hey John, without a cline or other reg you can use a great planes easy fueler valve and just keep the fuel hose hooked up till you are ready to start the engine then unhook and start it. but the only way that seems right is the regulator or you will be fighting fuel all the time. if money is no prob then the cline is the way to go.

ok well I have the easy fueler....so the only time this should be an issue is on start up? Is that correct? the fuel will run into the head during the off cycle?

John that is correct, as long as the fuel line filler is pluged in to the easy fueler valve the fuel line to the carb is shut off so you can not flood the carb. but as soon as you are ready to start the engine and flip the prop or use your electric starter, remove the fuel valve and start right away! i had that setup before i got my cline and it worked out ok as long as your engine is an easy starter and you do it prompt. and also remember you do not have to prime your engine! your fuel will naturally prime itself.also if your engine does not start pretty quick then plug your fuel conection back in to stop the fuel to the carb and clear any excess fuel from the engine and start over.

Well my re-birth maiden went very well:-) It does not fly exactly the
same, but good enough:-) Even got a few great flat spins... But did
pull out "WAY" high.... I got a lot of ribbing about pulling out early, but
I can live with that:-) The YS 63 is running flawlessly, with the added
air and I also went back to the 13X4W to get the "R's" up quicker and
higher....

Repairs are done on the u-can-do, just waiting for the gorilla glue to dry. Then the rods will go in the landing gear plate. Still have not heard anything from GP, but the u-can-do will fly friday weather permiting, chance of rain.

Well, I went out today and after about 6 flights, I tore the landing gear out again. Actually, the hinges on one of the Elevators broke, which laft that Elevator, just dangling. I was hitting it pretty hard on high rates when the failure happened too.

It was a hand full, but I was able to get it down. It didn't really hit too hard, but I think the nylon bolt I put in the barcket I made broke. The damage is not too bad, and I'll put a metal bolt in next time.

Hey Golden and Raideron, Sounds like things are going well again for you guys. Glad to hear you're getting back to flying. I wish I could. The weather has taken a turn for the worse. Darned wind and rain. I got a chance to fly on Monday and had a blast. Did some flat spins. I can get it way up there and go inverted, go full up on the right stick and fully to the right on the left stick and it starts spinning fairly well. I have to add a little right aileron to smooth it out. If I add too much or too much throttle it starts spazzing out, pulls out of the spin, and goes upright. Need more practice at it. Loads of fun though. Funnest plane I've ever flown.

gjeffers - The hinges were the plastic ones from GP. I think the problem was that I CA'ed them in. This time I'll use 30 Epoxy.

raideron - I was wondering how well your UDC hovered with a 13X4. I tried a 14X4W today on my Saito .72 I'll be the first to admit, that I'm not the best at hovering yet but, on my Fancy Foam Edge and on my G2 Sim I have hover really well. I attached a pic of my "UCD" FF Edge. These foamy's are a blast BTW.

Also, I was wondering if anyone has a certain rate/and expo that they have their radio set at to hover. I have a Futabe 9C and I usually has their rate of throw and expo set at.

I usually hover with the following: Aile 75% Expo -75 Elev 75% Expo -60 and Rudder 100% Expo -75

These are just a starting point. Any Suggestions?

:)perkinsm, The 14x4W is perfect for the Saito 82. The 72 would probably be better off with the 13x4W. I think you would be happier with that prop. It would spool up quicker and pull a little more RPM.
For hovering I think your expos are way off. I use expo, although not nearly that much for all 3D flying except hovering. Depending on the plane for normal 3D flying I use between 30 to 50%. With your expo you are just moving the throws to the end of the sticks. For hovering I've found it much easier to use only about 10% or even less. You want a quick rudder action and not too much movement when you are locked into a hover. This is easiest with little or no expo. Same with the elevator. But you must be very careful or you can get out of control quickly, but it is much easier to do with less expo. Also, generally I leave my ailerons on low rates and use about 30% expo when hovering. You don't need that much aileron. Especially if you want it to torque roll.

:)hockeyrules99, Concerning fuel syphoning on the Saito 82 in the UCD46. For some reason this problem is much, much less apparent in the 46 size UCD than in the 60. The 60 can be a real bearcat for this. Leaks fuel all over. I think this is because the tank is located wrong. With the 60 the fix is as gjeffers described. But I run my 46 without any regulator or anything. It leaks no fuel or very little fuel. Not a bad deal at all. I'm not really sure what the difference is but there is a difference and the problem is not bad on the 46. My recommendation would be to try it stock and see how you like it. If you have a problem, then you can change it.

I agree with Barry. I don't notice any leakage or flooding at all on my 46 UCD / 82 set up.

perkinsm, I can hover my UCD almost at will, She does it really easy
the only other plane I can compare it with is my 4*60, which I thought
was also easy but no way close to the UCD,,, As for the props.. I felt
like the 14x4w was easier to catch it after getting out of shape.. But
the 13X4W does good.. I mainly went back because of the spool up
time on the 14X4W was slower when I got in trouble... And I truely
believe I would have saved it if it would have cranked up faster.. But
then again the engine was a bit down on power because on the hotter
day and that was the first time I flew with the cowl on with no holes
for adjustment on the reg... But I made some now, So I may try the
bigger prop again...
I would have to agree with Barry on the 13X4W for the Saito 72.. On
the expo's My Airtronics RD 8000 does not have expo on the rudder,
I fly on Hi rates only, which is everything I can get, The radio is maxed
out too... So my expo is always on ... Elev-70%, Ail-50%

I maidened my UCD last weekend. I have JR DS 8455's all round on 6V with an OS surpass .91 for power. Looks like this plane will be loads of fun. Can't wait for the motor to be run in. Only problem I had was the usual fuel running into the carby when not being used and the cover on the bottom of the wing came off. Apart from that it was all good. CG is set 1/2 inch forward of the back limit.

I had the same problem with the magnum loading up with fuel when it was just sitting there. When I was fueling or heading to the pits, I would pull the throttle back and the trim for the throttle back and shut the air plane power off. Very little fuel drains into the engine and make flip starting the plane on the next run easier.

Congrads on the maiden GRANT ED.... covering is a lot eaiser to
replace then the sticks, But too bad it decided to depart... You'll
have fun with your plane!! There are some tips in posts above
on preventing the fuel to the carb... My YS loves all that fuel and
likes to spread it all over.... Very messy engine.... But man she
makes up for it in the air.... I always smile after landing and
taxiing back to the gate and kill the engine, I always see a few
drops of fuel drip from the carb... But she cranks over right now
on the next start.....

Well, I guess I was lucky when my landing gear block broke out. The scoop shaped piece in front of there broke out as well, right along the side seams. I was able to glue in the landing gear block in and then add some gorilla glue around the entire inside base of the block and let it sit untill the glue cured. The gorilla glue expanded into the seam and against the fuse body. The gorilla glue expanded against the sides and created a nice fillet. For the block to come out it would have to take the fuse sides with it. You might want to try that. Just cut out the scoop (ramp) forward of the landing gear block. Once it's out you'll have better access to the L G block.

Well the engine arrived a day early...nice surprise...anyway here it is installed..tried a rough balance tonight ..seems a bit tail heavy ...battery is heading in on top of the fuel tank tomorrow night...
