RE: Showtime
ORIGINAL: v8mini but thinking about it i was probably flying it quite slower than i normally would so that probably wouldn't have help. If I am flying in a good speed and pull the elevator to make i.g. a loop, according with the control amount I am using, it will snap anyway. It just does not snap at really gentle elevator rates, or at full rates, when the nose goes up to 45ยบ pretty fast and the engine takes the control... OK2Fly, this is a really good idea. Thanks for share!! This could save my ST. But danmed!! I made a search in the stores here in Brazil and they don't have this selling like spare part... And Horizon doesn't ships to Brazil anyway...[:o] |
RE: Showtime
Find someone with a PTS Mustang and steal it from them.:D

RE: Showtime
Is the snap tendency still there at recommended throws or just when the elevator throws are set really high? I have a Revolver that will snap like you are describing only when I set the rates more than recommended.
Does the droops change any other flight characteristics. I will start building mine in a week or two and may go ahead and order the droops. Thanks for the tip! I have both a 120 AX and a 26cc gas. I am thinking of starting with the AX first and not cutting the cowl until I fly it. If the AX flys it like it does my Seagull Harrier then that is the engine I will stay with. I like the thought of a little less weight on the nose although the 26cc gas is only 8 ounces more not including the battery. |
RE: Showtime
The snap tendency is at the area of elevator throw between low and 3D rates. I will do extensive flight testing today to see of the droops are worth it, but so far, they fix everything. I mainly want to see if it does anything with harriers or knife edge.
I have a 26cc gas in mine and it is brilliant, and there's no slime at the end of the day! Both of the engines you listed are really good. |

Ok, I did some testing today and... THESE THINGS WORK! Knife edge had a teeny bit of roll coupling, but I think the plane already had that before I installed the droops. Harriers are just fine upright/inverted, and snap rolls didn't really change much if at all. The wing remains stable throughout the elevator travel range. This is a totally different plane now, and I'm not afraid to bring it down low.

RE: Showtime
wow............
Great idea........ And it is not all that noticiable on the plane..... I would guess that this could be related to almost ANY plane!!!!... I have a showtime at my local HS (It has been there for like 3 years) no joke!!!! NOt sure what there issue is there, but no one buys anything from there shop!!! At least not from what I have seen.... ANyway, it is one of the first few off the assembly lines.... No issues with these right? Thing are straight ect ect..? I though about picking it up, but I think I have enough disct. planes for now!...... If I want to fine tune this plane and then fudge something like the landing gear, cowl or a wing, I am screwed!!!!! no parts.... I think I will skip for now, (probly change my mind later thought) I had thought about picking it up and sticking my 1.20 AX in it...... funny the 1.60 is considered heavy, as it weights the same as a 1.20 4-stroke........ I do understand what you are saying though,,,,, I had a evolution 26cc on my tana and I hated it..... Stuck the light wieght 1.20 AX on it and a totall cream puff.... Stick with light wieght engines on these planes and it should turn out well...... The gasser my fly well, but not as well as it could if you used a lighter engine,,,,, (even with the plastic implants....) Don't get me wrong, I love gas engines, if I could be rid of nitro I would, but you just cant get rid of them iff you want to fly any smaller light weight 3D aircraft.....Up to the 1.40 range..... then you can start trying the 26cc gassers... I could be way off though, and have put my foot in my mouth many times, but it would be interesting to see what you end up with... (1.20 ax, and your 26cc gasser comparison) |
RE: Showtime
ORIGINAL: HoverLoW Maybe a good plane for your engine is a Nitro Planes Katana. I am crazy for one, but they are not selling here in Brazil. [&o] With all the money you have spent trying to get these planes to run well at your elevation, you could have a great 50cc EF yak, or some other 50cc plane!!!! I have talked to you about this before ( I am in no way tring to cut on you at all) I honestly, would like to see you in something that would make you happy.... I am in that quest right now as well. I don't want to risk my larger aircrafts (horrible luck with them) untill I have more time with the throw aways..... ( I know, I will hear it about that one) I may go with the soon to be released 1.60 reactor, or a EF,QQ, MH, 73,74, yak..... Perhaps, you haven't givin up on this plane yet!!.... Justin |

A good 26cc gasser will 3D this plane just fine. If your Evo. 26 wasn't "putting out," a tuned pipe would have brought that engine to life. Yea, there is a weight penalty, but gasoline is relatively cheap, and there is no slime layer at the end of the day!!:D
My Showtime snapped, light or heavy, but now with the... ahem, "plastic implants" it doesn't! Oh, I forgot to mention, the Harriers were stable with a spoileron mix active. Without a mix, there was a bit of wing rock. |

Justin I remember our conversation about this issue. I still have your message in box. [8D] Don't worry about me. I respect yours advices so much. You can tell me whatever you want. We are friends. Virtualy, but we are.[sm=thumbs_up.gif] In fact, I took you advice to go for 50cc airplanes indeed. I don't have any engine like that yet, cause I am using my money to change my radio system to 2.4 ghz, but my plane to the next year will be a 50cc powered. I am planing this and I have a DA 50 on order. This is a better option to me for a bunch reasons. More planes to choice, cheaper and good brazilian planes, the power ration is always good... I am just still try to fight with those 120 sized planes only because I already have it. I will try to fly those planes till the final crash, but I don't want to customize it anymore. Just fly for fun accepting thr fact they are not good to my elevation... And, anyway, I will keep the setup. I have a position of not sell my RC stuff, cause we can't get a good price and we always discover some where in the future that we would need those parts for something... So, I can find some good 3D plane to my OS 160FX, it would be welcome... :D:D But the point is I already forgot those 120 sized 3D planes. I did get any after my Fx100 and Showtime and probably I won't. My plan is go for the 50cc powered machines!!!! :) |
RE: Showtime
Looks like the 26cc fits in very nicely.....
The power wasn't the issue, with my setup ( I had a tuned pipe on it) it was the weight.... Even when landing it would seem to want to fall on it's face when it came in to land..... It needed a Flat, long, fast approach when landing. Apon the flair, it would seem to drop out of the sky... Now, I did only have the engine for a vary short time (It had a rare but real, faulty ignition) to which I got my money back and picked up a ZDZ 40f3a for a different aiframe . I had flew it 3-4 times.... had the landing gear bust out 2-of those times due to the plane just droping out of the sky on final....... I felt this was due to just wayyyyy to much weight in the front, even though it balaced out perfectly....... WHen I placed the 1.20 AX 2-stroke in it, it just floated, all the way in and gently sat down... and I never had a ruff landing with that plane from then on in... Lots of varriable there (could have been many things) Example: I believe your engine, weights < the Evolution 26cc gt,,, So if your plane flys fine with your set up I believe you. Unfortionatly, mine didn't.... I wish it did, because I would be still flying it today!!!! I hope I din't get off the topic. but I felt it was related.... Justin |
RE: Showtime
Yup, nose heavy. I shoved my battery in the tail to get it to balance tail-heavy... I'm not sure if I followed H-9's recommendations.
Glow is definately a superior choice if you're concerned with weight tho. |
RE: Showtime
[&o]not so good with the Evolution 1.00. Fuel draw problems.

Welcome to RCU Cory!
About that Evolution... [:@] turn it upright, or get a new engine. I (and many others) have had the worst luck with that engine. I used it in my Showtime before I went to gas, and it just isn't dependable inverted or sideways. It runs like a dream upright, tho. Maybe someone else will chime in with their opinion. |
RE: Showtime
Does anybody have the evolution 1.00 combo with Show Time 4-D 90. and if so have encountered fuel draw problem. If so how do i rectify this problem. Need help.
|
RE: Showtime
Thanks for the feedback because the recommended engine for this plane was evolution or the Saito according to the build instructions. Am thinking about going to elec.

RE: Showtime
No problem. If you do go electric, tell us how it goes.[8D] Does your Showtime have the snapping problem?

RE: Showtime
Hi! All[8D]
Finally getting my Showtime together. Getting ready to put the engine in (Saito 125). My question to anyone who has put a four stroke in. Does engine have to be inverted or can it go sidways also? Also will there be fuel draw problems moving the fuel tank back to the wing tube? I'm sure you all are aware that the Showtime 90 has been discontinued and with the exception of a few out on shelves, there are none to be found. Really sad.:( The model is a great looking plane and seems to be a good flyer with the exception of some snapping which seems linked to excesive throws or weight problems. Doug |
RE: Showtime
I have a older saito 120 mounted inverted on mine. My tank is located in the front of the fuse. It works good for me.

Doug You can mount the engine on it's side, but it's going to look bad with that tall cylinder and rocker covers sticking out... |
RE: Showtime
Dougwill, you can mount your engine inverted or horizontal...heck, even upright if that's what you like. As for moving the fuel tank back, you would need a pump or (even better) a cline or iron bay regulator.
|
RE: Showtime
Thanks for the advice. Inverted seems the most practical. Not crazy abot the muffler sticking out the side and I'm to cheap to buy a special muffler or pipe. Does anyone have any photos of reinforcing the landing gear. I'm drawing a blank.
Doug |
RE: Showtime
I didn't do it, but I would recommend epoxy and tri-stock wherever you can put it.
-Pat |
RE: Showtime
I used a layer of fiberglass to reinforce the landing gear mount. It's light weight & has held up very well.
