RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Ceegee, i have wanted to put the Crash one on a plane for a while. I know there is some decal paper I can use on my HP printer, i just am not sure how durable it is. I am afraid that a drop of fuel hits it and its done. I think the U Can Do one would look great on a plane.

Maybe I ll get some of that decal paper and see how it turns out.

:)That's the coolest logo. I love that thing. Good design.
Well, I was flying tonight and I thought to myself, boy, that's an odd sound. I don't worry too much about odd sounds on a UCD because anyone that's flown one knows they are noisy, but anyways, this did sound odd. So I landed only to find my cowl, my brand new fresh look, special cut, nice looking cowl had come loose and slid up against the prop. Whoa, cut that baby up. Oh well, I was thinking of moving my CG back about a 1/16" of an inch and now I won't have to move anything.
Oh, CeeGee, why is it everytime I type your name I think I have to go and rebalance my airplane (CG)
Thanks,
Barry

:)Liberator, I love that 3 blade on the UCD. Maybe you're on to something. But in reference to your question, I think most people would run a 15x6 or 16x4 on the Magnum 91. If you can't pull one of those then a 15x4W would be nice also. Great looking plane. I like the silver canopy. A little different than most.
gjeffiers, how are you liking the new radio? Helps?
Thanks.
Barry

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

:)OK, OK... I can't deny it any longer. I'm guilty!!! I bought a YAK. But now I hate myself. I haven't even got it yet and I'm disappointed. I've been reading the Yak attack thread and I can see right away the people over there are a little stuffy. If that's what ya gotta be to fly a YAK, I guess I'd rather have anything else. The more I fly the UCD the more I like them. I was doing a pretty darn good KE with the 46 on Saturday. The crowd was watching (all 30) and were commenting those were the best of the day. I don't think I could do any better with a Yak. The thing is expensive and you can't get parts or new airplanes. I'm questioning my decision. It looks like it'll be here tomorrow. But my Showtime is supposed to ship this week. I'm going to wait and see that before I build either one. If I build them both I won't have a spare YS. You need a spare YS. I might just trash the Yak. I'd have every bit as much fun. And, isn't that what the hobby is all about? Fun? How could you have more fun than with a UCD. I just don't see the advantage.
Well, thanks for listening and please, don't judge.
Thanks,
Barry

:)The next time I get a "Yak Attack" I'm just gonna call my son, in Utah, and talk with him on the phone.
Thanks,

15x4w or 15x5w apc will be the best for hovering and to pull strait up out of it with less than full throttle

You're a brave man.... I can't imagine flying by myself. The biggest part of going to the field is seeing the guys there and catching up on the latest stuff.... [8D]
Yea, it's a relief that the old hangar sold. We were having to take out a second mortgage to make it all happen and the second was only to get us threw untill the house sold. [X(] Now that it's sold we're back to one mortage..........[8D]

i guess you could say i love flying, who knows, one day maybe someone will stop by while im flying and want to git one and fly. and maybe not:D

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Yea, hopefully. It's a kick when lots of guys show up. If I could get down that way I would definately stop by. I would love to see some low over the deck inverted fly-bys..........[X(]
Oh, I forgot to mention also that I saved my Twist from a fate worse than death. I was getting set to fly it yesterday and was trying to tweak the Saito 72 a little better and noticed that the carb had come loose somewhat and was drawing in air and leaning it out. I could have been ugly if I had flown it. Maybe a gnarly dead stick or something.............[X(]

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

What do you guys think about a Magnum 91 for 125. I want to get a Saito 82 or 91 but that will run me 250. I found a deal on a Mangum 91. It sounds like it will fly this plane great. I have never had anything but an OS, and I know saitos are supposed to be great, but my baby still needs formula.

Barry, what kind of Yak did you get. I love the looks of the Yak, just dont know of any good 40-60 size models i can afford.

I had the same problem. Dropped whole engine in a coffee can of Miracle Oil overnite. Freed averything up

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

:)sctcrash, I got a Yak, Extreme Flight 68". They are hard to find. I bought it NIB from an individual on the Marketplace. Just got it today. It looks like a good arf, but honestly, I can't tell it from my Mayhem as far as quality which is one step above Great Planes. The landing gear doesn't even come pre drilled, nor is there nuts in the firewall, you have to do that yourself. The covering looks excellent and it has the biggest cowl I've ever seen. You could sleep in it. The tires are junk and will need replacing. Everything else looks good. But I'm still a UCD lover at heart. Flew tonight, went to long because of the heat, used more fuel than I thought and engine ran out just as I was exiting a flat spin. Came up ok but couldn't make the runway into the wind and sat her down in the deep weeds. No damage except a small crack in the cowl where in nosed over a bit. All in all pretty lucky. I guess I better start using the timer again.
Thanks,
Barry

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

I just put that in and still breaking it in. Even with the 3 blade there is a ton of motor, makes this a whole new plane.
The Magnum .91 is also a very smooth runner, had to tweek the low idle setting, but it purrs now and the midrange transition is sweet.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

:)Liberator, Did you use the stock mount for the Magnum 91? Sounds like an interesting engine for this plane.
Just repair my cowl last night. Swabbed a little epoxy on the inside of the cowl, forcing some into the cracks. Realized I had touched almost everything in my hobby room including the plane, outside of the cowl, charger, manual, glow stick, canopy, top of my table, the wing, also the wing on the Mayhem, my diet coke and I even smeared some on my lips and stuck my mouth shut. Well, I grabbed the rubbing alcohol and went to work. Plane is repaired and most of the glue is cleaned off. But man what a mess. My lips are sore and so am I. But I'm ready to fly again.
Thanks,
Barry

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Barry,

Yes and no. I did not use the one that came with the plane as I had mounted my O.S 50 SX on it, but I went down and bought the exact same one from the LHS and used it. I bought the GP mount that is supposed to fit this motor, and it is way too big for the plane. The smaller mount is the ticket. It's sort of a tight fit, but not bad.

Plus I got lucky and the needle valve was not far off between the two motors. I did make some larger cuts in the cowl to get a little more air in there. Motor stayed nice and cool. Tank size will be an issue though I think. I used the same tank to save time and even at half throttle, these things eat fuel. 8 minutes tops is my guess without going to dead stick.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

:)Watch the dead sticks, they can be "sticky".
Thanks,
Barry
