I recently took up the hobby after a ten year hiatus (life happens). I pay over $150/yr to belong to a local rifle range. I pay $75/yr in RC club dues. I pay hundreds of dollars per year so my kids can compete in softball and baseball. The $58/yr I pay to the AMA is one of the biggest bargains in my life. The magazine subscription alone is worth the pricethey pack a lot of information in each issue.

I'm sure this dead horse has been beaten before, but I think this is where much of the AMA resentment spawns from,, there is no choice or competition,, We pay what they say it costs (period),, there is no free market competition for our business,
There was one fledgling competitor,, 15 years ago or so??, but they failed at the feet of a giant

I get this, however, why is this acceptable as an org or any business to find out just how much people will pay? I find more and more in our country we just allow it and move on.

If there is resentment, then it is unfounded. There are plenty of alternatives to the AMA. The USAMA comes to mind.
Yes, there was another fledgling competitor "at the feet of the giant"and they shoved a bamboo chute under it's toenail. Good way to get yourself stomped on.

possibly, but, a long time ago, i told then acting ED, joyce, that the only way to get the park flier types into the "fold" was to offer them an org that wasn't obviously tied to the AMA and offered insurance only as it's draw. that the "AMA brand" just had too much baggage to appeal to the outlaws/renegades/park fliers.
appears that maybe someone was listening.

Shucks, You stole my thunder.

Carl is as nice a person as one could ever hope to meet. He is very serious in whatever he does, yet IMO his "peripheral vision" leaves a considerable amount to be desired. Very straight-laced.
Hopes he does well. IIRC, he was the first one fired by Cherry when Cherry came on board.
Now I ask, "Is there anyone joining Carl?" [sm=confused.gif]

It looks like I can finally give clear proof of my intentions in answering a question from back when USAMA first hit the scene and I said Wait For Info.
well, I can now say:
Yes. I did say give USAmA time, and the new data we see from SoS NV is that USAMA might not be completely unrelated to AMA
Can you just IMAGINE IF??????????
The AMA started a new program through a 3rd party and:
- information was incomplete on the website
- address of a P.O. Box in Las Vegas that a Google search showed use in the past by known scam companies
- the principal of the 3rd party is linked to fraud inditement when the name is searched on Google
- claims to be using an insurance company that can't be found in Best Ratings
Would the same group of "just give them time to respond" posters be giving the AMA time or would they be 'foaming at the mouth" on the attack?

*True info is weak at best on that site
*That address is a clearing house for Nevada Corps, This is very common for out of state companies to register in NV to avoid there home state tax liabilities, When I lived in CA I heard them on the radio daily advertising the benifits of the "Nevada Corp" concept
*I googled the names, noting really comes up.
*Their insurance underwriter would seem to be legit,, http://www.acord.org/Pages/default.aspx
So so far their are just guilty of having a crappy web site and being shrewd to avoid paying high taxes
