I just learned that AMA is the secondary provider of coverage in the event that the flyer has home owners insurance. Do you have to tell your insurance agent that you fly models to get the coverage? Will telling them cause your premiums to go up? Thanks in advance,
Mike

Normally, models are included in your homeowner’s coverage. Check with your agent. It depends from insurance company to insurance company and state to state.
The AMA insurance is not “secondary†but, is “excessâ€. That means that any other coverage you have comes before the AMA policy. If you have homeowner’s, the AMA coverage kicks in after the homeowner’s has reached it limits. On the other hand, if you have no other coverage, the AMA coverage is primary.

Has any one fought the insurance company lately. If some have as much problem as a person caught in a tornado good luck. I wish I had thought of Insurance instead of working for a living!!!
Edit !!!!!!! Just because we are old does does not mean we are going to quite!

All my insurance except my summer place is provided through United Services Auto Association (USAA).
Years ago I had a letter saying USAA provided for model airplane. Now all the policies specifically mention coverage for model airplanes.

Don't tell your insurance agent anything he doesn't ask for! There's not even any reason to look at your policy. Here's how I look at it: Either you have coverage under your own liability policies or you don't. If you have the misfortune to cause a serious accident, then if you have your own coverage your insurance company and the AMA will fight it out. If you don't have your own coverage, the AMA becomes primary. Of course, if you follow this strategy, you better be sure your AMA membership is paid up!
I agree 100%. If my homeowners doesn't cover models, that's fine by me. I'll let the AMA take care of the problem. I'd rather leave my homeowners out of the picture anyway.

l would recommend that any person that flys any type of Rc read your policy or have some one explain it to you. What can and will happen if you make a claim and who will pay! A lot of people take it for granted that they are covered. What do you have to loose but a Phone call, you will be surprised at some of the answers you will get. These people are in the business to make money not loose it . Higher premiums or cancellation, do your own research and get the answers you need not what you get here and you may save your own ***** in the long run.
