.I think the tip plates are easier that adding SFG to ribs. I added them to a Pizzaz, made them removable with 4-40 nylon bolts, that plane would HA knife edge harrier like a U-Can-Do will.

Doug and James...back in the mid 70's I designed a plane called the "Overdose"...for the overdose of power, control size, etc.
It had a very short (in height, as sort of a minimalist structure ) and narrow fuselage w/ what I called a "knife edge ledge" or chine that ran the length of the top of the (42" ) fuselage.
It had a 42" span also, made from a Sullivan PDQ foam wing, clipped to 42". Powered by a K&B .40 w/ pump, it pre-dated todays "fun fly" designs, and with huge tip plates, would knife edge the length of the runway...:D
My tip plates were 1" larger all the way around the tip and added a lot of side force, and drag (can't have everything )

When I got my Showtime kit, it prompted me to do a SFG experiment w/ the Tribute.

Hi guys.Just wondering about the muffler for the ys 110.I'm using this engine and ready to fit the muffler.Looking at the thing seems to me you have to really do number on the cowl.to get it in there.anybody got some thoughts on this.

There are different ways to add side force, fins,SFG's,tip plates, even a front rudder-remember the Double trouble? I had a Sig Faser that lacked side force, I added a front (movable)rudder to help knife edge-it worked but had problems flying straight, it wanted to slip L or R, I forget. The bottom line is, if you have the right design fuse, knife edge&HA KE,KE loops, spins are all possible.Thats why I'm building a Showtime, I'll get what I want one way or the other. I'v noticed there are a few "Freestyle" designs out there that mimick a pattern plane but with larger surfaces, throws and double beveled and longer tail moments. They are on to something with that, they hover easier,KE better, track better, it was a toss up for me whether to get the Quest or Showtime-you know who won.
Oh, almost forgot-the quickest way to gain side force is tip plates, you can make them removable, they should extend a few inches above/below the wing, they look funny but if you're holding full rudder just to fly KE in a line, you need something.

Watch your elevator and rudder. Too much of eighther will snap this bird. I had over an hour on her this morning and I was flat turning in a harrier (with the rudder)(too hard for this bird) and she snapped over into the ground, I saved her but it took off the side force generator on the right side. I envy you guys who have easy flying Show Times, mine is anything but easy to 3-D (slow and low). I have to stay ontop of it the whole time, she can be a handful at any moment. Just when I think I have it dialed in it bucks and snaps like a wild mustang. I cant let mine get too slow or rock and roll even with forward CG. It seems to take a long roll out on take off also, it needs some speed before you can take her up. You can't yank this one off the ground. This plane is not a fun-fly type plane. For you guys looking for an easy going good mannered plane look at something else. Even though I had alot of fun with it this morning and I am getting it dialed in, it is not a plane you can relax with and throw around. Mabey I still need more stick time with it and I need to do some mixing, that could just be the case but I sweare this plane is taking soo long to get dialed in. I think my thin air has alot to do with it also. I need another 300 square inches at 5,500 ft level. I wish Kyle would come over and fly mine.

My little YAK is still the dream machine.

The Showtime does rock a fair bit at low speed high AOA- here in 4350 elevation (like Reno)
My favorite for 3D and the 100 Saito --is the 90 Harrier 3D
The Showtime tho is a great smooth aerobatic setup which can be flown at much higher speeds for a large wild flashy type flying
' The Harrier - you can get it right up close n slow -- easily.

Big Barry 09-02-2005 10:12 PM

RE: Showtime

I'll have to check out that Harrier, until then I will keep the speed up on the Show Time. I also am going to try a little spoileron action to see if I can get that right wing to stay level.

RE: Showtime

Do you guys compare, the Showtime with the Harrier? Those planes belong to two different leagues IMO, so there's no comparison. Showtime is a freestyle/artistic plane and Harrier is a 3D/fun fly...

RE: Showtime

Got mine out for the first time this morning and noticed the same thing. I attributed most of it to crappy servos. Never, EVER, buy any Blue Bird 621MGs. Hitec HS55s have more holding torque than these things. From 0-20 degrees, I'll bet it doesn't have 15oz/in or torque. Plus, the last 5 degrees of throw take over a second to get to the commanded position. The worst part is, it only does that in one direction, so if you have them on elevators and the servos move in opposite directions, you get some really bad symmetry. I couldn't get over 1/2 throttle without the elevators blowing back. As soon as some more money is available, I'm loading up on some Hitec 5645s.

RE: Showtime

Showtime was never designed to be a funfly / 3D plane. It even says so on the box. This is an all out freestyle / 3D / precision plane. For it to be such, it has to be able to snap easily when commanded to do so. On top of the 3D envelope, this bird needs to be able to give you a crisp snap on command.

The tradeoff to that is if you're not careful, it can bite you in the butt. I'd classify myself as an intermediate 3D pilot. Hovers, harierrs... but no TR (at least not with any level of consistency and confidence). MY rolling harrier is starting to look like one :).

For me, this bird is a JOY to fly. well behaved at most attitudes. I can do slow 35-45' KE pretty well (even though I have to be on top of it to make sure that I won't snap). One of my favorite maneuvers is to do 1 full slow roll, followed immediately by a snap, and then continue the slow roll.

Harrier sometimes rock, but if I lock it in, it stays nice and level. This bird has a powerful rudder (even without SFG on), so you have to be careful when turning. I usually do a coordinated turn with both the ailerons AND rudder. That way if it goes awry, I just bank the aileron hard to the other side. You guys do know right, that because of aerodynamic reasons (read Scott Stoops' book) that in harriers, you need a little right aileron and right rudder (upright, or left rudder when inverted). I think it has to do with the P factor and the torque of the motor. So once you figure out how much, it makes it tons easier. There are planes that naturally harriers much easily. My SA Stella (electric), is a no brainer. Just pull the stick back and steer. This one you need some work, but if you lock it in, it'll be stable. Btw, I do not use any spoilerons either.

HTH,
Josh

RE: Showtime

No, we are not comparing them. We are saying that the Showtime is not a fun-fly and if I wanted an easier fun type plane I should look at the Harrier. Speed is not my thing, I like a really slow flying plane, its just my style. I like built in stability. I need a 40% fun-fly with a ZDZ 210 and 2,000sq" wing, now that would be more my speed. Say a super giant Sig Somthin-Extra or Mayhem or even better a 40% Eflite YAK-54 foamy.....Mmmm YAK-54 foamy. Come to think of it I already have the perfect plane and it only weighs 11oz's. ;)

Well they all cant be perfect. :D

RE: Showtime

I think I found my wing problem. I, like some others, had a bit of left aileron trim to fly the plane level. With the right aileron slightly down in its trim position and feeding up elevator I think the right wing was stalling first and dropping quite fast (like in a wall). I used the elavator to flap mix and used 20%. Now I can do the wall without it wanting to snap over or droping a wing. I have gotten it locked into a harrier and it would not really respond well to any inputs intill I gave it a bit of thrust with the motor, (i.e. rudder and throttle bursts to kick it around) It is a new plane with the spoilerons activated, though I still managed to almost put it in after a long flat spin. I only got two flights in this morning as the wind really picked up. Dont even try to steer this plane in a stiff breeze with the SFG's installed, they are just great big sails and the plane becomes a weathervane. I had a nice walk after landing on my second flight, I could not get the plane to turn around.:D

RE: Showtime

Barry,

I had similar problem also in the beginning. I think it was from setting hte dual elevator setup incorrectly. So I have set it now as best as I could linkage wise, and then adjusting the EPA to make sure that they're equal. The result: My wall doesn't drop a wing, and I don't snap out of a maneuver unless I inadvertantly add a bit of aileron to the move.

Nickolas 09-04-2005 04:27 PM

RE: Showtime

How do you set up your dual elevator? Y-harness, 2 channels on Rx or match box? I was planning to use a two channels on Rx, what is your opinion?
