In no way shape or form does a person attending college demonstrate one's intellectual capacity. I mean if one is deemed smart, then why would they have to attend college in the first place? Those people who were named above figured "it" out on their own without college which only shows they have a great enough mental capacity to do what you learn in college on their own without having to pay for it. Instead they just pay themselves through their efforts. Education in books and college can certainly enrich your lives like Jim stated, but practical application from trial and error is much fun IMHO. I would have never traded college for the world, but for me it was more like a 7 year keg party.

You should have stayed another year and you could have been a doctor, you know one of those guys that spend 8 years simply to learn to say, "Take an aspirin, (hic) don't drink coffee, don't smoke, (hic) don't drink alcohol, (hic) get lots of rest, write me a VERY BIG check, (hic) and call me next week for more of the same advice (hic)." Yep, that does take a while to learn.

SP, how long has the Hope grant been around? I think our difference experience might be due to Hope grant. I'm pretty sure it was around when my brother was there. (And he was the reason I got to go visit the campus) His final year there was during the Olympics. This years out-of-state enrollment is 28%. A majority of those are from surrounding states, I'm sure.

The Hope grant has been around since the mid 1990's I think. Any GA high school student who maintains a 3.0 (I recall) average gets their tuition paid in any GA accredited college. But you must maintain a 3.0 average in college, but if you fall below that and bring it up then the state will pay for the next quarter. It is funded by the lottery.

Other than me winning the lottery (like that will ever happen), that looks like a good use for the money.

but how many of them Granters are majoring in Financial Aide?
Knew a guy that switched majors 4 times, then after 9 years of not working for a living, he left with a Communications Degree. I knew a different guy that was the only person at Cal State Chico to be grandfathered exempt from a 10 year old state required MathTest.
I left 3 years of MechEngr (yes, a fun 4.5 years- learned to Homebrew) to get a job as an IT guy, later working IT in Hayward & SanJose.
College =/ $
and
$ =/
but
poor invites
If you cant afford college, there is an organization that will help you with that. They have this thing called the GI Bill.

The granter is the State of Georgia. I think you are talking about grantor's. I know that you have to take a minimim amount of hours without withdrawing from the courses to get the grant. Not sure about the number of years. But since you do not live in GA, why should you care?

To kind of steer back to the original discussion. Perhaps we should be glad that these folks who have a biased view of the AMA at least know it exists. This is considering that some 299+ million USA persons have never heard of the AMA.
