whoah... hey now...
Lets not get into quoting STL

Like I said, it does me no good to Block him it you guys run around quoting him left & right.

LCS: It is apparent that you do not read your posts but you do not read other's posts as well.
Hey, lets make that
I dont read his posts, and others shouldnt as well.
Wait, didn't you just join the AMA? Did I or anyone else say anything about your status while you *****ed and moaned about the AMA for the longest time? No, because THIS IS NOT THE AMA's FORUM, this is RCU's forum.

And you guys find me any posts about me whining about the AMA, I dare you to find 1.

I'll sign back up to the AMA when I'm darn well ready to do so and I really don't care what you current members say. I'll continue to post as much as I flipping want.

You really make your organization shine.

You do complain…don’t you? Heck, if you don’t like AMA do us a favor and just resign.
Ahem.....Littlecrankshaft...You can't resign from an organization to which you don't belong. Dion is not a member of the AMA.

oops...I thought for sure he must be...he p&ms enough to be...

No one is perfect.
No organization is perfect.
No government is perfect.
Nothing is perfect.

We can only strive to be as best as we can be.
Also if anything is provided to you like food, housing, or money from the government without you working for it, does that kinda sound like Socialism to you? Kinda sounds like a country I know. I would hate to have anything provided to me because that would make me lazy and a Socialist. I do realize that we are talking about AMA but it is the principle of it and besides don't they just provide insurance? Does your auto insurance company provide you with a car or the same with home insurance? If so please tell me who your provider is.
Now where is my Social Security Check at?

Ok in this thread;

The only part of the AMA I don't like(P&Ming) is the current EC less DM

There are many more examples of you being critical of AMA's leadership… err...and it’s membership, this one was just handy Your credibility is double digit negative numbers now! Keep posting and digging.

Thanks STL, Thanks

That's it? That's all you got? I said I don't like the current EC less DM, that is my opinion and I'm entitled to it. Perhaps one of the reasons I did not sign up this year.

But you make it sound like I whine about the AMA and it's crystal clear that I support the AMA to it's fullest. I support all their efforts, but I can be critical of their leadership because it's well deserved.

I don't whine about how much the AMA does nothing, because I know they do a lot. I don't whine and cry about the magazine, because frankly I get them for free, so I don't have to whine about it. The AMA is a great organization, it's the MEMBERS who are the problem and was VERY evident when they tried to propose the e-ticket. Something I would have jumped on in DROVES, because it was something that mad a lot of sense, that the AMA proposed and the members shot down.

There you go again...the members are the AMA. Hell, if the members didn't want the proposed e-ticket you should have accepted that without P&Ming at all but you keep on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on.

It should be noted that Dion is the only one allowed to criticize the AMA and it's leadership.

Well, if you disagree with Dion, you must be a stupid whiner. What we need is tens of thousands of Dion clones so he can vote in DROVES in an organization he doesn't even belong to.

Well, DION. Can you tell me what the AMA does that is so priceless? Hmmm? Why don't you show us that list of things that are performed by volunteers and the clubs again. I really like that one.

KidEpoxy, STLPilot, Littlecrankshaf, Ptulmer, you guys go on and on and on! Do you realize the rest of us think you are all very boring? You take over threads with your constant bickering! Can't you just email your rants back and forth between each other and leave the rest of us to adult conversation?

Join the crowd Mode One.You could have private messaged us that little rant also...

Bring some indisputable facts to the table and I and most others will accept them but if your intent is to voice an opinion…get ready…someone will usually counter it. That is the way it is. Bottom line is this forum is used to bounce ideas around and share actual news but all too often the pendulum swings too far one way or the other.

Bottom line…I have said it before…AMA is great organization but it isn’t without faults and there are things that I wish the AMA could/would accomplish. The apathy of the typical flag waving member is not going to secure the future for AMA much less the hobby. STL goes on and on… about leadership but leadership is only as good as those that follow. Actually, if STL decided not to join the AMA because he perceives the leadership is leading the members into box canyon, I can respect that and I also respect his right to post here and make valid points but when he talks in circles it makes my head swarm. I will call BS when people post double standards here as I see fit… publicly and privately.

I don’t view this forum as a place to blow one’s horn or belittle any aspect of the hobby but a place to discuss AMA as it actually is and how it might be with some change.

I am for some change.

I just reread post #1, and I cant see how the thread would go anywhere but where it has.
Just where was this thread suposed to go?

If anybody wanted to start a thread on... uh... Moving the PilotStations Closer To The Runway For 3D Pilots... well, go ahead. You can do that and just not look into the AMA Is Bad threads, Paintball threads, or 400'Alt Is-Not/Is-Too threads.

If we steal a thread from a topic like What Collor Should NoFly Lines Be Painted to NRA or EEA then you'd have a point. But in a Some People Are Selfish thread... well, you cant expect that to go anywhere productive.

edit:
I just looked at the amount of Interesting Threads we have in the AMA forum
In 2 pages of thread titles, we go back 2 and a half months: 9/4/2006
In over 2 months we only came up with 2 pages of threads.
In the 1/2A forum, 2 pages back is still in November: They have things to say & ask.

We just sit in the same threads & argue, but why would that stop you guys from starting Productive threads rather than fights. One gau posted a question if something was against the safety code, and we had to spend 5 pages to get a guy to admit his declaring it was a violation was wrong. It was 13 pages in and we still had a guy fighting the obvious answer to a 1 page thread: No, it isnt.

Should we just stop trying to get the correct info out if a wrong person drags it on for 2 pages?
"OK, Fine: Water is made of titanium, I would argue that it isnt, but we are at 2 pages & must stop."

Last evening I loaded up a few of my models and headed out. Little over a mile away from town I found a nice freshly cultivated field with a nice smooth dirt road that would make a nice strip. Flew most of my models including something I just threw together the other day. It was just some glued together fanfold with a gws 350 C motor gearbox assembly on a 2 cell li-po Flew pretty good. I am going to clean up the model a bit while I build another one.

I have been also cutting FF to make a tigermoth replica. It will be powered by a 400 eflite outrunner and a 3s lipo.

Oh I forgot, I do not count in the RC aircraft community because I do not spend days or months glueing toothpicks together to create a flying model.

No, you don't count in the R C Aircraft community because you have distanced yourself from it. You are a self imposed outcast. No one else has said that you don't belong. Only you have made that statement a self-fullfilling prophecy.

I find that funny because smeone in another thread stated something about true modelers are basically scratch stick builders. Not the same words but that is what his meaning was.

In a perfect AMA society there would be no discrimination between the foam flyers, wood flyers, electric flyers, parkflyers, arf flyers, rtf flyers etc.

The AMA would do something about members to remind them that these old scratchbuild wet powered only minds sets are nto the majority anymore and the future is smaller electric powered models along with ARF and RTF.

Humor is to one as he so finds it. It's good to laugh.

Bill said it straight. If one is outcast from this sport / hobby then that is because one wants to think that way. One has a right to . The rub comes when one attempts to impose his thoughts on others and/or blame others for his own position in life, especially when one chooses such position.
It happens however that is a human frailty so why let it bother you? It's just a fact of life. You are entitled to do as you wish. You will find it easier if you let others do the same.

No need to fault what discipline others prefer. The RC industry thrives on so many different people doing different things. That means the business people have the funds and ambitions to make available to me with those things I want. Hey that's a good thing!

If you think there is discrimination, you may be right especially in YOUR OWN MIND:
"The AMA would do something about members to remind them that these old scratchbuild wet powered only minds sets are nto the majority anymore and the future is smaller electric powered models along with ARF and RTF."
Maybe the AMA isn't as much of a dictator you think it should be. [:-] It isn't totally out to control our minds. Would you like it more if AMA said, "Rat you are wrong, so here is how you will THINK today. Tomorrow we will let you know tomorrow's thoughts."
Well, I didn't think so!!!

Likes, dislikes, phases, hot items, fads and such come and go like women's fashions. Some things stay pretty much the same with some minor deviations back and forth from year to year, like men's suits. There is plenty room for all.

Look how 3D hit the flying fields. Fast moving storm just 2 years ago, and now it barely exists in my main 130 member club and doesn't exist in another club I belong to, some 60 miles north. Except for one person, 3D in the big club has moved to guys flying those IMAC patterns and old time Pattern. One of our youngsters, the best 3D pilot I ever witnessed, won Intermediate Pattern last year's NATs and Advanced this year and he won ALL SIX ROUNDS. You go tell him he has no future in RC. You tell 'im, 'na me baby!

Come on Rat, quit feeling sorry for yourself and meet some common interests people. No need to be lonely in what is really the the best folks on the earth -- the world of MODELERS -- regardless of what they fly, and even HOW they fly as long as they give SAFETY a fair chance. You know something RAT, a couple of my best friends just loved the camaraderie and were excellent club workers, but never learned to fly RC.

Actually Rat, my opinion of you just went up a few notches.
Like it or not, you are the Modeler that the guy was talking about- you made a flying model from BlueFFF, which sounds like what many consider a ScratchBuilt (NoKit). You beat the RTF & Arf guys, and even pass up the Kitbuilders.... Some kits are Balsa, some are Fiberglass & Carbon... you scratched a plane, so what if your material was blue.

Bravo on the build- keep at it.

Not to take it any farther off topic but electric has come ALONG way in the last couple years and it is advancing quickly in leaps and bounds. Also take into the fact that the ever growing population is reducing the amount of area people can fly in which means fields are going to be getting smaller. This is why the PF segment is exploding in the last few years along with the exposion of these smaller PF sized arf models and RTF models.

My favorite material is foam of any sort. It is easy to work with and is light and durable. I use blue fan fold, along with the stryo foam type insulation. I pick it up at the local building centers. I use one of them small hot wire cutters from Micheals that uses D cell batteries along with an electric knife from my rough cutting then I sand it down with sand paper to finish the shape. I do the same thing with creating airfoil wings rather then just flat foam all the time. For covering I use colored packing tape. I bought a bunch of of different colors here a few months ago and it works great. You just have to besure to use the correct glue to coat the foam before hand. 3M 78 works good and does not melt the foam.

But for 20 dollars worth of foam I can build many different models.

sure my models might not fly 100 mph or even 50 mph but then when you consider the size of most of them then 15 mph is plenty fast.

Default RE: How To Make AMA Perfect

from Thread Starter Post:

OK, here's what AMA needs to do:

Buy me a flying field. Build it, maintain it, and operate it for me, near my house. Do not increase my dues to do this either.

Make sure nobody bothers me while I do whatever I want to do. I am safe and have good judgement and don't need anyone looking over my shoulder.

Publish a magazine that only carries articles that interest me.

Provide me with plenty of insurance that pays in all cases, without question, regardless of the facts of a case. Any claim I file will be righteous and it is an insult to me for anyone to question the facts of my claim.

Do not make any rules that interfere with my definition of fun. Rules on the other guys are OK, just leave me alone because I know what I am doing.

Tell the FAA to buzz off and allow me to fly my planes anywhere, anytime, and however I choose to. Make sure they publish rules telling full size to yield to my models. Those big planes have no business getting near me.

Make sure the FCC leaves me alone too. Just make them give me the parts of the radio spectrum that I want, for as long as I want them, for free. Make sure that I am the sole user in that part of the spectrum as well. Also make sure nobody can cause me interference at any time.

Create and maintain a website that does what I want it to do and is suited to me.

Pay me to replace my plane when I crash for any reason.

Charge me only $10 per year for these services.

I think if AMA could do these few simple little things then it would be nearly perfect.

Sorry, edited to add my "numbers" since everyone else is.
I think Mode One has a point, we should stay on the topic outlined in the OP
whatever that is

Yes RAT that is true. Those that associate with clubs already are well aware of such. Many club members do such as you do. That is what is great about a club. So many people doing their own artistic chores and therefore one does not have to learn so much by oneself. Some of my main club can fly a small electric for a while and then take up a big gasser or nice scale model. Some fly only electric. Some fly only gas. Some fly only glow, and a bunch fly anything that has a wing and something to pull/push it through the air. The same generality applies to most other clubs in the area. One club, Barnstormers just north of Houston, hosts sanctioned activities, Fun Fly, Big Bird, and the growing largest Electric Fly-In in the state.

If one wants a truly improved AMA, then one needs to participate in those local-area activities connected to AMA, and work from there. Learn about AMA structure and vote in some new blood, if for no other reason than just to demonstrate that it can be done.
AMA is about to have a new Executive Director take over at headquarters. If he is looking at molding a perfect AMA, he has a lot to be done. Your inputs and local area support could well be big items in determining his direction.

However since the thread-starter-post requirements will never happen, I suppose some think even a 51% "perfect" AMA is too much to hope for. I DON'T think it is too much to hope for and I think I have more experience -- much of it bad and disappointing -- in the AMA arena than anyone else posting here.
