I pulled them out, roughed em up with sandpaper and epoxied them back into place with 30 minute epoxy and milled fibergalass. I smeared a liberal amount around the mounts and wing sheeting in those areas aswell with an acid brush to strengthen any other damage that I might not be able to see. Has held very well. No problems. ;)

Anyone put a Moki 2.10 in this thing? Think it will work? It's a big plane, but 5 hp and 25 lbs. should be enough, no?

I imagine I'd run into balance issues...

I just reglued on the inside. I also drilled the anti-rotation pins so I can install safety pins inside the fuselage (only two of them).

I have been reading about this plane after the review in rcuniverse. Model Airplane did a review w/out doing the weight saving mods that the guy on rcuniverse did when he put in his Da 50CC and he seemed pleased after the weight loss. I was thinking about the evolution (MVVS) 45cc but I would have to go and do all of those expensive carbon fiber mods to get it to have that excess power that everyone needs to have when they get in trouble when on the deck... I though about the Evolution 58cc but this is a tank. I have a 400$ credit and Horizon Hobby and thought that this would work. Has anyone used a evolution 58 in this plane? Has anyone installed a tuned pipe or cannisters on this plane. This may have been talked about but there are just too many replies to lurk through for the answers.........
Any help would be appreciated......

Justin...I don't remember anyone using the Evo 58 in this thread, but heck, give it a shot...:D

Kochj,

I was me who did the review and shared the lightening mods... and yes I was pretty happy with the results with a DA50...

The 58 would be a great choice for this airplane... and if you did only the mods that did not include extra cost (like XF items) you'd have yourself a pretty well powered airplane...

For that matter... you might not need any mods at all... maybe use a pul-pull rudder so that it would balance easier... or do the tail mods and use a tail rudder servo...

Dave a friend of mine has one, seriously lightened with the 58 up front. The all up wt is 17 1/2 lbs and the performance is unlimited. He was going to make a video but none of us are good enough to really show the capability.....maybe at a later date?

Great review!
Do you have some pict's of a pull pull install on this plane? What have those that have built with no mods and a 70-80cc saying? Too heavy? I would probably just do the back fuse, rudder and cockpit lightening for starters. What about the new 55cc BME, although it hasn't been released yet... engine weighing in a 2.1 (engine and spark) saving a full pound at begineing would be nice...
I currently have a 1/3 cap 580 that has a 100DA going in it and a TF giant P-51 with a 64cc, and a funtana100X with a 120 ax in it......
Thought also about the GP ultimate 1.60 bi-pane... Being I have never had a bi-plane should I get one of these instead of the yak54?
Perhaps the 1/3cap 580 and the yak will fly so much similar that I would have wished I had some variance and gotten the bi-plane.???? So far no issues with this plane (GP 1.60 Ultimate) except landing gear issues.....
It sounds like you have had much experience with many different planes so any input would be greatly appreciated.... Or anyone else that would like to express their opinion.....

Hi guys, well I am posting pictures of what I did with the Yak. first carbon fiber around the engine box. Nylon screws taped into 5 wooden blocks to hold the cowling. Also a double thickness of the piece that comes down from the canopy, and then enlarge the slot that is part of the fuse. I have a Duralite power board the 40/16, I have 4 servos for ailorons. two for elevator, one for rudder. I have a fiber optic engine cut off switch. manual choke. I will post a few more pics on what else I did. I also reinforced inside the engine box with carbon fiber, and also the landing gear plate. I am using a pull pull system for rudder. I have two Lithium Ion bat of 2900.
The picture of the plane on the floor, is a pic taken last wednesday athe the St. Justines Hospital for Children. Our Zone MAAC gave a donation to the Childrens hospital and my Yak was the backdrop for this occasion. I also forgot to mention, it is a First Place engine, with 70cc of power. Should do the trick. This is my third FPE. I have a 40cc and a 52cc all run with great reliability.

You will also notice in the above pics, re the tail gear. I put in two blind nuts and one wooden screw. The reason, is I do not like only wooden screws as they can come loose. Also if something happens or breaks, easing with the blind nut system. It is a carbon fiber tail gear set up. I also changed the wheels to a lite 4" metal hub with a nylon bearing. So I did enlarge the opening of the wheel pants, I modified the inside of the wheel pants so it would sit higher, and also carbon fiber oveer the ply on the inside of the wheel pant.

I am also using 6 rubber engine mounts as you can see. The FPE comes with 6 holes on the back plate. The plane finished weighs 23lbs. I do not own one plane that is the weight of the builders specs. All my planes are heavier. Which I like as I fly almost every day close to 90 gallons a year. We fly in very high winds, up to 25 miles per hour. So in my case would rather a heavier plane, as I do not do 3 D but fly IMAC. My personal view, you can go crazy with weight loss. My Super Stearman has close to 1000 flights with a FPE40cc and is still in one piece. My Wild Hare Edge 540T with the FPE52cc has over 400 flights and is still like new. I am in the 3rd winter with the Super Stearman. My Waco with the 40cc has 200 flights this year. It is a new plane for me and is like new. I am sure if I did litening tricks to it, in some of my hard landings, there woujld of been repairs. I also use the B&B landing gear reinforcements where the landing gears allow to use this system. I have it on the Edge and on the Waco.

MGA are you the fellow who stopped by our field (Shoe Factory) last summer, just west of Chicago....you had your red Waco with the 40CC FPE and just started flying IMAC after a hiatus of several years?

If so i'm the short, fat, gray headed fellow who had the EF YAK...

kochj, You will need to go to http://www.kangkeusa.com/ to get the brison engines as they are the distributor for them now. They are presently being manufactured in Canada.

Lou, yes I am the same guy that you met in Chicago with the Waco. Lou what is the web site of the EF Yak. and you might of been short and fat with a beard, but you are very good looking, so don't give up.
I just want to make sure, are you the fellow that just retired American airlines, I think. That is me with the Wild Hare Edge 540T with the 52ccFPE, and my Waco in flight with the FPE 40cc, and me back in 68 with myF&M reed set and my Phil Kraft Kwik Fly pattern ship.

For the one that wanted pics of the pull pull on the Yak, here is what I did. pretty simple and no play whatsoever on the Rudder. I use this same system on all my pull pull. Hope this helps.

Brison motors and Bisson mufflers are not the same company. even though some people think they sound the same. Bisson mufflers are nice people to deal with. They are a family business, and the father and son both fly IMAC.

hey man thanks for those nice pic's i just got one of this yak's for the simple reason that lanierrc.com the manufacture got them on sale until tomorrow, with free shippintg and 20% off a total of 408.00 in my door step, I was impress with this airplane because the size of it. I got 7 yak's from all diferent manufactures and this one is the biggest in the so call 30% range 50CC. Nice plane and nice pic's thanks. same goes for you maudib. Happy new year to all.

OK well good to hear from you! My EF YAK is dead....met a horrible death. Very long story and if i told you, you most likely would not believe it but basically I fell on it walking it to the flight line and broke its' back and it proceeded to take off on its' own. The guys said it never looked so good in the air....but that's another story! LOL!
